The rooms were the biggest we've experienced from our travel- 4 rooms in total; bedroom, kitchen, lounge and bathroom. Brochures and discounts for the Antarctic Centre and souvenir shops etc were placed above the heater in the lounge room, which was a nice touch and convenient. The kitchen was large and well-equipped (see pics). Bathroom was also very nice, with several recesses in the shower stall to hold toiletries. There's also a nice bathroom heater, but the problem is that it times out in 2-3 min, which makes it sort of useless. Also, the bathroom's sliding door doesn't close properly, leaving a ~5 cm gap, but there's another sliding door leading to the lounge that can be shut for more privacy. The lounge room is large and very comfortable. Only thing is that the TV is not the clearest, but OK. Pictures were too dark and the remote control is not as responsive as it could be. Other than these things, we had everything we needed from the room, including a hairdryer and ironing stuff.
The motel is a few streets away from the city centre- definitely walkable, but for those less/average fit, you do wonder "how much longer to go?" once or twice.
There's a small deli across the street, to the right of the motel, which seems convenient.
I can certainly understand why Alexandra Court is so highly rated- it's a motel, not a hotel, and should be rated accordingly. We didn't find the decor and equipment that outdated. Other than wishing that it was just a tad closer to the city centre, it is a superb place to stay.
This was a great value. We loved it. We especially loved the apartment setup. It was nice to have a full kitchen for our purposes... and a separate living room.
The only negatives would be that it's a fair walk into the town center from here. I guess, in a perfect world, it would be closer. But... it didn't bother us too much. Plus, the free bus stop is only a couple of blocks away. The other negative was that the small electric heater really had to work to keep us warm. Thank goodness the electric blankets were nice and warm. Also, the couches are a bit outdated.
If it sounds like I'm complaining, I'm not. I loved this place. I just don't want people to think they're walking into a Hilton.
We would definitely return, but we really didn't have a bad stay anywhere in the country!
I know I'm repeating what has already been said time and time again, but Angie absolutely went above and beyond. We were in town to source and purchase a van for travelling around the South Island. Angie made it her mission to find us that van.....and she did!! She also offered lifts to the supermarket, lent me her sewing machine, folded my washing from the line, and generally clucked over us as though we were her own children!! My husband had to pry me out of our room when it was time to leave.
I couldn't recommend it enough and, when it's been updated and refurbished, I may just decide to live there!

It has a a living area, bedroom, kitchen and toilet.
It also comes with a bath tub.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
I will stay in the same motel if I re-visit the place.
