Very old hotel. Looks like an eyesore from the outside & doesn't get better. When we booked we thought we had a bathroom but it was a shared one. $40 per night more to get a bathroom. Puts the price up but couldn't get refund due to booking online. Food expensive for what you get. Would not recommend this dive.

Booked this last room available in christchurch. Was going to sleep in car- should have
Would have understood if it was 20 a night but with kids and no other choice bit the bullet.
The place has potential but needs major improvements. Shower handle falling off, dirty carpet.

As soon as I arrived in my car outside, I knew I'd made a terrible mistake.

Parking is inconveniently out the back in a truckers yard, beside a dodgy bottle shop, with alcoholic types coming and going. No alternative entrance from the car park.

The lady on reception gave me the oddest look when I entered, I got a feeling that something was wrong, something quite strange behind her eyes. Manner of service was excruciatingly slow, they obviously struggle a bit with tech more advanced than a mechanical typewriter...

The "free WiFi" consists of a 250mb password slip that you can only access in seedy common areas close to the lobby, which didn't seem to work anyway, but I gave up quickly, so it might, I assume at near dial-up speed...

My room was right at the end of a long hallway, past a small room containing a family with a cat that had their belongings strewn everywhere, spilling out between the open doors to their room and their shared bathroom, on the opposite side of the hallway...

The room was something else, my first thought was "junkie den from a slasher film", the decor straight from the 1970s, ancient worn out furniture awkwardly lining the tatty space. My dark impressions were cemented looking out the insecure doors and windows to the creepy garden, it was like I had entered the set from a horror movie ( think "the shining").

And I think this was actually their "luxury suite".

Maybe it would inspire certain people...

I was exhausted, and set about trying to get some sleep. Didn't happen. Noises from the night life outside (consisting of the main road being used as a race track, and random drunks stalking the street) did nothing to stem my flowing paranoia, so by midnight I abandoned the creepy room with a shudder, drove off and slept in my car on the side of the road.

The accommodation at this hotel is terrible, stayed there for 2 nights plaster starting to come of ceiling, carpet thread bear in some place, curtains did not meet in fact I had to tie then together but unfortunately that left the ends open so light came in anyway and they have not seen a clean for many years. Bedspread had holes in it and the place just felt unclean. The rooms are many many years overdue for a make over. The good thing about the place is the restaurant staff are very good and the chef can produce good meals. the same cannot be said for the old lady on reception tried my hardest to get her to smile with no success and she wont reply to a good morning.

Rooms here are way overpriced and very outdated, Was disgusted with what I paid for, I have stayed at other motels which now seem to be luxury accommodation compared to this at the same price. There was a few of us that had booked in for a nights stay, all disgusted.... The lady on the reception desk was rude when other people were complaining and was quite the gossip. The only saving grace of this place was the AWESOME service from the lady on the bar that night....

The best thing about this hotel - the friendly staff. They were helpful and friendly - and the only reason I'm not rating this hotel as 1.

The rest - messy, dated and in desperate need of a do up. I would recommend for truckers - but not for people on holiday in Christchurch. I'm sure for the price we paid you could find something much nicer.

The room seemed fairly clean, except the ceiling in the room which in a patch was mouldy and paint peeling.

This place was grossly over priced, very run down and should more aptly be called "The Bronx". The owner should be ashamed of the state of the run down place. Appalling and would advise anyone to bypass. A backpackers would be far nicer than this!
