From the initial email inquiring about availability to leaving this morning, my experience with The Establishment has been outstanding. Jim and Carole are brilliant hosts. From efficient and speedy responses to emails, a generous welcome, sage advice about "what to do" in and about Christchurch, assisting me with transport as well as fun engaging chats.
I wanted to spoil myself a fraction and the Establishment did not disappoint. Gorgeous, quiet room with extremely comfy bed, massive tv system with sky sports, hot showers and beautiful lounge and garden areas. Just first class.
The accommodation is conveniently located to the University of Canterbury and a short walk into Riccarton's restaurants and shopping. The airport and central Canterbury are with easy reach.
I can highly recommend the service and facilities .... So much so I write this review - sitting in Christchurch's airport - trying to figure out when I can return. Hopefully sooner rather later.

My husband and I ended the fantastic NZ portion of our honeymoon by staying at The Establishment for one night in December before flying to Fiji the next day. We booked this location because of the wonderful online reviews but it, surprisingly, transcended all expectations. The property and rooms are a creative delight and are equally stylish, comfortable and clean. The location is convenient for restaurants, shopping, and flights and Russell's breakfasts are divine, too. Every need was promptly taken care of during our stay with options for tranquility or conversation. It's all thanks to Russell and Jen. They are the most darling and attentive hosts and went out of their way to make sure that my husband and I had the best possible last night in New Zealand. Thank you, Russell and Jen, for gifting us with such fond Christchurch memories!

After a long trip from San Diego to Christchurch, we were very happy to arrive at the Establishment.
We were greeted by our hosts with a glass of great New Zealand wine, and help getting settled into our room.
The property is very small, I think only four rooms? Each room is well laid out, with modern bathrooms, very comfortable beds, and everything you need in the rooms. Some snacks, A Nespresso coffee maker, teas, plush bath robes etc...The grounds of the property are lovely, with a warm and relaxing sitting area outside with a fireplace. They serve beautiful appetizers and wine in the late afternoon. The breakfast served is excellent, fresh made coffee and omelets, with cereals and fruits and pastry laid out for guests as well.
This is a first class property, because the hosts, Russell and Jen go above and beyond to do anything for their guests, make dinner reservations, suggest day trips, etc.
I would suggest this to my friends without reservations, and will stay here again if we ever return. They have a property in Queenstown as well, after staying here, I would have booked there as well for sure. You should call the property directly to book and get the best rates and service for sure.

Having stayed in hotels only when I travel, I wasn't sure how I would deal with having to 'share' someones house. I was instantly a convert. Carol and Jim made us feel very welcome and relaxed. (Owners Jen & Russell where away)
The house design gives guests their own space and a feeling of being at home.
The quality inclusions and attention to detail is apparent throughout the whole house.
Breakfast and the afternoon canape's and where unbelievable. I felt as though I was in a six star resort with my own personal butlers.
I would highly recommend staying here and would not hesitate to stay here again when in Christchurch.

Après un long voyage depuis la France, nous avons trouvé ce petit coin de paradis avec Carole une hôtesse en Or. Une literie très confortable, une chambre au calme avec des produits de toilettes de très bonne qualité. Et un petit déjeuné à la carte qu'il faut absolument gouter, notamment l'omelette à la mode Kiwi!

Upon arrival at Christchurch, Jim was waiting for us and drove us to the hotel, where Carole warmely welcomed us. This place is a small (3 rooms) hotel, but it is outstanding in many ways. The rooms a fairly large. The hosts do everything to make your stay a great one. The Establishment is in walking distance to the city center. Make sure you have an omelette made by Carole!

We stayed at The Establishment after 10 days touring the South Island in a camper van. This was exactly what we needed before flying home!
On arrival we were greeted by Jen and Russell, the owners, and made to feel at home.
The room was beautifully appointed and very spacious and quiet.
We were served a brilliant cheese board and wine on the outside decking which hit the spot perfectly (plus cuddles with Millie the dog helped!)
My only regret was that our flight was too early the next morning for us to stay for breakfast. Oh well, next time...

We stayed at this bed and breakfast twice on our trip to New Zealand - both times as a stopping point on long journeys. The b and b is tucked away in a quiet area of Christchurch - some good restaurants nearby. The rooms, whilst relatively compact are superbly appointed with every item so well thought through. We stayed in two different rooms - one on the first floor and one on the ground floor - both of similar high quality with fabulous shower rooms and very luxurious. The house has a well appointed guest lounge and also a delightful city garden. For our first visit we went out to a local vietnamese restaurant that was recommended by our hosts. The second visit we settled down outside in front of the external fire and enjoyed wine and nibbles, provided by our fabulous hosts before they ordered a rtake out pizza for us. What an evening, relaxing infront of a fire with fellow guests, chatting and eating pizza. This is the stuff that memories are made of. Breakfast was great on both occassions. This is a place where you are so made to feel at home and thoroughly spoilt.

Best accomodation in Christchurch will stay again,excellent service and venue,very central to all activities in Christchurch. Excellent breakfast and very friendly hosts.No a lot of choice at this level of accomodation with a quiet and safe location.
