The premise is clean. I know it is already mentioned several times by other reviewers and to be honest, it is a lot of work to keep both the indoor and outdoor areas spick and span (hence many thanks to the team) all the time

We took a room on the second floor. The main walkway is probably narrower than most others but it is adequate. There are sufficient and updated facilities in the room, kitchen and bathroom.

Do engage with the proprietor if you need help on the locale or restaurant suggestions. He is customer-centric, genuine and generous with his time and advice

The location is perfect with several restaurants and a mall within walking distance

I travel a lot , I’m a national sales manager who lives in motels most of the year, I’ve seen them all, 5 star brand name hotels to no star what ever was left in a town. Golden star is exactly that your made to feel like a star... the host Putu and his wife make sure your safe , warm , and nothing is too much trouble. I’ve stayed at over 60 motels and hotels in Christchurch and now only stay Golden star. I have a disability (RA) and Putu understands my needs , he turns the bed down , warms the room up and the best and kindest thing he loosens the caps on the shampoo bottles as My hands don’t work so good.
Make sure you stay at Golden star it’s absolutely Brilliant !
The shower pressure is outstanding, the beds are a dream and if you have a disability ask for room 3 or 4

The rooms were lovely and clean and the lady that checked us in was lovely. The room gave you the ability to cook a meal and you could get a continental breakfast for NZD$15 per person. There was parking and laundry facilities which was great to do a quick load and then use the dryer. Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at this motel when I went down to Christchurch for work. I chose to stay here as the location is very convenient for my commute to work and also dining out after work at Riccarton.
The motel staff is very polite and friendly. The room is clean and tidy. They also placed me on the room toward the back of the property and it was very nice and quiet.

The motel is not on one of the major roads in Christchurch but there was still a fair amount of traffic on the streest so there is some road noise in the rooms. It is located about 10 minute walk away from Hagley Park and less than that to a number of restaurants and a shopping mall. The room was an average sized motel room but when the kitchenette is added it becomes a little crowded. The only place to eat was on the small patio off the room. The bed was firm but not overly so. It was a King (perhaps a queen bed would be better as there would be a bit more room then). The shower was good and so were the towels. The room was very clean and looked fiarly new. The man at reception was very nice and polite.

Fairly unassuming from the outside, this is a fantastic place in a great location. All modern and high quality fixtures inside, super comfortable. The owner was so friendly and even gave us some noodles we could make quickly as we arrived late and hungry after many hours of travelling - hugely appreciated! From the motel to central Christchurch is a pleasant walk through the park and also close by (10 minute walk) is a shopping centre with large supermarket and many other shops and eateries. Perfect stay.

We stayed here on our way through this interesting city. The hotel Manager was a very lovely and caring man who welcomed us and made sure we were comfortable and secure. The room was immaculate and we had a very restful stay. Fantastic service and caring people. Very convenient to the railway station.

I called about 8.30pm and they had a room. I said I would be late getting in and they had a security box for the key, explained how to access it and where the room was located. Very clean and tidy. Had everything I needed and comfy bed. Having the aircon was also put to good use. Thanks again.

We wanted to stay in a motel that was close to the railroad station since our train left in the early am. After reading Trip Advisor reviews we chose the Golden Star. We couldn’t be more pleased with our stay.
The room was spotlessly clean, comfy bed and great air conditioning. I particularly liked the the tasteful touches- beautiful silk accents, lovely embroidered towels and fully equipped efficiency kitchen. However the nicest part of the stay was the hotel owner/manager. We received such a friendly welcome and he was incredibly helpful with directions, assisting us find a free place to park our car and restaurant recommendations. Whenever we are in Christchurch, we will most definitely stay at the Golden Star.
