Detailed Reviews

We recently stayed at the Riccarton Motor Lodge for only one night before we left for our road trip round the South Island. The room was clean and the kitchenette appeared to have all that was needed. We had a second floor room at the front and there was some road traffic so I suggest you ask for a room towards the rear of the property. Reception staff was friendly and provided some useful information. The Lodge is up the road from a Westfields and there are a number of cafes and restaurants close by. My other piece of advice is don’t forget to draw the door curtain or you will have light coming in all night.

We had a two bedroom unit. It was fairly compact and not much room at all in the double bedroom to put luggage etc.
Has the shower over the bath. Paint on ceiling above bath was peeling.
Lounge suite needs replacing or a professional clean, as was quite dirty.
Otherwise everything was clean and the reception staff helpful.

My original company booked accom was wrong so I hastily booked RML. I was happy with the room and really happy with the shower, great pressure. Great aircon, great reception, really good location. The bed was comfy as well. I did like the kitchen in my room although had no use for it this time. The sky channel service was extensive and I spent more time deciding what to watch! I’d be happy to come back.

It's far from the city center, but the bus stop is right in front, which is very convenient. The supermarket in the nearby mall is open until late at night, so you can get there on time if you're coming back from sightseeing. It's about a 5-minute walk from the mall. The food court in the mall closes at 6pm. (The bus stop in front of the mall has route maps and timetables.) There's a delicious Vietnamese restaurant nearby. The owner is an elderly man, and he explained things to me in easy-to-understand English, even though I don't speak much English. He gave me a map of the surrounding city and explained various things. I forgot to take my clothes from the laundry, but he opened it for me. There was no bathtub, but it was very clean and the shower was good. There was shampoo and body soap, but no conditioner. There was coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, and there was milk in the refrigerator. The air conditioning was adjustable and comfortable. There was a note that said "There are ants," but I was careful, so it was fine.

Very disappointed. I booked this hotel for a friend who arrived to be told it wasn't booked and she had to find alternative accommodation late in the evening, having flown in from the North Island. The reception was rude, unhelpful and unacceptable. My friend luckily found alternative accommodation and later in the week received an email with an apology. But this is NOT good enough. This should not have happened.

I only stayed one night but it was great. Fully appointed room with everything you could want. Compact and complete with shower, toilet, kitchen, TV and wifi. Wifi and TV speed and clarity was very good and the water pressure and temperature on the shower was excellent. Would stay again.
At first I thought the road was bit noisy but once I closed the small window above the bed it was nice and quiet.

We stayed at this motor lodge as a last minute destination change, and were very happy we did! The rooms are very comfortable, with air conditioning (essential on the 36°C day we were in Christchurch!). Good location, close to the Riccarton Westfield. Affordable rates, very pleased with our stay!

Riccarton Motor Lodge looked good on the Internet when we booked it but it really let us down!
However, firstly the positives: fairly close to a Westfield shopping centre and also quite an easy drive to the centre of Christchurch; the gentleman in Reception was very pleasant and obliging; the water pressure in the shower was great; the kitchenette was quite good as well with tea and coffee supplied; and, there was free wi-fi. That's where it stops! Now for the negatives: the "studio" was very, very small - we couldn't pass by each other together; there were towels on the bathroom floor when we arrived (which were replaced with clean ones upon request); the showering area wasn't separately enclosed from the rest of the bathroom and so the entire floor got wet and slippery when we showered and we had to mop the floor up with our bath towels; there were no bath robes or free toiletries as advertised; there was no complimentary milk in the fridge; there was nowhere for us to put our luggage, however there was a luggage rack folded in the cupboard which we had to put in the kitchen as there was nowhere else for it; the instructions were to keep all windows locked and so there was no air circulation; we were allocated the front room very close to Riccarton Road which is a main road and it was extremely busy and very noisy until quite late at night and it started again very early in the morning. Riccarton Motor Lodge doesn't represent good value for money. We paid $149.95 for our one night. The wonderful place we stayed in the previous two nights was $158 per night for a lovely studio in a great part of Christchurch with continental breakfast included. Think twice about staying at Riccarton Motor Lodge!!!!!

My wife rang this motel to ensure that she could reserve a ground floor room for herself and he 84 year old mother. She was assured at the time of the reservation that they could meet her requirements.
When she arrived she was given a room on the first floor where she and her mother had to climb the stairs for access. On top of this the shower was an over the bath one which meant the elderly mother had to step quite high over the side of the bath.
The reason my wife rang through the reservation was to ensure that the room was on the ground floor and had a wet floor shower.

Great place to stay. Nice and peaceful but not too far from the Riccarton mall. There were 5 in our family and our unit was great. I would not have any issues in staying here again or to recommend to others to stay. Thanks for a great stay
