Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the second time we stayed here. We found the experience very relaxing and the hosts extremely accommodating. They went out of their way to please us and succeeded in doing so. The room we had was perfect for us. The motel itself is probably a bit dated but nonetheless, comfortable, clean and tidy. The rooms are a good size and contain all that is necessary for a long or short stay. I believe there is a pool although we didn't use it. Outside the gate there is a bus stop for your convenience and a Z petrol station right next door. Plenty of eateries in walking distance. If you want a comfortable stay with very good hosts this is the place for you. Thank you so much to our hosts for all they did for us.

What a friendly and welcoming place! The location is excellent and parking was easy. The bedroom was spacious and the bed really comfortable. The pillows needed refreshing as they were a bit old and flat. The kitchen had everything we needed. They even provided washing up liquid and tea towels! It was all spotlessly clean. Though the decor was dated, it felt like home away from home and we loved our stay.

It was a nice wee place to stay for one night. Excellent host with the essentials needed.
Simple, relaxing and the location was perfect and easy to walk down to the local bars, or drive to near by shops and into town. Hardly any noise from the main road which was a nice surprise. Recommend to anyone if you are looking for a stress free place to stay.

They looked after us incredibly well after we were let down by our travel provider. They were great on the phone and at check in. Came to check on us a bit later and allowed us to stay past checkout time for a few hours before our travel pick up.

Cold drafty room with heater that kicks on for 1-2 minutes loudly, shuts off, turns back on all night while you are trying to sleep on the rock hard lumpy beds where every spring is pushing into your back. The local roadworks crews stay there; once you finally fall asleep be prepared to be awoken by cigarette smoke working its way into your drafty room and the now happily intoxicated workers talking loudly while smoking outside your room. Through the paper thin walls you can hear another room coughing all night (their room is likely drafty as well), another room using the toilet twice an hour with a loud flush, and another room who likely couldn't sleep resorting to middle of the night pleasure making. Glad to never stay here again!

I have stayed here on several occasions due to working in Christchurch and found it clean with everything I needed in a motel room that became my base for up to a week at a time.

The only gripe is the kitchen area (where the table was that became my work desk) was a bit cold to work in over the winter months, so I ended up moving the table into the main lounge/bedroom area, which worked ok and meant I could watch TV when working in the evenings.

Even though my accommodation was paid for by work I would consider the Raceway Motel as a place to stay on personal trips.

A pleasant, roomy NZ motel with excellent disabled access that on my visit was sparkling clean in every part of the room.

Like General Macarthur, I shall return.

I stayed here once in early 2013. At first all was fine but on chatting with the managers, I found that the only thing they were interested in was 'bad mouthing' other nearby motels, operated by a different nationality. These managers also seemed to have no ability to communicate with people and i found them to be very rude regarding their opinions of others.
I cleaned the toilet and the wet floor shower, floor which had what appeared to be faeces on it. I will never stay here again. Rather enjoyed going to the opposition down the road, who were fantastic.

A short stroll up the road and you are at the venue for many concerts in Christchurch, plus there is the bonus of a lot of restaurants or cafes close by.
On the main road also driving out of Christchurch via the south, this is a great choice, not expensive and was immaculate, even if a tiny bit dated. So spick and span tidy, with a feel of very caring owners/ managers, I was surprised at having made such a good choice. Sky TV, a nice garden, and generally

We arrived on a late flight to stay there the night before our Trans Alpine Train trip the following day. I asked at reception how long it would take to walk to the station and he offered to drive us there instead. That was greatly appreciated. I fully recommend a stay here. Very hospitable staff.
