We stayed here overnight on a trip to Christchurch and we were the only people there! The building itself is very impressive and the room was warm, comfortable and quiet with no street noise. The shower was excellent too.

However, for what it was it was very overpriced. There are little things that make a big difference when the cost hits the $200 mark and Eliza's has lost their way a bit. Perhaps the owners are hands off or stuck overseas?

Our experience of similarity priced hotels has been that the coffee and tea facilities are luxury, interesting brands, coffee machines etc. Unfortunately Eliza's had the same generic brands that we got at our previous $100 night hotel.

We didn't watch the TV, and it was quite small, but honestly in a hotel like this there's no need for a TV in the room. Some interesting books or board games available in the guest lounge insteadwould have been great. Which leads me to the fact that the guest lounge and bar were shut almost as soon as we arrived (open to midnight according to the guest info). We didn't want to stop for a drink, but it was unwelcoming and not the standard we'd expect.

The decor is a bit haphazard and some of it wasn't in keeping with the era - Flatpack furniture in the bathroom. I'm not sure why Eliza's. A name of one of the previous owners would make more sense.

Other little things like the rubbish bins being left out the front, the need to repaint the building and the office having paperwork stuck in the window (first thing you see by the front door) gave the appearance of neglect and having lost their way. We wondered if it had been trained into a hostel. I'm sure the owners are very nice but it might be time for a new direction.

We wife and I decided to have a night away from our home in Rangiora so we could enjoy a drink and not have to worry about driving. We chose Elisa’s because it was quant and we knew of the building because of the published earthquake repairs.

The lady greeted us and showed us the room. Given that the room was called the ‘servants quarters’, I was concerned. The room is spacious and has everything you would expect...well almost everything.

The picture on the website of the room we booked showed a bath. No bath. One of the reasons we booked it. I went back downstairs to ask the lady where was the room with the bath that we booked. Rang the bell, but no one came so gave up.

There is a tv, aircon, coffee making facilities and comfy bed. Only 2 downsides were in the bathroom. There is zero place to put a toilet bag. There is a 1/4 round shelf thing but has all the supplies for the bathroom on it. Also there is no shower door or curtain and we had to mop up all the water that had sprayed into the bathroom. No a big deal, just a pain.

Breakfast was included and this included a cooked breakfast which was really good. Coffee was great to. On leaving, the lady wished us well for the rest of the day and said for us to enjoy the rest of our trip around NZ. We are locals. She hadn’t asked where we were from and I am assuming she just thought we were tourists. Not worth correcting her as her service was great. Nice place to stay.

This recently refurbished and modernised historic manor house is a true delight and hard to find in a bustling central city location. It oozes real charm and character with its many retained historical features and lovely calming ambiance throughout all of the public rooms. We stayed in the Eliza's room which is a large suite with stunning bay window and beautiful decor. Great amenities on offer and some lovely extra touches not usually found in the more contemporary establishments. We enjoyed some friendly, personalised hospitality from well-trained, interested and experienced international staff who clearly enjoy their work. The meal offerings are a true delight with quality fare in everything that we tried. Would highly recommend this place to the discerning client who prefers comfortable and interesting accommodation with privacy, high-quality meals available, and service delivered efficiently at a reasonable price.

This stay compared to the previous was appalling. After being hassled to pay upon arrival for which we were the only guests, we were then told they couldn’t do breakfast as it was too hard to get staff to come in and cook - YES REALLY! On the Tuesday we were woken at 4.30am by the rubbish truck emptying the garbage bins. When arriving back from business in the afternoon on the Monday, we were greeted with a grumpy person as to say where the he’ll are you going - I was so surprised I showed her the key to say and confirm we were guests. They won’t see us back a third time.

