Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We stranded in New Zealand during the lockdown and had to face quote a few difficulties because of the situation. We arrive after midnight that night and had great cimmunications with the owners. We booked originally a different Motel (same owners) and were upgraded with no extra costs to this great Motel which is equipped with everything you need, clean and modern.
During the 2 weeks we stayed there Ricky was amazing, totally on top of the pandemic, looking after us like a family and even got us onto some repatriation flights back home.
They made our stay in such uncertain tims enjoyable and relaxed.
The location is an easy walking distance to the city and we were able to walk in the not too far park and on the river. Unfortunately we couldn't travel so I am not sure but believe there are a lot of recreational points just a short drive away with the car. If you need to stay in Christchurch (it's also located only 20min from the airport) this Motel will welcome you with a warm heart.

Rikki was just awesome in hosting a hockey team at the Motor Lodge. She was proactive in making sure things like the laundry was easy to use & even borrowed a bar-b-que so we could have a team cookup. Nothing was too much trouble. All the units were tidy & the location was ideal for getting to the hockey turfs & to the city. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed with a group on a team tournament & Ricki was so helpful. One night we asked about having a team BBQ dinner. Ricki arranged to get big BBQ onsite from her sisters along with helping by provide big bowls for salads & other dishes. Nothing was a problem.

We visit Christchurch quite often but this was our first stay at this motel. Its on a main road going into the city and is a fair way for walking into the CBD. Cranford Street becomes Sherborne street as it gets closer to town before intersecting with Bealey Avenue.

Our unit was on the first floor at the rear of the property so we did not notice any traffic noise. It was a one bedroom unit but the king size bed was in the main lounge/kitchen/dining and two single beds were in the bedroom. This ended up being our overflow room for our suitcases. It would be a bit crowded for four people for an extended stay.
Everything was clean and comfortable; kitchen is kitted out for rustling up a simple meal
There is a great butcher shop Peter Timbs, around the corner on Edgeware Road that is worthy of a mention together with the Fresh Choice for stocking up.

Service is very friendly and helpful.

During our 19 day vacation to New Zealand, my family of 4 stayed in everything from hostels with shared baths to the high end Auckland Hyatt by the bay. The Sherborne Motor Lodge provided the best value and most gracious hosts of our entire trip. Rick insisted on helping with our luggage and gave great local advice. I had even considered changing our itinerary so we could spend another night but our plans were not flexible.

The Lodge was conveniently located and our 2 bedroom suite felt like a home. There was an extra bed in the living area which allowed our family to spread out. Each bed had electric blankets which was nice but of course the room was also was heated.

We stayed at the Sherbourne Motel for 5 nights in March 2020 as a base for a family reunion, and Rick & Ricki (the hosts) were very accommodating and were always a friendly face at reception, going out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and well serviced.

The hosts at the Sherbourne Motel also provided a fantastic tour around the local area, and very kindly offered a lift to the airport for our departure.

We hope to stay in touch and would have no hesitation in staying here again!

Remember a time when a business owner believed the customer was more than a business transaction? Where a business owner really cared about making sure their customers received quality service and a quality product and really wanted only the best for their customers? Pretty old fashioned, eh? Sounds like a time long past . . . But that's exactly what we experienced at the Sherborne Motor Lodge. Rick and Ricki are amazing! The most attentive, helpful, friendly and caring accommodation owners we have experienced in years.

And of course, the room was also spotless, comfortable, well appointed and excellent value. The service far exceeded our expectations.

Great location in Christchurch, easy walk to the CBD and local shops as well as, close to bus stops.

A most memorable and positive experience. Couldn't recommend more highly.

Thank you Rick and Ricki!

Patti and Jeff

Rickie could not have been more friendly and helpful. I had come to Christchurch for eye(both) operation, I could not have done it without her help from transport driving me to all my appointments and keeping me supplied with food and milk the whole 3 days I was in Christchurch. I could never thank her enough for all her care making it possible for me to survive. The motel was lovely bright and clean, loved the wetroom bathroom. Thank you very much Rickie.

Arriving in Christchurch with no real plans, I was immediately taken under the wing of Rick and Ricky. I ended up extending my stay in Christchurch because of how good they were to me. From airport transfers, to city drop offs, restaurant recommendations, travel recommendations and being the most decent, lovely, helpful people, I was touched by their kindness. I’m so grateful that my time in Christchurch was spent staying at the Sherborne because it started my love affair with New Zealand and the people in it. I have nothing but gratitude and compliments for Rick and Ricky and the Sherwood.

We stayed here for 3 nights and I have to agree with previous posts. Nothing was too much trouble to the owners. Before we booked we were shown what rooms were available and took our pick. Nothing was too much trouble the owner even went to the extend of getting a staff member to go upstairs and jump around while I stood in a unit below so I could see how noisy a downstairs unit might be.
Absolutely amazing service, units are clean quite and comfortable,.
Would I come back? Yes and we did a week later. Whenever I need a place in Christchurch this is where I will be coming. Highly recommended.

When we were there the owners dropped us off at the train station and to the airport to coincide with departures. Private car. Much appreciated.
