This hotel has the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.
It is clean and well maintained. Glad I stayed here.
Breakfast has plenty of variety and very tasty.
The hotel is a little way out from the centre of the city but a bus route runs out the front.

This is a straightforward, average hotel in a fairly ordinary suburb of Christchurch, and quite a way from the centre. Apart from the lack of a safe in the room, it provides everything needed to achieve typical international standards, with two double beds in a large room, which is pleasant and comfortable. Options for an evening meal in the area were limited but the food in the hotel's bar and restaurant was good and not expensive. The staff were notable for their friendly and helpful attitude. Although unexciting, there was nothing to criticise and the hotel is very suitable for a night or two.

My wife and I were touring New Zealand, on a 15-day tour arranged through Travelmarvel by APT, and so all hotel arrangements were made in advance by them, meaning I have no idea of the cost of the room or how well the hotel communicates with customers making direct bookings. The booking was for one night only, as we were scheduled to take the TranzAlpine Express to Fox Glacier the following day, meaning we didn’t venture out of the hotel to check the surrounding area. However, our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and free wifi, but no air conditioning. The staff were all friendly and helpful, especially given the size of our tour group, who were all trying to check in at the same time, and the breakfast was very good.

What a shame! This trip started well. It looked a bit fancy and they price was as everyone else were.
What’s hidden?
The meals were crap in the restaurant, I was charged over $39 for a steak that had so much pepper (I didn’t ask for) all over it, the salad was wilted and one of the worst I’ve ever had. They tried to make the kids meals fancy but were not practical for kids.
The continental breakfast was good, however my scrambled eggs were cover in olive oil and both bacon and eggs had so much paprika on it - it became inedible.
I had a nice soy coffee though.
Room 309 has the worst tile edge that actually cut my sons foot. We all kicked our toes or feet on it over the two days and I had to ask for towels to cover it after my son was bleeding and scared to go in there.
The cleaner may have come on the second day as I noticed the rubbish gone but that was it. No service, no new cups to make a cup of tea, nothing. What a shame.
We will not be staying again, sorry team.

The hotel isn't bad but it's not great either.
The positive being that it's in a good location with easy access to most of the city. There are plenty of eating options near by. The receptionist was friendly and efficient and I was on my way to my room quickly. The main room itself was fine (except bathroom, more below). It was tired looking in places but the tv was good with a decent range of channels plus YouTube and Netflix (own account required) also the room offers a powerful AC unit kept it just how I like it. Pillows were comfortable and so was the mattress.
Now for the not so good.
My room, 204 had a fowl smell in the bathroom. I didn't notice it on check in and by the time I got back to my room I wasn't in a position to move rooms. It smelt like a dirty sewer, I suspect it may be coming from the floor drain, maybe it just needs a few litres of water out down it, maybe it's something more.... Either way, it was repulsive. Lucky by keeping the door closed and fan on it didn't come into the main room. Also in the bathroom, the tap was awfully loud. I was worried it would disturb other guests so I made sure to use it sparingly. Due to covid there was no compendium in the room (was a basic one on the tv) so I had no idea if the two bottles of water in the room were included or not, so I didn't touch them. Moving onto the breakfast, well it was not good, not by a long shot. I understand it's covid and the hotel buffet was no operating, which is fine. I personally prefer room service breakfast so I ordered it the night before over the phone (there was no door hook order card you usually would have). The breakfast it's self was terrible. I ordered a cooked breakfast with a juice, it wasn't hot to start with, it was ordered for 6.30 so I expected a piping hot fresh breakfast. Also the wilted spinach made the plate wet which got soaked up with the toast (more like warm bread) and there was plenty of grease on the plate. It wasn't nice to eat I ate what I could as I had not eaten since lunch the previous day, oh and the lid covering the plate was dirty (some kind of tomato sauce). This was a shame being cleaning should be at the highest standard at the moment. I would not recommend breakfast at all.
I told the receptionist about the smell on checkout and she assured me that it would be looked into. Hopefully 204 will be smell free for the next guests!
Would I stay again, no. The corridors and stairways are looking tired. It's time to refresh, what a great time to do it, when occupancy is low.

Unquestionably the best service we've had in a very long time. We were welcomed in as though we had been there before and always acknowledged. Fig restaurant has absolutely delicious meals and the service was beyond outstanding: quick, polite, knowledgeable and very happy to help. Thank you for an awesome little weekend to Christchurch.

Pleasant hotel where our room had been refurbished.
Usual buffet style breakfast
Friendly staff
Need a taxi/bus to get into the city centre which is a 10 min ride away. Airport a similar distance.
Nice outside sitting area for drinks
No safe in room so need to carry valuables around with you.

Traveled with Grand Pacific Tours and we did started in Christchurch-Quality Elms hotel. We did stayed two times there, first time on a ground floor and the rooms looking more like a 3 stars hotel. Seccond arrival we got on the first floor and there was totally diffrent.
In Christchurch, there is not much to see, even now after the earthquake, the cathedral is destroyed, also many buildings stil not recovered.
The city of Christchurch is the gate to start the visit of Southern island.

The hotel service was excellent. All of your customer service representatives were polite and professional. The room that I was given was nice, although I would have liked to have seen some more colour incorporated into the interior design. The room was modern and tidy, but the colour palette gave it a cold feeling. I could not believe that my bed did not have an electric blanket, especially because this hotel is located in Christchurch. Auckland hotel's can get away with not having them because it simply doesn't get cold enough, however Christchurch can be freezing at times. The buffet breakfast that I attended in the morning was absolutely fantastic. The variety and quality of the food presented was exceptional. This aspect of my stay is what would encourage me to stay again. Please get electric blankets, they are an absolute must have in the South Island.
Thanks, Emily Scanlan.

Easy to locate and park. Booking and check in was easy with very friendly front desk. For some reason our room diidn't have an air-con remote so I got one. Then I discovered no towels, so had to get some sent up.
Later discovered no toiletries or milk for the coffee / tea - didn't bother as had my own. Not sure if this is the normal standard of housekeeping or if we were just unlucky.
Sound seemed to carry between rooms a bit too easily BUT the big pluses - the bed was VERY comfortable, the room was dark, the shower was great and I got a good price!

Washington DC, District of Columbia8 contributions3 helpful votesWas it really walking distance to city center? how long does it take to walk?
eateries and even supermarkets.
Not sure, but there is a lot of accomodation around this area.
Rooms only have a small fridge but no freezer.
Hi, You will need to email the hotel direct. Each day, shuttle availability depends on needs. If they can't give you a shuttle they will call a taxi for you (around $20 from memory, only a 10-15min drive).
Hope that helps!
HI harms53,
Yes we do have this as an option.
