We stayed here as part of our "mini-moon" after getting married in Queenstown and traveling around the South for a week in an RV, and it was exactly what we needed!

They made our stay truly special by upgrading our room and providing some of the best service we've ever experienced.

The Room:
The room was huge! We had an amazing view towards the mountains and the bed was super comfortable, with the addition of being able to choose from a pillow menu for those who prefer a different type of pillow to the ones they provided. The mini-bar was included in our room and the bathroom was fantastic with great lighting, a rain shower and quality finishings. The only downside was that even on a cold day, the room was right in the afternoon sun and was pretty hot when we arrived, but a quick boost of the aircon made it comfortable.

The Service:
The check-in staff were incredible and explained their little iPad system to us, and also gave us a free cocktail voucher and unlimited barista coffees! Their cafe and restaurant is really nice and the staff there were great as well!

Overall:
Next time we're in Christchurch, we'll be making sure to stay here again!

A short ride from the Christchurch Airport ($45 NZ by Uber) The Mayfair is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at, we were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door. The rooms are like a home away from home and it is the little touches that make the Mayfair a cut above. The garbage cans are hidden in drawers so you don’t have to look at them, the TVs are large and were great for watching the World Cup. The bathrooms are what I want the bathroom in my next house to be a large well thought out shower, the tap is on the opposite wall from the shower head so you don’t have to play shake and bake until you get the temperature right. The hair dryer is a Dyson, I’d never used one before but can see what the fuss is about. The hair straightener you can borrow is a Dyson. They have an iPad in the room for scanning hotel services. One word of advice they have a motion activated night light in the bathroom (another clever idea) however if you leave the bathroom door open too much you can activate it by moving in bed. All in all an excellent place to stay.

We booked two nights at this new hotel through Luxury Escapes. The offer was for a room with late check out and breakfast included. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise being at the cafe attached to the hotel and you could order from their main menu. The food was excellent but the service in the cafe could be improved, there didn't seem to be anyone to organise the tables and who was needing to be served, its also open to the public so was very busy. The hotel decor is lovely, with a good size room and very good sized bathroom, with lovely toiletries, only let down was no underfloor heating in the fully tiled bathroom. I marked the sleep quality down as the electronic pad on the wall and also the phone lit up the room and we like dark plus I found the pillow too full so slept with my head on a bath towel instead, an option for a flatter pillow would have been nice. The service was excellent and very friendly. The location is on the outskirts of the CBD but pleasant enough to walk into restaurants and bars, about 15 minutes.

This is new hotel, so it is clean and tidy. The location is OK, but could be closer to the CBD. We had a car and the hotel parking charge was going to be quite high, so we found a nearby side street with no parking restrictions for the car. I took my special soap (for allergies) but the cleaner removed it when they cleaned the bathroom, leaving me with no soap - so keep yours hidden if you take your own! The pillows were also far to large for me, but the bed was comfortable.

Hi Ellie, Thank you for the review. Sorry to hear our Housekeepers accidently removed your soap, I will follow up with our Executive Housekeeper who will discuss this with the team. I can understand how frustrating this would have been. It's great to hear you found alternative parking nearby. We are fortunate to have multiple parking options for our guests. From Valet to self parking nearby or of course the free on street parking you found, there is something to suit all budgets. Due to guest feedback we have just completed a change over of our pillows. I am confident when you next return you will notice an improvement. Thanks again Ellie. Regards Rick General Manager

Room was cold
We were told where our room was, went up the lift, and found it but the temperature was only 16.8 degrees, very cold. We could not get heat pump to work, despite having one of our own, went back downstairs as could not find a number to ring reception.
He got heat pump going but we had to turn it off when we went to sleep as too noisy, then the room was cold again. Had to phone to see how to work the TV nothing was obvious. Had to put a towel over a bright light that said make up my room and do not disturb, so bright, other people have mentioned this as well. Could not get iPad to work, maybe instructions for reception, TV and heat pump were in there, to despite having my own iPad which I use all the time.. Flatter pillow would have been good, they were huge.
Good position, nice cafe and good coffee, great breakfast, very friendly staff.