Because of the state of my wife’s health we were unable to take up a booking at Eliza’s Manor House that we had made to celebrate our Diamond Wedding anniversary. On the ‘off chance’, when I cancelled the booking, I asked Fran if she would consider creating a meal for us and delivering it to our home on the day.
Without hesitation Fran agreed to do this and she had her Chef create a 3 course meal which was delivered by one of her team, on time on the day! Not only that but she refused to charge us for the delivery and then also acknowledged our anniversary with a gift!
The main course was roast shoulder of lamb and it really was excellent, (tender and delicious), and of very generous quantity. The rest of repast was of the same excellent quality.
My wife and I were absolutely blown away by the kindness of Fran and her staff and the standard of the meal.
We have already put in our order for a Christmas dinner to be supplied in a similar manner although we insist on paying for the delivery and any other additional services, this time around.

We booked this hotel on 12 Dec 2020 through AA/ Expedia. We arrived on 4 Jan 2021, after a 4.5 hour drive from Dunedin to find the place covered in scaffolding. We checked in to be informed we would be ONLY GUESTS. The lady who met us said that they had stopped booking on the 14th Dec 2020. The dining room was closed. no Kitchen service. There were workmen in the place. She assured us that the workmen were instructed to keep away from the bedroom window for our privacy. But at 7.30AM the next day, there were workmen at the scaffolding by the bedroom window!

We had dinner at the city centre, and upon our return, it felt eerie to open the hotel front door to see everything quiet and closed up.
My wife peered out the bedroom window to see the entrance/courtyard was in complete darkness. Needless to say, she had a sleepless night in Eliza Manor.

Why were we not informed that the hotel was closing for renovation? Even at this point, all searches for this property does not indicate that it is being renovated. Could they have referred or transferred our booking to a nearby hotel?

At NZD179, the room was overpriced considering the circumstances. I could have booked a hotel room in the Christchurch CBD for that price.

Upon driving out of the property at about 8AM the next day, I saw that the "VACANCY" sign was lit. really?

very disappointing

Had a great afternoon at Eliza's Manor Hotel. High tea for my wifes birthday and family of 12. Tea and presentation was great, great setting, extremely helpful and cheery staff, so much food they offered to box the ones we couldn't manage to eat. The assistant manager was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this venue. Thank you

My husband and I stayed here for two nights during a road trip and wish we could have stayed longer! This house is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! They’ve done such a wonderful job preserving the history of the building while still making sure modern amenities are available for a comfortable stay. We hung out in the lounge both evenings for a delicious cocktail and cheese board before walking to the strip for dinner. We also got surprised one day when a staff member brought us some of the BEST baba ganoush we’ve ever had. We had breakfast here both mornings and LOVED the fresh juices and the eggs Benedict! Both were full of flavor and a perfect start to our days. On top of the delicious food, beautiful rooms and amazing location, the staff was so kind, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There was always someone available to answer questions, provide recommendations and just chat with! We learned so much about Christchurch and the South Island and loved getting to know the staff. Can’t wait to come back!

We spent two nights at Eliza's, a small hotel in the English country house style. Very nice room, spacious and with furnishings which match the style of the house as a whole. The room had the misfortune of facing the front of the house and thus being exposed to the traffic noise of a main road. Make sure you book a room to the side or back of the house. Very friendly and helpful staff. They have an elegant wood-lined dining room where we booked dinner for one of the evenings we were there. The food is on par with the fine surroundings and can be recommended. A pleasant breakfast is also taken in the dining room. If Eliza's has one minor disadvantage, it is the location (assuming you are planing to visit Christchurch on foot). While nothing is really far away in this city, it is nonetheless a bit of a hike to and from the center (especially when it's raining). Use the excellent city tramway to get around!

Hotel is about 15 minutes easy walk from the centre of Christchurch. Staff v welcoming (we so appreciated the spontaneous suggestion of a jug of iced water on a hot day) and the rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast was great -really loved the fresh juice. It’s an a la carte breakfast ( one choice from the menu) -we loved the Miro Benedict . We had the trust the chef evening meal -excellent food! We would highly recommend this hotel

Good morning Andrea We are about 11km away from New Brighton beach, (approximately 18km drive) and 8.7km (approximately 15 min drive) from Christchurch airport. We are a 3 minute walk from Victoria Street which has a very large selection of restaurants, cafe's and bars. On your arrival with us we will give you a list of our recommendations and a map with them marked on it. Food is a varying price depending what you choose. Most places have a good price range to cover all budgets. Kind regards Cathryn
