We had 5 nights in Poul & Nicola's wonderful B&B. They are very welcoming hosts and own an excellently appointed home. Breakfast is supplied on a DIY basis and more than enough is available - we were very happy with this service. The B&B is more like a holiday flat, comfortable, spacious, with a veranda overlooking the Heathcote River valley and Poul's wonderful hillside garden. The suburban location is good for reaching Christchurch centre (30 minutes by car) and also the attractions of SE Christchurch - Port Hills, Godley Head, Sumner, etc. Nicola & Poul give good advice about the local area - walks on Godley Head and on where to eat (Watershed pub 20 minutes away in Ferrymead).
We stayed at the Mt. Pleasant B&B on our first two nights in Christchurch from the U.S. We were very jet lagged, but this B&B was perfect. They have a completely separate unit with its own bedroom, bathroom, lounge and fully-stocked kitchen! It was the perfect place to regenerate before exploring NZ! Nicola and Poul are perfect hosts!
I really love this place. The amazing garden, the sounds of the birds, the silence, the great view and of course the delicious bacon. Nicola and Poul are perfect hosts doing everything to make your stay perfect. Thanks.
I stayed at Paul and Nicola's house in mid-Feb for four nights at the start of a 6 week holiday travelling alone in New Zealand and it was the best start I could have wished for... They both were so helpful, kind, and generous, arranging trips and showing me around Christchurch... Their house and gardens are spectacular and had everything I needed and more - its like having your own apartment (with the added luxury of a very big lovely old victorian roll top bath! They know how to be helpful but not intrusive and are both friendly, interesting people. Sitting on the balcony watching the light and weather change was just heavenly.... It's a wonderfully warm and inviting place to stay, full of interesting artefacts - including Paul's amazing sculptures in the gardens! I can't believe it isn't higher up the ratings for b& b's in Christchurch - it deserves to be up in the top five!! I would definitely have no reservations in staying there again - and hope to do so again when I return to NZ. Thank you Paul and Nicola for such a great introduction to your beautiful country! Heather in Cornwall :)…
By the time we hit Christchurch, we were on our "al-fresco" part of the holiday and booking accomodation based on entries in the NZ B&B (Black) Book rather than following the reviews and ratings of my Trip Advisor friends so a bit out on a limb! Paul and Nicola were excellent hosts making our two nights in Christchruch not only comfortable, but very interesting recounting (when asked) the experiences of the several Christchurch quakes since Feb 2011. This homestay provided exceptional value for money when you look at the space the accomodation gave us, the double bedroom would have been enough but added to that was a massive bathroom (along with roll top bath and separate shower) fully kitted out kitchen AND sitting room and balcony (which Mrs Chris R200 found very useful as a smoker). The views were very good, but hanging off a hill as the property is may be a little disconcerting although we experienced a tremor during our stay and the house remains! In 26 nights in B&B / Homestay NZ, it was the first where we were provided the ingredients of breakfast to do with what we wished, when we wished and actually, it worked for us! A personal prefference would have been less clutter - the accomodation seemed full of quirky dust collecting nic-naks, but that is my opinion only and shouldn't be seen as a negative. To be honest, if we were to return to ChCh I'd have no hesitation in booking again and knowing I'd enjoy the stay. Hang on in there ChCh, tourists will return!…