We were in Christchurch for a few days visiting relatives and wanted to spend the last night in town to visits some bars/restaurants, we booked the Mayfair as it is reasonably Central. It is just around the corner to Victoria St with numerous eating and drinking options and a 15 minute walk to Oxford Tce which has the same over looking the Avon River.

Check in was good car parking was $20 park your own car in a car park across the road or $30 valet parking. An extra $10 for valet parking is well worth it especially as the next morning through a touch screen you could ask for your car 20 minutes before check out and it is waiting for you on check out.

Room was spacious clean and had all the amenities you would want including mini bar and the fore mentioned touch screen which had everything from room service to a local map on it.

The hotel had a restaurant come bar had a comprehensive lunch menu and a smaller platter based dinner menu, but there are plenty of good eating options close by.

It cost a bit to stay inner city but felt we got value for money at the Mayfair and would happily stay there again.

We stayed 4 nights at the Mayfair and by the end it still wasn’t enough. The unlimited Barista cafe at the Majestic where we had an amazing Spicy Dark Chocolate Mocha, the quality and value of the breakfast, the dine in room service with superior service and food quality and the most comfortable room with such an attention to all details made our stay unforgettable. We also used the free electric bikes which made our tour around the city so nice and comfortable. The staff is friendly and always available to help and suggest what to see, what to do and where to eat. And finally those amazing cocktails that Zack makes nearly custom to your taste were among the best we ever had.

Had a 3 day stay here over Labour Weekend 2022. The staff were just brilliant, always acknowledging your presence, and would often go far beyond than was expected. We did some shopping including some fresh peonies, housekeeping noticed as I passed them in the hall and offered a vase and scissors to trim the flower ends!! The young Zac at the Majestic Bar is a very talented mixologist who found depths to some cocktails that we would compare to some of the best had in Dubai and London - be sure to ask for him. The accommodation was tasteful and comfortable, only issue was some moments of weak WIFI but you get that in any part of the world. Thank you all for making our stay a well-earned 5 star. Kind regards, Yolanda and Lorenzo Job

Hi Lorenzo, What a great review - thank you for sharing. We pride ourselves on getting the small details right. So when I see comments like yours it makes me extremely proud to lead such a great team. I will be sure to pass on your kind words. I agree, Zac makes a great cocktail and is loved by many of our guests. He will be thrilled his cocktail abilities are being compared to those in top bars in Dubai and London. Apologies about the weak WIFI you encountered. We have super fast WIFI and good coverage so I will have our Maintenance Manager take a look in case it is a fault. Very clean, modern and bright hotel, we stayed here for only one night however I will definitely stay here again in returning to Christchurch. The rooms have a very modern decor along with the bathrooms, all feels very premium. Plenty of close street parking available which made it so much easier to access.

The rooms are a good size and modern. Mayfair King room had a large walk in shower and all the amenities expected of luxury hotel. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. One surprise is the room didn’t have a work desk. Found out some other King rooms did so business travellers might prefer to request a room with a work desk.

Reception is 24 hour but Housekeeping is only until 3pm. Had an issue with housekeeping not attending to our room despite the ‘make up my room’ light being on from well before 3. Travellers next door left at the same time and their room had been done. Compliments to the reception staff who sought to bring fresh towels and we didn’t have any other issues for the rest of our stay.

The hotel staff are warm and friendly. The hotel has one restaurant/bar which serves an all day breakfast menu (no breakfast buffet to fight others for, this is an extensive stylish menu) before turning into a cocktail bar in the evenings, serving share plates and 4 main course dinner options. Throughout the day you can get good coffees and hotel chocolates made with Belgian chocolate is a feature! The food and drinks was definitely a stand out and it is no surprise it is popular with hotel guests and locals. Tables are limited (I suggest it is more popular than even that anticipated!) and so recommend either booking or going at off-peak times.

Location is a 20 minute walk from the centre of Christchurch. There’s some other restaurants nearby but it is otherwise a quiet part of town so don’t worry about being woken by the sound of the early morning commuters.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel.
