Stayed for 4 nights here, room was musty and cold and severely outdated however, the beds were very comfortable, the lady at reception was not very friendly but other than that it was an ok stay
Would recommend for maybe a 1-2 night stay.

during the long trip home from south of Dunedin to Hawkes Bay we booked a twin bed unit for myself & my 16yr old at the Econo Lodge in Christchurch through Fly Buys. It was easy to do and so convenient. The Owners were helpful and pointed us in the right direction, several times. There was almost no outside noise at all. I would recommend the Econo Lodge was a good basic motel with tidy comfy units away from the road.

Was connecting in Christchurch following Trans-Alpine Express and looking for existing accommodations. Booked Canterbury (cab ride from railstation) and glad we did! Good welcome, clean and decent sized room with well-equipped kitchenette. Could walk to nearby grocery store for dinner items. Sliding doors to small outside patio-lovely lady at reception.
In a city so devastated by earthquake, this was a very reasonable and safe choice!

Office is closed and nobody there to greet you on arrival. Unit was musty and cold.
No milk on arrival for a cuppa , there was a lot of units rented out on a permanent basis, hence the wheely bins were overflowing with rubbish. Outside light not working, hence tripping over when going outside in the dark. We did not shower in the morning as no hot water pressure. They are a disgrace to the "Choice" Franchise, and someone from Choice should come and inspect the property. Would certainly not recommend, nor stay here again. Had to put towel on floor in toilet as unit was leaking. Stains on carpet and hole in kitchen wall. Pipes leaking out back so could hear water running all night. Just put keys in dropbox on wall on exit as office not manned. Happy to send photos if needed.

I can handle old and tatty when I'm going cheap, but there's no excuse in the professional accommodation game for filthy. The whole unit was only just clean enough and the main couch was ripped, very uncomfortable and super dusty. Plus the hotel manager forgot to turn on the hot water so I had to leave without showering this morning.

Terrible. Reception was not available when we arrived at 8 pm and we had to phone a third party for them to arrive. They didn’t have our booking. No air conditioning as advertised, wifi wouldn’t connect, very, very retro. Lawns and gardens not done for ages. And bed bugs!

Doesn't look like this property is no longer maintained . No one at office anymore. Chairs in unit terribly stained, Glad we ordered food in as not enough plates etc in unit. Broken handles on cupboards,, broken spring on couch. Was cold and heaters didn't even work . Had to ring a number to get one that does. Bath towels stained. Lifting wallpaper, net curtain in the kids room badly ripped. Should not even have been up there. Reminds me of my younger days in a student flat lol
Wifi well that was terrible, Looks like now they are turning into a permanent resident motel. we paid about $178 for 4 of us. Might as well paid a bit extra to stay somewhere flash! I did lodge a complaint , but going by the terrible rating on here they have not done anything with this motel for a long time.

This was the last stop of our 9 days New Zealand trip and thanks to our last Hotel stay, we had a most wonderful trip ever. The rooms are as usual good with all amenities provided along with a clean and spacious bathroom. The location is good away from the city crowd.

Firstly, this is now Econo Lodge Canterbury Court. Same location, same red sign albeit with the slightly changed name.
Stayed here because it was within walking distance of the railway station - maybe up to 1.5km (about 0.9 miles), and because it was the cheapest option when redeeming points from a loyalty system in New Zealand called Fly Buys.
As it was the cheapest option and because "Econo" in the title I was expecting it to be quite small and basic. But what we got was a normal motel room, little kitchen area, reasonably sized bathroom (with everything stocked incl. shampoo, flannel), good selection of TV channels incl. 2 sports and 1 movies, even magazines to read. Overall much bigger, better condition, and more little things included than I ever expected.
Location was good for us. It's not the closest to the centre of town, but promixity to city centre isn't important in Christchurch now since the earthquakes. It's fairly close to CBS Canterbury Arena and the Addington horseracing track. Most rooms are well back from the road so it's very quiet.
A small supermarket is only about 100 meters away, with a McDonalds no more than a further 100m beyond that. Two service stations within easy walking distance. A bit further away but still walkable is an area with a couple of pubs/restaurants, and a couple of takeaway places e.g. pizza hut.
All in all this was a winner for us - much better than I imagined and even though we had no car we could still get to and from the nearby shops and the railway station easily enough.

We arrived very late at night and the courteous manager arranged access to the room for us. The room was fine, clean, tidy, heaters worked and comfortable beds. The taxi fare from the airport was more then I hoped ($42NZ) but for the price the motel was fine and the manager was very helpful.
