Although the decor could be updated the location and helpfulness of the owner Angus made this a very good stay. He couldn't have been more obliging and no request was too much trouble!
The kitchen was well equipped and even had a washing machine. There was plunger coffee and hot chocolate available. Room was quiet but had easy access to the Internet. Angus recommended us an excellent restaurant and also gave us directions to local beaches. One thing that does need improving though is the quality of the towels. Thanks for your help Angus.

Spent two nights here each side of a Tranzalpine train trip with an overnight in Arthur's Pass. Room was spacious and clean, had a kitchenette where you can cook, and there was also a washing machine in the unit. Close to train station (5 mins in taxi) and about 15 mins to airport in a taxi.

Walking distance to eateries and a big service station that sells snacks and sundry items.

Everything was clean, and the owner was friendly and welcoming. I'd stay here again, good value at $115 per night.

My family of four stayed here for two nights. We stayed in a two bed unit (14) which was across the road from the main hotel .
The hotel is dated but the location to hagley park and the city was very convenient. Staff friendly, quiet rooms. Room had a bit of a funky smell tho. I would stay again but only if there was nothing else around In that price range .
You do get what u pay for.

9pm - I just rung to enquire about costs blah blah blah for Feb 2015 and the Old Fela replied, so what is on at that time? ME - its the Matatini Kapa Haka Nationals! O.F - Oh no we wont be taking bookings that early cause we dont know what our costs would be then, ME - The change of cost is not a worry lol! i just would like to book a room, O.F - Oh no we wont be doing that......ME, so when do u think u would be taking bookings? O.F - at least 6 months b4, ME - Truely! people would be looking at booking accommodation at least 1yr before, OF - well they wont be booking here he zed, thank you goodbye.... and he hung up on me. I was absolutely blown away from his rudeness remark. Matatini Committee have chosen to hold this wonderful talented event down CHCH so we people can help rebuild the city again, even thou our little Rotorua city donated 1 million dollars from our kapahaka fundraiser back in 2011 we would like to support again. All i wanted was to make a booking, cost dont bother me but finding a close accommodation withn walking distance to the venue for some off our Kaumatua ( Elderly ) does, what a dame shame cause one rude statement can be a huge loss to yr bussiness.

Received a warm welcome from the host upon arrival, the host also gave tips of where to go in christchurch as well as nice restaurants nearby. We went to the restaurant that night and enjoyed it thoroughly so thank you. Room was nice, had all the basics, and clean. Had a good stay.

Me and my friends stayed here for one night after new years. The rooms are very average, I wouldn't have had a major problem with the hotel if it wasn't for waking up in the monring covered in bites all over my body.
The other negative was that I had another guest knock on our door around 6pm saying to lock the doors as there were suspicious people coming in and looking around outside the rooms. (All windows and doors had stickers saying PLEASE LOCK ALL DOORS AND WINDOWS)

Rooms would have been okay if not for bed bugs but I would not stay there again.

We stayed here last night for Easter and although the room looked quite old and the washing machine wasn’t working, we thought it was going to be fine. The trouble is that while we were sleeping at night somebody broke in through the kitchen and took our wallets, backpacks and food we had in the fridge. Whoever broke in, went into our rooms and took our belongings deliberately while we were there. In the morning when we woke up and noticed what had happened we notified the police and the receptionist, and although she tried to help as much as possible, her manager and owner of the branch neglected us completely. We waited for several hours to be able to talk to the manager and she never replied. This is OUTRAGEOUS. We payed for a service, we thought it would be safe and there were people breaking in while we were sleeping! Nobody took responsibility for it. They said they didn’t have cameras and there was nothing they could do. But they were very eager to get us checked out ASAP and totally ignored us when the other guests were in the office. After waiting for 3 hours the manager, Amanda, texted the receptionist to let us know that they would talk to the insurance to see if they could refund what we spent for the room. She never called to apologise or ask how we were feeling or if we were ok. DO NOT STAY HERE. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Even taking away the fact that we were robbed, I cant believe there was a stranger in our rooms while we were sleeping going through all of our belongings, and the motel seems more than fine with it.

This place is an utter disgrace, rather have camped in hagley park or slept well n my car. A total horrible place. The room smelt like a cigarette room, VILE. It literally took your breath away, once you got passed that, the room smelt of mold and old mothballs, Ceiling light was a 3 lampshade style with only 1 lightbulb so room very dark, kitchen had NO lights at all. Decor needed updating ten years ago, smoke alam was missing (illegal?), no milk in room, the list just goes on. Unless you are totally desperate, don’t stay here..... book into backpackers

This place is dated and decor needs replacing.
Had to return to the office to get some milk that should have been provided.
The net curtains in the bedrooms only came down 3/4 of way down the window.
In the fridge I found some food from previous occupant that had expired 8 days before I found it.
The price quoted on the phone and the price paid on arrival was higher.
The standard of cleanliness is not what I would expect from a motel.
The only good thing about this place was they are pet friendly.
Staff exuded a very careless attitude
