Taking a break from the demands of retail, I decided to book a 4-night stay at the Country Glen Motel Lodge on Bealey Avenue, and it was just what I needed for relaxation.
The location is incredibly convenient, with an easy airport bus connection (right by the International Lounge) and a short 25-minute walk to and from the Bus Exchange.
I’d read some reviews about the WiFi being spotty, but I had no issues during my stay. Like any home connection, the speed can depend on the number of devices connected, but my phone and Chromecast had absolutely no issues.
The water pressure for the shower is also incredible and works wonders on your back muscles.
The rooms were very tidy and the beds comfortable, with extra pillows and blankets in the wardrobe if needed.
My apartment included a dining table, chairs, a kitchenette, stove oven, cupboards, cutlery, plates, cooking utensils, an ironing board and iron, a toaster, a toasted sandwich maker, a microwave and fridge, two reclining chairs, a three-seater leather sofa, and a nicely sized TV – making it a perfect spot to relax after a day exploring the beautiful garden city.
Country Glen Motel Lodge is ideal for a night’s rest, a layover, business trip, or even a romantic getaway. It’s a charming and affordable place, and I couldn’t have been happier with my stay.

From check-in to checkout, I had two wonderful stays at Country Glen during my recent trip to NZ. The staff are very friendly, efficient and helpful. The one bedroom units are very comfortable and I especially loved having a reclining chair to sink into at the end of a busy day sightseeing. The location is great with public bus stops only a short walk away, including the most direct bus to the airport, route 29. I look forward to returning to Country Glen when in Christchurch.

Phenomenally lovely staff and crew at this Lodge - they were so nice! Rooms are very large and quite comfortable, though shower could have been larger. Kitchenette was great with loads of appropriate cooking tools, and the laundry was good too. The only bad thing was the internet, which was terrible the entire time. I went through so much data across my stay.

Spent 4 nights in school holidays. Really good value. Had a large unit with a well stocked kitchen so able to do our own meals quiet easily. The decor is dated but clean, and serviced daily which surprised us (in a good way!). Ask for units at the back so you don’t get so much road noise.

Our room was most clean and comfortable with everything one could need, including emergency toothbrushes and one of us needed one:-) Very kindly the manager had put the heating on in the room for our arrival. Location is great. Please don't be put off by exterior appearance which is quite bland - lots of grey gravel. Great value and certainly recommend.

My husband and myself stayed for 3 nights may 22nd to may 25th. We stayed in rm 17. Absolutely disgusting. There was mould on both sides of drapes, curtains ripped, shower curtain pink with mould, body fluids in mattress protectors, dirty carpets, chipped coffee mugs, everything was filthy. I would advise staying there.

We had an excellent 1 bed apartment type room with kitchenette it also had a living room with 2 recliners. wow unexpected. Would definitely stay again. Ask for room 11 on the corner. Bigger room than others

Great central place to stay with a full kitchen with everything you need including a toasted sandwich maker. Comfy beds, good heating and nice and roomy. The complimentary slippers were great too! Decor a little dated and carpet a bit stained but such a great price for what you get. Would stay again.

A nice stay but the rooms really need a refresh, carpets and furniture are all in need of replacement. Handy location to everything. The kind of place where you check the sheets to make sure they’re definitely clean.

Very tidy, clean room, spotless bathroom with fantastc shower pressure. Nice comfy lazy boy type chairs. Everything you need, always nice to have a fridge. Proprietor was very nice, location is great for CBD, good parking area, and quiet despite the location on busy Bealey Ave. Would happily stay again.
