Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My son and I stayed here for 5 nights and had very little sleep because there was no air conditioning and it was stifling. When we arrived my son collected the key and I was amazed that we were not shown to our unit. I have been staying in Motels throughout NZ for 50 years and have always been taken to the motel, shown anything I might need to know and asked if I need anything. I was quite shocked. We had no power so my son went and asked about it and the guy showed us to put the card in above the light switches. I've never seen that before. The 3 point plug in the first room was loose so I was a bit wary about using it. On the 4th night we had to change rooms as we booked a further night (prior to going down to Christchurch) but i wished we hadn't as the unit was poky and dark. Also the carpet was disgusting and my son mentioned and the guy said he had been meaning to do it but the weather was too humid. Why didn't he get a pedestal fan and cool the place so he could clean it. I would not rate this as advertised at 4.5. I'd say 3.

Great motel and good value stay. Reception lady (Phylis) was very friendly and helpful with places to eat etc. Very clean with comfortable beds so all good. We were booked in to take the train to Blenheim early next morning and Phylis offered to drive us to the station fantastic!

Comfortable and quiet despite being on a major highway into the city. Close to a very popular Chinese restaurant, cafe, subway and Caltex service station. Shower, sky television and coffee were all present . Nice use of overlay curtain for privacy and the key had a special holder to activate the lights which meant that you didn’t lose them. Only a 20 min walk to the cbd.

Gracious host, dropped us at rail station/picked us up from Tranz Alpine. I was happy to find cream for the tea in fridge. Marianne / Idaho Falls, USA family of 3/2 rooms. Great place. Our wheel chair lost a screw, we found a shop across from the motel that fixed it and would not accept payment.

Lovely host, room was comfortable, but the carpet was very stained and some of the furniture was very tired. The room had a funny smell (like garlic or something), it was fine when we had the windows open but we closed them overnight to keep the heat in and it was very noticeable in the morning. The room was good value and the motel is in a good location. We would definitely stay again.

This place is a little sad & needs a big makeover for the cost ... there was even a note in the bathroom telling you not to take the toiletries provided even though you pay for them in the cost of the room : (

A nice and clean place to stay. The rooms are modern and very comfortable. And also close to shopping center was a 10-15 minute walk. If you where going on the Trans Alpine train, they provided a great drop of and pick up service.

We were in town just for one night, before taking the morning train to Greymouth, We selected this hotel due to proximity to the station. It was absolutely fine-no issue with the room or amenties or check-in. The lady at reception, who may well have been the owner, could not have been more helpful with advice. She also ran us down to the station in the morning. If you need a hotel near the station, this is a great choice.
