WOW! The Establishment completely exceeded all of our expectations.
We stayed in the Hinau Suite for 2 nights and I wish we could have stayed longer.
The rooms are modern but very comfortable and the amenities available are top-notch. We were made to feel extremely welcome by our hosts Carole and Jim and we actually felt a little spoilt by their level of attentiveness and friendliness. The pre-dinner canapes and drinks were lovely in the lounge room area, complemented by a lovely big heater and television to relax by.
The breakfast spread in the morning was also fantastic and we were lucky to have the beautiful omelettes cooked to order.
The location is also fantastic. The property is situated in a quiet residential area, approximately 10 minutes from the airport, 10 minutes from the city centre and in a good location for the supermarket and the Riccarton shopping centre.
The accommodation itself was truly remarkable, modern but very comfortable, we could have stayed here all week!
Thank you Carole and Jim for making our stay a truly enjoyable one, we are looking forward to our next stay already.

If you want the comfortable room of a 5 star hotel but the personal touches of a boutique style or b&b then this is the place for you. The bathrooms are very modern and exceptionally clean (and really well designed!!). Comfortable beds, with nice little touches like Fererro Rocher chocolates & bottled sparkling water. Breakfast is in the homes kitchen which is personal yes but also incredibly open and stylish. There is a huge array of breakfast options. We also shared pre dinner drinks and cheese/nibbles with Jim and Carole (the owners were away) who were very hospitable & good company. So much so we invited ourselves along to their dinner reservations at a local Vietnamese restaurant!! Used to 5 star accommodation which can be cold and isolating, our stay here was a lot more warm and friendly. We had local advice, maps, restaurant recommendations and it felt like a stay with friends. Very enjoyable!!

Property is very modern and beautifully decorated and gorgeous gardens. Our room was well appointed, with a nice bathroom, free wi-fi and coffee making facilities. The hosts were wonderful and cooked a great breakfast for us, and turned our car around over night so we didn't have to back out onto the busy road. The property is about a 45 minute walk from the Botanical Gardens/City Center.

I had an extremely unpleasant experience with this place and it is a real shame. The location and premises are lovely and the woman who welcomed us and showed us our rooms was ver friendly. I returned a little later with my daughter to change to go out for the evening. The driveway is quite narrow and there is limited parking. Because it is on a fairly busy road my daughter did not want to back out of the driveway (we have since discovered there is space to turn at the end of the drive but did not know this at the time). She started executing a ‘seven-point’ turn. I was out of the vehicle directing her to ensure she didn’t hit anything. The male owner came out and very rudely and aggressively asked “What the hell do you think you are doing”. He demanded that she back out and when she tried to explain he was extremely rude, asked me several times “where did you get this one from”. Even after I advised she was my daughter he called her a drunk or a space head (she was completely sober and very calm although determined). He eventually ended up backing the vehicle out but the nastiness, name calling and rudeness continued including him swearing at us and telling us to F-off! Remember in all this we are paying guests at his high-end establishment!
I was physically shaking by this stage but ended up collecting my bags and leaving. I have never experienced anything like this before.
If he had come out and nicely suggested that we back out and that there was space to turn rather than backing on to the road it would have all been so different. Even 36 hours later I am still extremely distressed by the incident.
I understand that there had been a recent bereavement in the family but that is no excuse to ever treat anyone like this and particularly not paying customers!
I definitely do not recommend anyone to stay here.

Unfortunately this incident could have been avoided, I agree! The vehicle that was involved in the a 'very near collision' was visiting and was quite appalled at what was taking place and consequences of what the result may have been. We offer valet parking for a reason, which was offered to your daughter on this occasion and quite firmly and aggressively denied.

We booked 2 rooms on Booking confirmed but received email from the hotel saying there is no vacancy available blaming Booking. Tried calling/emailing The Establishment hotel back but no communication and could not get through. Absolutely not acceptable as this was the same day as our reservation.
Found that the hotel is supposed to close the availability once reached and they did not do it.
Lucky Booking.com were very helpful and assisted us finding another accommodation last minute.
Would not recommend this place and would not deal with them again.

Hi Jana. We are a small boutique BnB with 3 rooms only. We are not a hotel. All of our providers are linked so when a room is booked, by rights as a guest you should be able to view this on the provider you are using. On the day of your request, we had one room available as per email I sent to you, that slept 2 guests, we however did not have 2 rooms available and unfortunately do not know the reason why Booking.com would be showing this . If we did have enough rooms to accommodate you all, we would have gladly accepted your booking. The Establishment is a bed and breakfast premises we are not always in the office all day hence why we will have missed your calls to the landline, however there are 2 mobile phone numbers available online. The Establishment is very professional in every thing we do and very sorry for any inconvenience as mentioned in email sent on the day.

The Establishment is a highly priced B & B stuck out in the suburbs of Christchurch.
It has a pleasant backyard and a nice downstairs sitting area around a TV. Our fill-in hosts were satisfactorily friendly during our stay. We found our room to be on the small size but OK. Breakfast was OK, I had a nice enough omelette and coffee. The pastries were uninviting. Didn't live up to expectations.
We left the next day feeling a little underwhelmed. When my partner told me what the cost was I was dissatisfied, it was too pricey.
Would I stay here again? No.

