As if the other reviews haven't said it enough, my stay at Alexandra Court could not have been better. The hosts are incredibly warm and treated me like family. I am a fairly discerning traveler and thus I do not throw around compliments lightly. I have used tripadvisor extensively to find accomodations all over the world, and this is the very first time I have been compelled to acknowledge how great this place actually is via a review of my own. As long as Angie and her family are running this place, I will look no further than Alexandra Court for my subsequent trips to Christchurch and needless to say would highly recommend Alexandra Court to my friends and friends.

Had a great stay at the Alexandra Court Motel, accommodation very spacious, great washing facilities with outside drying if required which I like. Angie and Eugene couldn't do enough for us, even offered to drive us to pick up our hired car. Great location for walking to the centre of town.

Older looking on the outside but thoroughly renovated inside. Booked a studio room for two nights and were warmly welcomed. Plenty of space, everything worked, short drive to supermarket/fuel/takeaway and a 15 minute walk to the centre of the city - there is also a bus in. Though Colombo Street is the main street through the city, the motel is well away from the hustle - not much noise after dark, even though it is on a junction with a well-used side street.

Reception was friendly and helpful. For the same price as a standard, we were given a deluxe room on the phone (no early booking), so off to a good start from the beginning.

The rooms were the biggest we've experienced from our travel- 4 rooms in total; bedroom, kitchen, lounge and bathroom. Brochures and discounts for the Antarctic Centre and souvenir shops etc were placed above the heater in the lounge room, which was a nice touch and convenient. The kitchen was large and well-equipped (see pics). Bathroom was also very nice, with several recesses in the shower stall to hold toiletries. There's also a nice bathroom heater, but the problem is that it times out in 2-3 min, which makes it sort of useless. Also, the bathroom's sliding door doesn't close properly, leaving a ~5 cm gap, but there's another sliding door leading to the lounge that can be shut for more privacy. The lounge room is large and very comfortable. Only thing is that the TV is not the clearest, but OK. Pictures were too dark and the remote control is not as responsive as it could be. Other than these things, we had everything we needed from the room, including a hairdryer and ironing stuff.

The motel is a few streets away from the city centre- definitely walkable, but for those less/average fit, you do wonder "how much longer to go?" once or twice.
There's a small deli across the street, to the right of the motel, which seems convenient.

I can certainly understand why Alexandra Court is so highly rated- it's a motel, not a hotel, and should be rated accordingly. We didn't find the decor and equipment that outdated. Other than wishing that it was just a tad closer to the city centre, it is a superb place to stay.

This was the best place we stayed at in New Zealand. The staff was awesome. We weren't expecting it, but they even made the beds and cleaned the room each night we stayed. They also held our luggage for us on our final day after checkout so that we could venture into town. Great, great people.

This was a great value. We loved it. We especially loved the apartment setup. It was nice to have a full kitchen for our purposes... and a separate living room.

The only negatives would be that it's a fair walk into the town center from here. I guess, in a perfect world, it would be closer. But... it didn't bother us too much. Plus, the free bus stop is only a couple of blocks away. The other negative was that the small electric heater really had to work to keep us warm. Thank goodness the electric blankets were nice and warm. Also, the couches are a bit outdated.

If it sounds like I'm complaining, I'm not. I loved this place. I just don't want people to think they're walking into a Hilton.

Well-equipped, and heated (!) rooms, clean, spacious with very accommodating and kind service. (I was offered use of hosts' garage to store and charge my electric mobility scooter). Walking distance to downtown, shops and bus lines was as short as advertised.
We would definitely return, but we really didn't have a bad stay anywhere in the country!

We booked for 2 nights and stayed for 8! Although alittle outdated, the apartments were huge. We had a bedroom, sitting room, full kitchen and enormous bathroom with seperate shower, unbelievable value for money. Everything was spotlessly clean (and I am very fussy!). The location was fantastic for strolling into town.
I know I'm repeating what has already been said time and time again, but Angie absolutely went above and beyond. We were in town to source and purchase a van for travelling around the South Island. Angie made it her mission to find us that van.....and she did!! She also offered lifts to the supermarket, lent me her sewing machine, folded my washing from the line, and generally clucked over us as though we were her own children!! My husband had to pry me out of our room when it was time to leave.
I couldn't recommend it enough and, when it's been updated and refurbished, I may just decide to live there!

We stayed here for a couple of nights in April 2009. The motel is a quick 5 minute drive from downtown Christchurch. Check-in was smooth and the room was spacious. The property could use a bit of renovation and apart from a couple of minor issues (there was some water damage in the bathroom for example), our stay was very comfortable.
