Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for three nights during a tour of NZ and the first thing that strikes you is the location Merivale which is very nice and fairly upmarket and totally new following the earthquake in 2011. The other thing is the Manor House which you can stay in which was built in the 1880s.
Around the manor are the separate apartments which have a great comfortable bed, great kitchen facilities and a bathroom with spa bath.
The owners were amazingly helpful pointing out things to do, areas to go and restaurants to visit even providing discount vouchers for one!!
This is close to a supermarket and 15-20 mins to the centre of Christchurch and it is well worth checking out if you are staying in the area.

Tough to beat the staff- Matt, Kate, and fill in guy....sorry I'm blanking on his name at the moment. Clean, comfortable, quiet, reasonable prices, but the staff of Kate and Matt really were fantastic! We were travelling with friends and everyone was very impressed with this booking and how friendly staff was from the moment we arrived. I had done the booking through Trip Advisor for our group so it was great that it turned out to be so good. Everyone found the rooms comfortable, and clean. Here is a specific example of how the staff goes above and beyond- My buddy and I were playing a game of cards outside on the side of the house when Matt comes by to ask if was okay for him to run a leaf blower on the front and opposite side of the house due to the noise it was going to make! I've never had someone who needed to do landscaping ask if it was okay for them to go to work...ever!! Kate was equally hospitable and helping us with things like suggestions on where to stop for a coffee on our way to Mt. Aoraki (Cook)- So glad we took her advice on that as well. From the fresh cream in the fridge for coffee, to chocolates on the night stand it was really a relaxing place to stay in Christchurch. Town is close enough to walk if your in the tourist mode (about 20 min), bus stop right in front of the place is you'd rather do that, or drive (5 min). Bikes were available to borrow as well. Friendly staff are what really make a difference and this is a place we'll stay if we can make it back to Christchurch.

I had the pleasure of a 2 week stay in the Manor. Room 210 was a stunning self contained room with immediate outside access. The room was exceptionally clean, well maintained and well stocked. All staff wore facemasks, there is ample hand sanitiser and all other precautions were taken to ensure guests remained Covid-19 free! Matt, Kate and the team went above and beyond to ensure that we were wll looked after and havde evrything we needed. The Manor is well situated in the heart of Merivale, walking distance to one of Christchurch's nicest cafe strips, and extremely close to the centre of town. There is plenty for the whole family, with bikes, basketball, games, a TV lounge and lovely kitchen. Despite only living around the corner, I'll definitely come and stay again. Thanks for the incredible hospitality - 2 weeks flew by! Thanks team

Whether staying for a short while, or a long stay as I was in managed isolation prior to Antarctic travel, this hotel is a pleasure to stay in. Our group stayed in the Manor house part of the complex and it has been beautifully restored. The rooms are luxurious, well furnished, air conditioned, have small kitchenettes perfect for to odd little extra meal preparation and the bathrooms are beautifully appointed.
The rooms and facilities are fantastic but what really makes a stay here special are the hosts and their superb staff. There is nothing they won't do to make your stay here memorable. Thanks Kate and Matt.

I had the privilege of an extended stay at the Manor, as a precautionary isolation prior to deploying down to Antarctica. I don't think anyone wants to spend 2 weeks straight in a hotel but the Manor is the place to do it. The rooms are great, and even the more 'basic' rooms are extremely comfortable. The managers, Matt and Kate, are amazing. They were truly accommodating, and went out of their way to make sure the couple of weeks in a hotel felt as homely as possible.
I would highly recommend the manor to anyone, but especially corporate clients who want somewhere comfortable to stay but also appreciate a short chat and some advice on the great local spots.

Merivale Manor stands out. Along with their superb team, Matt and Kate have gone over and above to make our stay not just incredibly comfortable, but a memorable experience.
The rooms are quiet, immaculately kept and close to the city centre without being ‘too busy.’
Isolating here prior to deploying to Antarctica has been a real pleasure, and that comes down to the hard work of the team at Merivale Manor. Thank you!

We stayed at the Merivale Manor for three nights. The Manor itself is a beautiful old building and some modern rooms out of the main building. We stayed in the "Peacock Suite" in the old house, which had a nice living area and a separate bedroom. The room was very nice, quiet and well equipped as was the bathroom. The Merivale Manor is very well located - on a mains street, but too noisy in Merivale, a nice neighborhood - almost a little village. It's only a 20 minute walk from the center of Christchurch and a very short walk to a big super market and plenty of stores and restaurants. The owners were very helpful with information. Our only complaint was that they charged us an extra %3 per cent for paying with a foreign credit card. Later I saw that there was a mention of a small fee (no numbers), but I would have appreciated their mentioning this when we checked in. Also, they said that this fee was customary in NZ, but so far it was the only time we were charged such a fee. If you stay there, pay in cash.

As a frequent traveller, this is my number 1 "go to" hotel in Christchurch. The location is fantastic, with great parking and a bus stop just outside the entrance. I have stayed in a number of different rooms over the years and they are always immaculate with great attention to detail. The linens are crisp and of good quality, the beds extremely comfortable & the bathrooms are well appointed with quality fittings. The kitchenette has good quality appliances and is well equipped with everything you could need. Wayne and Karen are superb hosts who take great pride in what they do & I always look forward to my next visit.

We stayed 3 nights and we're lucky enough to experience the Wepu suite on the final evening which topped off a great stay. Rooms were very clean and tidy. The location was great to Merivale shops, Christchurch CBD, and was a short walk to a local park for kids. The facilities were great having 2 kids and a baby, kids slept very well as there was little street noise, and was nice warm and snug for them. Hosts Kate and Mat are amazing, friendly, very accommodating, and have fantastic customer service. Would highly recommended a stat at Marivale Manor.

This was our first stop in New Zealand. We were 3 couples that stayed in the spa units. The rooms were very nice & quite. The great location makes it an easy walk to a grocery store & Bridget's for breakfast. It was an easy ubor to get downstairs. The couple Kate & Matt that run the boutique hotel were very helpful in giving us advice on where to eat, wine & made reservations for dinner. They set the bar high for the rest of our trip. We highly recommend.

Hi there,
Every room at the Manor has a small fridge as explained by our other guests. If you require freezer space specifically, we can provide that for you - but this won't be in your actual room. The Merivale Apartments however, have a full size fridge/freezer - if you were looking for more space for up to six people.
Wayne - Owner
Hello, We supply a light continental starter for breakfast which includes bread for the toaster in your room (spreads in your fridge). There are small boxes of cereal in your room and we supply fresh milk daily at reception for that and your tea and coffee (also in your room) The bread has aGF variety as well as brown and white. Regards Brian
Yes. However it is essentially continental and consisted of some very good homestyle bread for toast, butter, jam and coffee and milk. I am not sure but there may have been some fruit. The coffee was powdered with a counter electric water boiler and fresh whole milk. We were there only briefly because of the travel problems we encountered (6 hours sleep after 37 hours of travel) so it is a little bit of a blur. I definitely remember the bread being homestyle with lots of grains and delicious. The place it self is excellent. Good luck.
Hi, Yes we provide parking for our quests. Thank you for the enquiry.
HI there
