Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

me and my mate were doing a bike tour around the south island. our standards werent particularly high, but this place was by far the worst we had stayed in. the rooms used to be old storage units and thats the way you get treated too. the owners just care about the money. the sheets had not been washed or swapped for quite some time, as I even had an obvious stain in the middle of my mattress, which resemmbled a stain that would have been left by a earlier male customer. we then decided to sleep with our clothes on since we didnt want to catch any STDs during the night.
we were charged 70 $ for one night, and seeing that for just 30 $ more you could get a pretty decent motel room, this is the last place you want to stay in!!!

I needed a bed close to the airport as my flight landed at way past midnight. I was shown a room that looked like a second hand furniture shop. There was a toilet roll on the table, I was not shown where the toilets were. There 2 cups & saucers on the table, but no kettle. The pillow case left smelt like someone had slept on it recently. Also I politely asked if I could leave my case for an hour or two in the morning, the owner just shook her head and walked away... I woke up to people looking through the gap in the curtains into my room. Couldn't get out quickly enough. Smelly, Dirty, No Toilets (?), Not even a plug for the sink ! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

We had booked in there for 2 nights we didn't even stay 1. It was disguising and very smelly.
My partner took my 3yo daughter to the toilet and it was covered in poo.
Would NOT recommend it to anyone.

The advertisement is incredibly misleading. For $55 dollars, this place was extremely overpriced. It was disgusting. I have stayed in several backpackers (good and bad), in Thailand, Australia, the UK and hroughout Europe, and this place was certainly the worst ''backpackers'' I have ever been to.
As soon as I had checked in, I spent $30 dollars to buy a sim card from the office (which was not inviting AT ALL and smelt absolutely terrible) and I spent the next 2 hours locked in my room trying to find accommodation elsewhere.
1 - The young guy that worked there barely spoke english.
2 - My room was foul, like a shoebox. It had no windows, just a glass door, was full of old dirty furniture and 3 beds crammed in next to each other.
3 - I was not comfortable being there and didn't feel safe to even leave my door open for some fresh air (because it smelt disgusting).
4 - I had to press a button every 10 or 15 minutes to keep the heater on - it was so cold in there not to have a heater on.
5 - When I asked where the wireless internet was, I was walked through a half built building, with scaffolding and wires everywhere, into a tiny, smelly, cluttered room with a tiny table where I could sit and use the internet.
8 - I got a bad vibe from the place, it was a total dump. There were strange people around. It was creepy as.
7 - Once I did get other accommodation and went to return my key for my $50 dollar deposit, the owner (who also spoke barely any english) was only concerned as to whether I had locked my room back up. Not once did he ask why I was leaving after only just checking in. He did not care at all and would not refund the $55 dollars I had spent on booking the hideous room. A lovely woman from a nearby motel came into the office with me, we were told to "get out" and basically chased out of the office after making a complaint.

DON'T STAY THERE!!!!

I have booked to this supposed Hostel thru a third party website.
To beggin with, I have tried to call the phone number provided with no luck.
I showed up at the place even though and it took 30 minutes for them
to answer the door.
The price changed 12.5% extra for the price I have agreed upon reservation.
I got very suspicious and I asked to see the room before I commit.
The person at the reception got a key under the balcony and walked me through the
property that was a personal rubbish deposit. Trash all over the place.
There was no guest at the property. I was the only supposed guest.
Once the person opened the room, it smelled very bad. I turned on the light
and there was several dirty spots on every single bed and no pillows.
The place was evidently never cleaned properly.
I have been through several hostels during this month and you never expect much anyway but this place is just out of the ordinary.

Please, do a favor to yourself and avoid this place.

We booked here and lost our money as they don't give refunds. It was so dirty we went to another hotel and paid again.

I would not want my dog to sleep here it's do dirty.

To top it all off the manger was extremely aggressive and rude to us!

Needed a place near airport due to very early flight. This was the only one we could find. But just don't do it. Room, kitchen & bathrooms unclean and smelly. No toilet paper. No towels to rent. No duvet. Avoid at all costs. Sleep in the airport instead.

Second night stay in New Zealand and second nights accommodation for 6 months traveling and by far the worst for them all. Last resort as we were late trying to find somewhere and this was our last option. When we arrived there was no-one there, so after a phone call we were giving a padlock code which opened a locker to find our room key. We never saw a single member of staff from checking in to departing. The room was awful! Our sheets had holes in, we're dirty and stained. The communal kitchen was beyond dirty, it was more like a serious health hazard! This was the most expensive accommodation of our trip and just trying to describe it makes me shudder. Stay away at all cost!

my fault that i didn't at least to a basic check before i booked this.
the beds are yucky, they don't even supply a doona cover. i am totally fine with only having the most basic accomodation, but it needs to be clean. and this so isn't. the attend doesn't help, either.
despite looking quite close to the airport, the taxi to get here was $38. and no easy way to get away from here again.

this has all signs of "we couldn't care less about how our guests feel as long as they payed in advance". nightmare.

This Backpackers was SO ugly and disgusting, we left after the first night, even though we already paid for a second night because originally we planned to stay there for 2 nights! No toilet paper (the reception-guy took his own toilet paper with him when he used the toilet!!), the kitchen totally unequipped and unusable because it was so dirty, the bathrooms had a smell that I rather stayed non-showerd than enter the shower there!!! The whole place looks like a dump, full of household-rubbish like old fridges! I called the manager and she just told me that "there's dirt everywhere in the world" and that I couldn't expect everything to be perfect! I stayed in a lot of hostels, some of them very cheap and simple, but i've never seen anything as worse as this!! We'll try to get our money back for the night we didn't spend there, so if anyone else is trying to get a refund from them please contact me, maybe we can work together...
