Having not visited Christchurch for a few years, and being without a car this time, we wanted good accommodation right in the central city. The Classic Villa really delivered on both counts. Just across the road from the Arts Centre, it is only a minute’s walk from the Botanic Gardens and the Avon, and about 5 minutes to the centre of town. The room is beautifully furnished, reflecting the heritage nature of the building. It’s quiet with a comfortable bed, and it has good guest facilities in the rest of the house. Costa made us feel most welcome, and provided some great stories over breakfast. We will certainly stay again next time.
The Classic Villa is in the perfect location for exploring central Christchurch on foot, with the Botantic Gardens, Museum, Art Gallery and Art Centre right on your doorstep. The villa is full of authentic charm and our room was well appointed. What made our 3-night stay particularly special was the warm welcome we received from our hosts, Costa and Despina, who were happy to share their knowledge of the locality, recommending some excellent restaurants and attractions. We'll be sure to return the next time we're in Christchurch!
My husband and I had a lovely staycation at The Villa, Costa and Despina are great hosts and we loved our chat over breakfast the next morning. My husband also left his phone behind and they made sure they located it and it was left somewhere easily accessible for him to collect the next day.
Beautifully restored and decorated villa in the heart of ChCh. Wood and light fixtures and cut glass - even the door knobs give the feel of old ChCh. Welcoming owners made check in a breeze. Cozy gas fireplace, robes and slippers were good for winter. Breakfast was muesli and fruit, juice, fresh bread and croissants in a communal dining room - perfect way to start our day. Romantic getaway.
We recently had a two week stay at The Classic Villa, transitioning from Australia to New Zealand. This stay exceeded our expectations due mainly to the warm and welcoming hosts who looked after us well and went above and beyond for us. We enjoyed the communal breakfast and lounge areas which offered an opportunity to relax or engage with other guests. Our room was comfortable and warm and surprisingly quiet. The location was excellent and walking distance to many places. Highly recommend and much nicer than a sterile motel or hotel room.
Beautiful villa in the city, not only a great location but staying here is more than a home away from home as you feel quite spoiled. Our room was very comfy, lovely big shower and gorgeous smelling toiletries. Breakfast and late night cups of tea included loads of interesting conversations, such a bonus. Thank you for having us!
This is a stunning property. It is elegant, charming classic restored heritage home. The rooms are quaint, comfortable and spotless. We spent two nights at this wonderful B&B and enjoyed it immensely. The location is perfectly located to all the tourist spots both cultural and gastronomic. Speaking of which the breakfast spreads could not be more healthy and complete with a large variety of breads, cheeses, cereals, fruits, juice coffee and tea. We just cannot recommend this wonderful accommodation more highly. thanks to the wonderful hosts Costa and Despina for making our stay simply exceptional!
Peace, tranquility and birdsong; elegant, well-appointed accommodations in a beautiful, sympathetically restored heritage home; outstanding hosting; generous guest facilities and an unbeatable central location (opposite the Arts Centre and a short walk from the Botanic Gardens and city squares, the River Avon, Bridge of Remembrance, Art Gallery, and the city’s restaurants, café and bar district,) make The Classic Villa a dazzling gem in Christchurch’s travel and tourism crown. We enjoyed every single minute of our stay at this elegant B & B, we were able to walk everywhere which we especially loved, and our warmly welcoming, generous, engaging and thoughtful Hosts: Costa & Despina went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We stayed in a more modern upstairs suite, and highly recommend, although the executive rooms downstairs were also beautiful and bursting with charm and character! The property’s stained glass was one of many stunning notable features, and the Guest Lounge where breakfast was served each day was fabulous for socialising and relaxing, with a range of beverages on offer, fresh fruit and other enjoyable light food options. Additional Comments: Breakfast is very good (there’s an option on a cooked breakfast with fee, though we recommend you arrange this with notice, if possible,) wifi was 100% reliable, there was a cosy and pleasant outdoor seating area, and on-site parking options (first in, first served.) Huge advantage: central, but oh so quiet! The location is all that’s needed to score The Classic Villa a 10/ 10, and yet there are so many more reasons to fall in love with this very special heritage haven! We can’t wait to return and recommend The Classic Villa without hesitation. Thank you Costa & Despina!…
Stayed for 2 nights in one of the front rooms was spacious and very comfortable. It is close to everything and easy walk to the city centre , Despina and Costa were the perfect host , nothing was a problem , Highly recommend, we will return. Thankyou Despina
I recently stayed 3 nights at The Classic Villa in Christchurch and was made to feel incredibly welcome by Peter and Jan, the hosts. My room was very cosy and comfortable and the included Mediterranean Breakfast was fresh, provided a wide variety and was plentiful - I particularly appreciated the great coffee! The ability to make use of the lounge and living area was an added bonus as my first day saw me having to complete a few hours of work that I hadn't managed to knock on the head before arriving in NZ so to be able to sit in the lounge for a few hours, working away and sipping on a coffee was really appreciated. I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Christchurch for either work or pleasure as the location is fabulous (recommend Cellar Door across the road in the Arts Centre which offered a very good menu along with curated wine flights and for those seeking workout facilities, the YMCA gym around the corner offers a 24 hour pass for $12NZD which I thought was great value as I was able to squeeze in 2 visits. …
