We were greeted by Marilyn on arrival. She was very friendly and the location was beautiful. The room was lovely, very cosy with a subtle smell of lavender which was pleasant, kitchenette had everything we needed and the bathroom was nice. The bed was very comfy and the whole place was clean and tidy. However I have stayed in luxury accommodation for less which is why I gave 4/5 I can’t think of anything that stood out to make it worth the $275 we paid for one night.

The lodge is situated just outside Tai Tapu (heading towards Little River) and offers several rooms away from the main house. Ours had a very large comfortable bed, a small but adequate kitchen and bathroom. The hosts were helpful and had left a nice continental breakfast in our kitchen, which comprised of bread for toast with lovely spreads, yoghurt, muesli and eggs (which we made into scrambled eggs). The property is surrounded by paddocks and garden and makes for a tranquil stay. There is a pub in Tai Tapu which does good pub food and up until about 4pm The Store offers good lunches.

When we eventually located Tai Tapu Lodge we found boutique accommodation in a quiet rural setting.
We had difficulty finding it as there is no obvious sign, you need to look for the mail box with the number 766, on the left of the road, as you leave the village going towards Akoroa, the drive is opposite. As this was not obvious on our directions we had asked for help at the village petrol station..they didn't know where the lodge was, and the hotel where they kindly Googled it for us which got us there.
The accommodation is in beautifully restored buildings but with a modern feel set in extensive gardens. We had booked the Guest Room with breakfast but had been upgraded to the 'Creamery' which meant we missed out on the king bed but gained kitchen facilities which were useful as Tai Tapu village or Lincoln..6 km away do not offer much in the way of dining opportunities. There is a large supermarket at Lincoln.
While the accommodation is beautiful we missed the little touches....no complimentary tea or coffee, OK it wasn't mentioned in the description, but you sort of expect it; only one small bathrobe instead of the bathrobes mentioned in the description; no towels set out..alright they were in a cupboard in the bathroom so we helped ourselves. I sort of got the feeling that we had been moved into the Creamery to give the owners rather than ourselves more space. We missed that King Bed and it was very windy during our first night and the building creaked and rattled.
As this was our last stop before the airport for our flight home we had been using up our New Zealand notes and had elected to pay by credit card when we booked. We were very surprised to be told on our arrival that we would have to pay in cash as their credit facility was not working. We were able to get cash in Lincoln but this could have been a problem.
All in all OK for a one or two night stop over but not for a longer stay as the immediate area does not offer many attractions. This does not compare with the facilities we have had for the same price in other places.

The Cadmores made a booking with www.booking.com in the late afternoon for arrival on the next day. Their booking was for the "Guest Room" which is clearly stated as a queen room with no tea / cooking facilities. Both the booking.com and tripadvisor have a clear map showing exactly where we are. The booking.com website is not explicit as the status of credit card acceptance (we cant change that...its just the site.) Where is says what cards are accepted...it just leaves a blank. However I did follow with our standard booking confirmation which states in bold "we do not accept credit cards" and again it provides a map and clear written instructions as to our location. We are a rural location and the road number and lodge name are clearly shown on the letterbox...in the location shown on all the maps. As with all our guests we like to upgrade where ever possible, so they had a $250 per night one bedroom suite with full cooking facilities...and a King bed rather than the Queen as booked Tea and plunger coffee is provided (we dont do instant...sorry) along with our natural meusli, jams and spreads and farm fresh eggs for breakfast. The Tai Tapu village (500m away) has a superb cafe open from 7.30 in the morning and the local pub has a great range of dining experiences as well as a complimentary shuttle both ways for those wishing to wash it down with some refreshments. Lincoln which is 5 km away (which is noted on booking.com and all our literature and website) offers a range of eating experiences. The Tai Tapu lodge is a restful location just 20min from the city, 50min from the reknown Banks Peninsula. Tai Tapu itself is well known for its walking and biking trails, vineyards, fishing and golf.

Nice location, met by host, Cosy rooms, comfortable bed, nice breakfast was provided in our room which we made ourselves.

Downside of our stay:
Would not say they are luxury suites for paying $275 per night nothing outstanding, have stayed in more luxury accommodation for less
The room next door guy smoking outside smoke smell drifting into our room and balcony had too sit inside with door closed on a hot summers day !!!!!

What a great find really lovely place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble and the owners were always there to look after you. Excellent accommodation with everything to hand even down to cooking and barbecuing if we wanted. A truly tranquil place to stay and unwind in New Zealand.

A bit away from Christchurch but to visit Akaroa a bit closer. So, if you are in for both places this is a great place to stay. Rooms made in a old barn with everything you can expect. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and a nice bathroom. What more do you expect?
Without doubt a great stay

We stayed there for two days and we enjoyed each minute there. It's a unique place designed by the owners who have a great sense for tastefully blending the old with the new. We stayed in a historical coach station. The lounge used to be the waiting room and you can see the writings from past passengers on the wooden walls.
Everything is so comfortable inside that we really felt like being home.
And by the way, it was absolutely clean and we didn't miss anything at all. Thank you for your warm-hearted welcome, Marilyn and and Daniel Meyering from Cermany

We had two nights in the Barn. Bed was very wobbly, sheets didn't look clean, towels like wooden planks, very rough. The breakfast consisted of a bowl of fresh eggs, bread, milk, honey and some squeezed tea bags in a jar. So no juices, no fruit, no yogurt. We had to buy that additionally in the supermarket in the next village.

Place was not clean (dead insects on windowpanes, dust everywhere, cob webs) and on top of that no fan or air conditioning although it was more than 30 degrees when we were there. Lots of musquitos during the night although we hadn't had the lights on with open windows. 'Didn't see owner anymore after our check in, very uninterested.

Looking out to a junkyard

Its pity you didn't enjoy the stay in our listed heritage coach stop. The property is a working farm of 12 acres and the buildings were sited there 140 years ago.....the barn / coach stop were always close to workshops. As architects, we have carefully inserted the suites into the existing heritage fabric. Your bed was a "king split" so had 8 legs!.....maybe it was just a bit softer than you are used to. All linen is laundered on the property so that your sheets are "sun kissed" to absorb the vitamin D. The complimentary breakfast always includes fruit (often seasonal from our own trees....which you can also pick yourself.) yoghurts, muesli, breads, jams and eggs. You also enjoyed the guest platter on your arrival with a selection of meats, cheeses, breads, pestos & chutneys and fresh greens. We engage regularly with our guests as we did with yourself, but we also respect your privacy, especially after the long flights from Europe. I have also had a private conversation with God to ensure that the natural habitat respect our guests!!

Tai Tapu Lodge was a great place to stay. The hosts were very helpful and the room was small but cosy with an ensuite containing everything a traveller needs. There was a little sunny porch with table and chairs to sit and enjoy the birds, the sunshine, the view. Very relaxing, highly recommended.

We were attending a function in the area and didn't want to drive back to Christchurch afterwards. The Tai Tapu Lodge was perfect! We had a wonderful one night stay, very picturesque, warm and welcoming. Our lovely hosts went out of their way to make us comfortable. They even dropped us of at the local Tai Tapu Hotel. We had a gorgeous sleep in and a very nice breakfast. We plan on staying for two nights next time as one night just wasn't enough to enjoy this beautiful place. Thank you for having us.