We have chosen the establishment due to the overall positive ratings and feedback provided, so our expectations were high. With the positioning of the Establishment as a Boutique Luxury Accommodation we had clear expectations which have not been fulfilled. Of course the establishment is a stylish place with several good quality service, but we did not consider the value for money as reasonable.
If you position yourself in the luxury segment you need to provide more than the rest which we did not feel.
The Hinau suite looks on the picture much more luxury and spacious as it is in reality. In addition the cleanliness was not perfect, the television in the room did not work.
Breakfast was ok but nothing special than a omelette with cheese, tomatoes etc. was served.
The accommodation is not located in the city center so a own car is a must.
Reading through the other ratings it seems that the owners of the establishment contribute much to the value of the establishment. We had not the pleasure meeting them, instead friends of them hosted the accommodation. They were eager to do their best.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us. I asked Carole and Jim to give me some feed back on your comments. Carole and Jim are our professional minders and are much respected as many reviews have stated. Carole remembered you clearly, and thought that you had really enjoyed your stay with us.... Carole said that she had done your personal washing and line-dried & folded it as requested by you and Jim had delivered you to your campervan the next day. This simply demonstrates the level of service they deliver to our guests. Our breakfasts usually get a lot of positive feedback, we are sorry that our offerings were not to your tastes.... All our suites are approximately 32 square meters as stated in all our advertising material and include King bed and a writing desk together with luggage management and generous bathroom facilities. Also stated is that we are situated in the suburb of Fendalton (Not the City) and only a few minutes to the city centre and the airport and other key areas of Christchurch. Cleanliness is very important to us and I agree it does need to be perfect, Carole would have attended to any concern you pointed out, had she been made aware.. The TV not working was a simple case of changing the remote batteries which Jim did for you. We do try very hard to make all stays with us an enjoyable experience and I think that we achieve this for our guests ...

When we walked into The Establishment Jen's daughter was sitting at the breakfast counter eating snacks and playing with the dog, it felt like we had walked into a strangers house.
Our room had everything we needed but was very much a bedroom and much smaller in reality than what it looked like in images. There were loads of family photos outside our door which again felt quite strange.
We went out at night for a dinner and before we left had asked how we should enter the premises if we were late to come home, Jen suggested that they would leave the door unlocked which we thought was a bit strange but off we went. We returned from dinner at 11.30 only to see the door was locked. We had to ring the door bell and Russell had to answer the door in his dressing gown. It was quite awkward and odd for an establishment charging $300+!!!
I thought perhaps we were not thorough enough in our research but I think the positioning on their website is misleading and it should be called a homestay or at least a bed and breakfast. It didn't feel like a professional experience despite the surroundings.

Hello and thank you for your review... We have taken note of your comments and feel disappointed that we did not deliver on what you had expected or wanted. We are a boutique accommodation, bed and breakfast and all our listing material does say this. With regards to the door being locked, that situation was well out of our control and was a deeply embarrassed guest staying in another suite who thought they should lock the door on their return from dinner. We do strive to be professional, friendly and give everyone one a relaxing stay.

Booked after seeing a review from food and travel blogger "Not quite Nigella".
Had almost booked the George Hotel but after confirming The Establishment could accept us as well as our 8 month old daughter as long as we bought a travel cot, I locked it in.
We were greeted by Carole and Jim as Jen and Russell were on leave.
Such kind friendly people and we felt instantly reassured we were 'home'.
The Totara ground floor room was well appointed and had lots of quality extras including a plentiful supply of Antipodean still and sparkling waters, exotic silk bag teas, Nespresso coffee and chocolates/biscuits.
The heated towel rack was so effective and the linen was high thread.
We shared ample glasses of good quality wine and imported beer with other guests at 'canapés' and here's the best bit.
We were so tired with the trip and the baby that it was too late to get some food. Carole without prompt, offered half of their grilled chicken with some simple salad and baguette and left it arranged for us to eat when we had Alessandra asleep. Such a life saver!!!
Breakfast was perfection and helping heat some baby food was no problem for the 2 sets of hosts.
We watched the All Blacks shut out the Boks whilst sipping on some Pinot after Carole had helped us book a table at a local restaurant and given the VIP card.
Alessandra loved Milly the Labradoodle and we took some great photos in the garden.
We learnt a lot about the superb kitchen that Russell had created and took down some tips for when we upgrade ours.
Quite simply, these hosts make the great accommodation and are consummate professionals yet effortlessly make you seem like friends even though we just met.
Hopefully we will stay at their accommodation in Queenstown when we are there and Russell said he would take care of us and gave his card.
We have no doubt he is a man of his word and his attention to detail is plain to see.
Thoroughly recommended and you will not be disappointed.

Spent 3 nights in the Establishment. This is an upmarket B&B managed by Jen & Russell Webley. You can spent many words on this or simply say that it was fantastic. Well, a few words then.
Jen and Russel are lovely people. Very helpful and friendly (could be family). They go all the way for their guests.
After having settled, we were invited to have a very nice cheese platter and a glass of wine on the terrace. Just gorgeous
They gave us some good advise on where to have dinner in the city. Breakfast was just fantastic. Never skip Russell’s omelet!
The rooms -though not very large- are very comfortable with a very well equiped bathroom. The room we had, had a small terrace with table and two chairs.
In all, this is a place we would warmly recommend.
