Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came across this option for weekend accommodation when there was a major event on in the city, and virtually all of the city was booked out. That said - no wonder this motel still had a vacancy. Here is a constructive list of areas that we urge the motel owners to focus on: * Read the information regularly that is coming through on the booking sites - in this instance, we had requested a downstairs room with an accessible bathroom (such was the photographs linked to the type of room we had purchased on the booking site). We heard nothing. Zero communication. To our astonishment, on arrival, the motel was fully let. They had not recognised our confirmed booking. We were starting to get worried as there were minimal other accommodation options available in the city. The staff were able to scrounge a room for us off someone else - however, it was an upstairs room. * Main points to stress were about the lack of attention to detail around the room's amenities: (1) Stairwell and handrails were filthy, (2) Curtains were not fully attached to the tracks, (3) Microwave keypad and digital display was no longer fully functional, (4) no toaster, (5) no drinking glasses - they did not have any to supply when we made the request, (6) some lights were missing bulbs and lightshades, (7) there was no electrical plug close to the vanity unit in the bathroom, (8) the toilet seat was well and truly out of alignment and requires adjustment, (9) room is generally in need of maintenance / freshening up. On the positive side, the host was obliging and attended to our requests wherever possible. The room was serviced in a professional and thorough way. In summary - only select this hotel if you would be tolerant of the aforementioned points. We would certain not recommend it.

We have stayed previously at this motel over the years, and had no complaints. This property is now emergency housing facility - what a pig sty. The room was beyond filthy, food in ground into carpets and furniture. The bed had indents from Someone lying on it prior to our arrival. The bathroom stunk. The kitchen cabinets would not open, no mugs, glasses etc. it was extremely difficult communicating with the management, their English and understanding is very poor. We demanded a full refund and left. Extremely disappointing to see how people treat property, when it’s a helping hand. Stay well clear, unsafe environment.

The place is terrible and is a good example of why you should read previous reviews. Used for public housing, there were parties, dogs and rubbish everywhere. Owner never mentioned this and I found myself barricading the door at 3am to at least feel safe. Don't stay here.

The room itself was dated but the cleaners did a good job. Repairs in the room were rubbish, things held together with duct tape etc. Clearly the owners spend nothing maintaining the place. Once outside the room things got worse. Absolutely filthy outside, rubbish everywhere, vomit on the stairwell and carpark. Lots of families being housed in motel for housing new zealand, screaming, fighting and yelling at each other all through the night. Kids everywhere getting yelled at. Parties in the rooms till 2-3am. The owners do nothing about controlling noise. They also have dogs barking in motel. Only stay at AAA Northlands if you want a taste of living in a ghetto.

I stayed here with my elderly mother-in-law, I requested the wheelchair accessible room as she cannot get about to well. It is a basic hotel room, we had everything we needed, heater worked well as temps over night were very frosty. It is a basic 3 ⭐, The decor is dated, but was excellent value for money, cheapest I could find. Great location, room was quiet (no road noise). Excellent shower, brilliant pressure and hot! Best part of our stay.

I was here for a few days. To get food nearby had to walk around 15 to 20 minutes to get a below class restaurant. and opens maybe after 11 am or some days evening. The room is just basic. But still, that part is fine.

This motel was cheap and accepts pets. The heater worked well, the bed was comfortable and the shower was good. I would like to suggest to the owners/ managers that they put more equipment in the kitchen ( no bread knife for example); fix the broken light above the bed; and supply some of the stuff that they make people go to the office for, like blankets. I found the duvet too warm but there was no alternative. Sorting those few things would make staying here far more pleasant. I was close to the front but had no issues with traffic noise even though it was the weekend.

My sister and I stayed here on 16 February. A few days later we both came out in itchy bites, which is classic with bed bugs. The bites don't appear until a few days later. My other sister was staying in another unit and didn't have a problem, so it was confined to the one unit. Apart from the bites, the unit was clean, although quite rundown. The location was very noisy, with parties happening in adjacent properties. This is a budget motel but we wouldn't stay there again.
