Old and worn out. Stained carpets and bed speads, collapsed mattresses in both rooms. Heater in bathroom inoperative, doors that do not close properly. Room was advertised as having a washing machine but this was not the case. Laundry room located downstairs and behind the building, the washing machine did not work properly and neither did the dryer, $5 per wash. Everything is needing to be replaced but no money has been spent with the exception of a new sofa and tv, but this just highlights how revolting everything else looks. A really poor effort for NZ100 per night.

My children and I stayed here for a night, while it was cheap, the cleanliness was rather poor, I found a chicken bag with bones and half eaten chicken in my freezer and my shower was not clean. I went to reception to let them know the lady was nice and came and cleaned it after I had told her but it should have been clean already. When we left I checked under the beds to make sure we had not forgotten anything and found rubbish and an old sock. Wouldn't stay here again in the future. .

The motel is close to the city. Somehow it escaped the earthquake because other accommodation not too far away was not so lucky. Furnishings are dated but the unit was clean. WIFI was good. Owners helpful and friendly. Can't complain. Cheap and cheerful, you get what you pay for!

This is cheap accommodation about 10 minutes walk from Christchurch centre. It has clean, functional rooms, with all facilities for cooking. It supplies tea, coffee and toiletries (which is not the case with establishments of a similar price in Christchurch.) It has pleasant garden surrounds. Drawbacks, only two, it can be a bit of a walk to town and it is not in a safe area at night. The owners, who are a very pleasant couple, need to check all windows and catches. One of the handles on the window was slightly lose in my room and this can be enough to put me off staying again in a place. I am often a single woman traveller . However, if you are on a budget, it is a good price. It is also on a main regular bus route. The beds seemed Ok to me and it has excellent showers. It was $60 for my room and this was a one bed unit as I was travelling out of high season.

We booked this motel directly without much fuss

reasons for booking

- cheapest rates for a central motel in Christchurch [ we stayed back at Christchurch before flying out to Auckland just to suit the flight timings - had little intentions save the nights sleep ] . Did not expect anything better than a very basic sleep and scoot place .

reasons for a strong recommendation

- this place is very nice with car parking right across your door
- Barry Murdoch is a gem of a host - full of infective good cheer and loads of helpful info about town
- spacious and comfortable family room ; two bedrooms and a full kitchen with cooking range . Enough hardware to cook a horse .
- just outside the devastation zone on a very quiet avenue yet only a few minutes drive away from the city attractions
- very good value for money and a pleasant surprise for us .

It's a tidy motel with pleasant surroundings .The room is fully self-contained with kitchen/ bath / lounge / bed room. For a lovely mini suite cost even less than a single room inside the city. Enough off street parking. Only 5 minute walking distance to the city center, just on the other side of the Worcester Blvd. The Kiwi couple are nice and friendly. Good vale for your money!

This would be one of the worst nights we have every had, the place was just dirty and run down, we went to use a knife in the draw and it had food on it, the glasses and cups we're dirty, the bed had stains on it including the sheets, the heater in the bathroom didn't go and looked like a death trap, carpets were just dirty, opened the cupboard to get a spare pillow to find what looked like black mouse poo on it, the only good this was pets were allowed but even the dog wanted to leave! What a shambles - this place is!

It's that far back stuck in a time warp you could almost hear the tones of Vera Lynn echoing around place!

I've given this place (I use the word place as the word hotel/motel would be incorrect) a one star rating simply because trip advisor doesn't let you tick zero!

If your idea of "home from home" is being stuck inside the set of a Dad's Army / Hi-De-Hi television sketch then by all means check in, chill out and have another glass of babysham, while the rest of us move into the 21st century!

Dirty, outdated, rundown, smelly and if you are in the hospitality industry at least have the gumption to guide your paying guests to local attractions and cafe's etc - it's your job to know the local area!

Don't just say; oh, I couldn't tell you where to eat, I've not ventured into the city for 3 years!!

Your hotel lists itself as being a 10 minute walk into town?!! Surely it's your job as a host to recommend/advise and guide people from out of town as to good places to eat, visit or drink?

Sad and sorry place but checking out is very quick and easy, you just wait till the sun comes up and leg it!

Found the service to be great, tidy basic unit with all the necessities - and great for the price.....would recommend it to anyone wanting clean, value for money with the option to cook for yourself, but still close to pubs, restaurants etc :)

This motel was the worst. I have slept in many motels, hostels, camp grounds, on my friend's kitchen floor, and I think once in a tree, so I am not a very picky person. And this was the worst place to sleep. When I asked the man working there if I could see a room before paying, he acted like I was being strange and unreasonable. The room was big and had a kitchen. Everything inside the room, except the TV, was very old, so that there were many large holes worn into the fabric drapes. But it looked clean enough and I was very tired, so I accepted, and what a mistake. When I layed down on the bed it was springy and I sank into it like I have never experienced before, so it was more like sleeping on a chair in an airplane then on a bed, except that a chair on an airplane doesn't make noise. It was the worst sleep ever, and I cursed myself for not saving my money by sleeping in the car (even though it was cold outside). In the morning I told the same man working there about the bed in a very polite way ("I just thought you should know..."), whereupon he began being dismissive and walking me toward the door, which made me believe he wanted me to leave. I guess this motel would be a good deal if you were part of a large group and everyone was extremely drunk. But for normal situations, stay away.
