Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely accommodation, modern facilities, very clean and great service. The only issue I have was with the bar. A large modern wine cooler, stacked with very expensive wine ( Penfolds Grange et al )but stored with the corks uppermost 😭. Someone needs sacking

Christchurch City Hotel is centrally located and within easy walking distance of all the attractions and many great bars and restaurants. The hotel itself is clean and functional but lacked some character. The roof top bar / restaurant is closed on a Monday and Tuesday and when we stayed her on a Wednesday we didn’t feel the urge to visit and preferred to go and explore the Oxford Terrace riverside bars/restaurants close by.

Great location in heart of shopping district with Riverside Markets 5 minutes away & The Crossing closeby as well however beware the homeless & beggars on the corner - the park bench is constantly occupied 24/7! There's no parking in front of the hotel & no parking valets so you need to find public parking buildings in Hereford St but you can purchase a $10 ticket from the hotel. Be warned though, the overnight rate only lasts until 8am so an early wakeup to shift the car to avoid the normal $4/hr day rate! A very tight lobby leads to 2 lifts and nothing else. We upgraded our room to an upper floor as the 1/F rooms had no views. The room is comfortable with a modern bathroom (glass shower) but none of the usual complimentary items eg. moisturiser, shower cap, etc Puka teabags was a nice touch however the mini fridge had nothing but UHT milk capsules plus the fridge was warmer than the room. There is a restaurant on the roof with views across the city but probably too high end for this hotel with a display wall of iconic wines - Penfolds Grange however it was facing the windows and the sun! The restaurant is stunningly fitted out with designer lighting plus there is a roof deck to enjoy a cold beer. IMO the location is the best attribute but the lack of any usual hotel frills means its average in value.

We spent two nights here at the conclusion of an Active Adventures NZ walking tour. I selected this hotel based on location and it turned out to be a great location. Our room was large and comfortable. Our 2nd floor room had no view. Front desk clerks were friendly and provided us some good tips. We particularly enjoyed his recommendation of the Riverside Market for breakfast and lunch.

Stayed here for my birthday. Right in the heart of the city, so great for being able to walk around bars and restaurants. The room was not that big. But comfortable bed, tea and coffee making and good bathroom. There is no parking at the hotel, but only $10 overnight for the carport a few minutes walk. We had breakfast included and would recommend it as it was very good. Will definitely come back to try the restaurant for dinner.

Nice hotel close to Christchurch Cathedral. Easy walking distance to eateries bars, shopping and Hsgley Botanical Park. Pricey but I guess thats because of its location. Room was clean and spacious. Only failt was the location of the toilet roll. Easy to get a taxi within five minutes.

We booked a room online and chose the slightly more expensive option, hoping to get one of the rooms shown online with a nice view. Imagine our horror when we found that the room had NO windows - it was also relatively small, so felt very claustrophobic and unsafe. We spent a horrible night, staying out as late as we could, then didn't sleep - we literally couldn't wait to get out of there! I'd never considered that I needed to ask specifically if a room has windows - it was so weird. There was no mention of it at all on the booking dot com website that we used. I emphatically suggest that if they are offering windowless rooms they state this clearly on the booking website. Oh - and the bed was hard, and the tea/coffee making as basic as it could be. The only good thing I can say is that it was clean. DO.NOT.RECOMMEND!!

This is a new central city hotel directly across from cathedral square. Within easy walking distance to riverside market and shops on cashel st. Rooms are Spartan but clean and warm, and quiet despite the location. Staff were friendly and pointed out some good attractions we might otherwise have missed.
