Chose this motel because it is dog friendly & would definitely return. Warm, clean, comfortable bed, good shower pressure, breakfast provided, very friendly lady on reception, great location. No issues at all.

only stayed here for 7 hours to get some sleep during our short transit, beats sleeping at the airport for sure.

cosy units and free wifi in rooms (you need to ask for more internet password coupons if you have more than 1 device). studio unit's shower stall is pretty small but adequate.

free 24hour airport pickup (2 ways) was a great help as taxis are expensive in NZ. You have to let them know in advance if you are arriving very early/late though.

to get the pickup- call the toll free number upon arrival (free, using the pay phones on the right as you exit the baggage claim area). they will come get you in about 10 min. pickup point is at the ground floor of the multi storey carpark- you can see the carpark on the right as you exit the international terminal. that's the general pickup point for the airport and you will see other people waiting for their friends and family to pick them up too.

if you have a late arrival, note that there are no grocery stores in the area that are open late so you might want to prepare some snacks in advance in case you get the munchies.

The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Airport transport included, though not mentioned in the hotel description. The room was clean and included a kitchenette and jacuzzi tub (again not mentioned) and was one of the least expensive available. Great value!!!

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this property despite the manager being very friendly and helpful. The owner is taking advantage of the current government scheme to house homeless people and others on bail. Several of these guests stayed up late smoking and having loud conversations outside their units. The noise stopped my kids from getting to sleep and the smell of smoke traveled up the stairwell and into our unit.
I reiterate the comment from another guest re the main bed being two singles pushed together with a significant dip in the middle making for an uncomfortable nights sleep. The standard of cleanliness was OK apart from the kitchen floor which felt really sticky.
The main thing I disliked about our unit was that every window was heavily frosted glass so it was impossible to see outside.

Disappointed, we stayed in the past and our experience was good, unfortunately we decided to stay here again and paid for a spa room, the hot water did not work and the reception had no idea when I would return. They promised us a refund because they changed us to a smaller room without a hot tub and the refund was not made. We feel cheated, I do not recommend it and I would never go back!

Like most others, we found this place to be quite clean. The unit that we had (#8) seemed small, but the property itself isn't huge and there are good number of units placed in the small amount of space, so I doubt any of them are very large. The bathroom was the smallest portion of the unit. The ceiling above the toilet was sloped and I smacked my head on it several times. The AC in the unit worked VERY well. The kitchen could use a few more dishes, but everything existed for making meals and it all worked flawlessly. Our unit had three windows and the door that could be opened (most of NZ was very hot while we were). Unfortunately, we couldn't leave any of them open as someone below our unit was smoking immediately outside their unit, and it was blowing up into ours (thus the use of the aforementioned AC unit). We had no issues with the Zenbu provided WiFi, other than the fact that 200MB is pretty small. It worked well enough without ever having to leave the unit and we didn't stay long enough to ask for another 200MBs. Other places we stayed happily provided us with additional codes, so I imagine that the hosts here would have as well. The only tiny problem that we ran into was with the TV. We don't live in NZ and thus are not familiar with SkyTV. When we arrived, we turned on the TV and couldn't get the remote to change channels. I could manually change them via the buttons on the TV, but I knew that was only changing on the TV, not on the SkyTV box itself. We called the front desk to ask for advice and the nice lady at the desk came up to help us out. Unfortunately, I think she was a little out of touch with the technology and could not figure it out. She placed a call to another employee and said she'd return when she got the call back. We ended up figuring out that someone had changed the input on the TV to something other than the one that the decoder was connected to, so we called her back and said we wouldn't require any more help. Again, this was only a tiny problem as we weren't going to be staying long enough to really watch any TV. Given the amount of damage still in the CBD (4 yrs after the last major quake), the location of this place is not bad at all. We drove from the location to the CBD in just a matter of minutes without much trouble (driving in the CBD is a completely different issue). We certainly wouldn't have a problem staying here again.

Just a few notes - they do not have a shuttle to/from the airport, so plan ahead. If you ride the bus it will be cheap but take some time. If you take a cab, it will cost a chunk of change.

They provide a washer and dryer but we did not use them.

The markings on the dials for the hob/stove top were incorrect. It had two burners with the nearest dial being correct, but the farther/top dial was actually rotated 180 degrees from what is printed on the glass.

Thank you for your review. Hope you enjoyed your stay in our twin studio. As there are 2 beds in the same room, the size of the room looks a bit small, the standard studio with only one bed will give you more space in the room and cheaper on price too:) Our air condition worked well in both summer and winter time, and all the units are smoking free. sorry about the smoke from the other guest out side the room. we are happy to provide more wifi to make sure the guest has enough to use if they ask:) happy to see our staff finally helped out with the sky 50+ Thanks again, and looking forward to see you again. Kind Regards, Amanda

We stayed at the 298 Westside Motor Lodge for three nights. The rooms were very modern and spotless with beautiful grounds. The hotel was in close proximity to the city bus lines. Several of the booking sites (not this hotels) state that there is free airport transfer which is not the case. The hotel offers 200MB of Wi-Fi which did not last very long. We had the spa room which cost a few dollars per night more, but extra cost was worth it. The owners were friendly, but not as friendly as the owners of other motels we stayed at.

Found this motel as one arguably closest to the airport and hence recommended for families/friends who'd want to fly-in/fly-out of Christchurch without the worries of airport transfers. The hotel is on riccarton road and a short distance away from malls and restaurants in the region.
The motel is (of course) family run and well maintained though the outdoors are a bit of crammed in terms of parking space for patrons. The rooms are all well done with all kind of amenities you could think of.
Recommended..

For 150NZD/night, I found the motel fairly expensive though worth the stay.

This has exactly what is wanted in a motel: quiet, clean accommodation and quality service. The kitchen was well laid out and fully equipped. Just one niggle, I would hope for a floor lamp in the sitting room as the existing overhead lighting reminding me of an operating room. Thanks for arranging for an early morning taxi pick up and sticking with us till the taxi arrived. .
