Christchurch is a long way from the Mediterranean - nevertheless, the opulence of an Italian High Renaissance Palazzo awaits you at the Heritage Christchurch. Designed by Joseph Clark Maddison and opened in 1913, the hotel is listed as a category one building on the Historic Places Trust Register, reflecting its status as a building of national significance. The hotel's grand design is fitting: after all, Christchurch is regarded as the Garden City, and is regarded internationally for its culture and refinement.

After traveling for 30+ hours and arriving at 1:30 am with a baby and toddler in tow, we were anxious to get checked-in, shower and lay down for the night. Even at the late/early hour, a staff member answered the door promptly, helped us with our luggage and quickly got us situated.
The Heritage is located in an old historic governmental building and has TONS of character! When we walked into suite 34 tired and ready to crash, we could not believe the size! Two bed rooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen, laundry - WOW! This was a perfect way to start our 18 day New Zealand adventure.
Located in the lobby there is a barber shop, in the basement is a nice fitness center and indoor lap pool, and the O.G.B. is the vibrant onsite bar & eatery. Centrally located in Christchurch, the Heritage exceeded our expectations - we would highly recommend a stay here!

The building is absolutely stunning , great location , fabulous bar . We had a 2 bedroom suite which was lovely however we were greatly disappointed with the customer service we received when there was a problem.
We were a party of 4 adults on the last night of a fabulous holiday , had a great evening at the bar and had to be up early for our flight.
After 3 people had quick showers there was no hot water left for the 4th person ! When contacting reception we were advised to go to the spa for a shower. Not acceptable !! We mentioned it again on check out and got no real response . We commented on a feedback form and the email response just stated it was an old building .
This is not an acceptable response , if you are aware there is not enough hot water for 4 people to shower then you must advise when customers book the room .
Such a shame there is this issue as otherwise the hotel was lovely . We were in suite 7 .

This hotel is located in a historic building in Christchurch and has been totally renovated. The rooms are huge and the hotel even has a very popular bar just outside the main entrance (hotel is separate and no noise filters back to the rooms). It was delightful.

Great location and hotel had lost of old time grandeur.
Beds were super comfortable and suite felt very luxurious and exceptionally clean.
Superb central location.
Listened to request and added 5 champagne flutes to room on arrival, which was a very thoughtful touch.
Advertised that as hiring the 3 bed suite that one person could have free parking. However, on arrival only option available was to pay $20 for valet parking. When questioning staff why this had changed , staff advised that $20 was only option. Nof apology that website is out if date or terms had changed since booking.
Not the best reception in small back room .
As there was no 'front desk' as a group we arrived and left at different times and there was no one to leave keys with or get keys back from easily.

We are having a fantastic stay at the heritage.
The check in was easy and friendly with good instructions and easy parking with our pre booked valet parking at $15 day.
The apartment is clean and comfortable though a little dated but in saying that it was in good condition very spacious and good facilities.
The bed is comfortable but the first night we found the foam pillows very uncomfortable so requested feather pillows in the morning which were promptly delivered and made for a great sleep for the rest of the stay.
The kitchen is well equipped for a full meal or just toast for breakfast there is everything you may need.
Very central spot walking distance to bars and restaurants. Would highly recommend.

This is one of my favourite places to stay. The Staff are great, the Rooms are huge and have everything you would want, even a washing machine and Dryer. The Hotel was built in 1906 and has great character and was built really well, as is still standing after the shocking earthwakes that christchurch has suffered over the years. The Barber shop was very accommodating for my partner and very well priced and the Bar O.G.B has the most amazing cocktails and friendly Bar Staff. Just a great place overall to stay and convienient for shopping and walking to the Casino. It will not dissapoint

Had a slightly poor start, as due to flight times we arrived at about 1am. I had previously checked and been told reception was 24 hours, but the door was locked and we had to make a call to be let in.
As was the style at the time corridors and rooms are very lofty, our curtains must have been 16 feet tall.
Our bed was on a mezzanine floor, which was fine except that we arrived in a heatwave and the hot air travelled upwards. The ceiling fan helped somewhat, but not enough for me.
The above are relatively minor gripes for what was a comfortable stay in the heart of Christchurch. The suites were large, and the food in the hotel bar was what I would classify as high class bar food.

The Heritage is a grand hotel in Christchurch with large rooms and a kitchen. The only issue for our group of three was that the bedrooms were upstairs and we did not want to carry our heavy suitcases up the stairs. It is a great location. You can catch the tram that gives you a city tour right outside the door and there are great restaurants nearby. I regret that we did not try the bar. It is supposed to be one of the best in the city

We chose this hotel because we were traveling with family and desired the two bedroom/living room/kitchen situation. The apartment delivered that but the windows are all sealed and it was very very stuffy. We love historic hotels, and hate to do this, but I would not recommend this hotel. We are convinced we caught colds while staying there as there is literally no air circulation. Seeing all of the other similar complaints, Heritage really needs to invest in this issue. It they do, the hotel is a winner. Otherwise, can't recommend unless you really want this layout. (ps. re layout, two bedrooms and one bath are up a narrow flight of stairs, one bath is on the first floor)

We chose the Heritage because they provided a suite with double rooms and it was centrally located.
The Heritage name was very apt. The hotel is located in the old government buildings - so the ambiance of the public is great with high ceilings, wide corridors, grand staircase and some interesting displays.
The rooms themselves were clean - but rather dated in their decor.
Room service was efficient and exactly what we wanted

Christchurch is okay but not a place to spend more than a few days. I agree with Darth check out Queenstown or Wanaka or even vineyard region on north island
The hotel has undercover parking, so very convenient.
