A good size apartment accommodation. Clean & comfortable but a little dated. However the bin in the kitchen was totally full upon our arrival, the young man who checked us in came up immediately to deal with it & was most apologetic.
We did at least have 2 double rooms for a reasonable price. Most of our accommodations consisted of a roll out bed for our teenage son.
Situated in an area that has not been rebuilt it isn't an attractive location. The balcny view is of the courthouse.
The reception staff were polite but not particularly helpful or friendly.
We were dismayed to find that parking is charged extra & spaces were very limited. We were not impressed with the parking.
There was a washing machine that had a drying cycle- it did Not dry.
We spent 2 nights & came back to find the room had been well serviced but smelt strongly of cigarette smoke. The next morning I discovered smokers on the balcony below, so cleaners must open the balcony doors.
Unlimited WiFi

We have stayed here before and its a good option as its central enough to the CBD and around the corner from the casino area of town. Its also far enough away from city life noise. Its also not that expensive and we suggested an upgrade from our last stay to the penthouse suites based on what prices elsewhere were looking like. Penthouse suite would be an awesome way to start a road trip.
I have been in the penthouse suites before and not much has changed. The property is dated and it shows in the furniture and decor. The fountain in the atrium didn't seem to be going at all this time. Parking is not FREE like it stays in the blurb and will run you $10 a day. The room offered massive beds basic bathrooms and a well presented kitchen incl washer and dryer. Wrap around balcony with dated furniture and a big TV with surround sound speakers. Still they persist with the tiny kitchen bin. Big negative we had in our suite is that one of the 2 rooms in landlocked with no access to external windows, only a gloomy dirty as hell skylight. Stuffy and hot was the conditions presented to us when calling it a night. Those internal rooms need an aircon unit.
For the price you cant look to much past it. Good views from up top and a good price.

Location wise, the hotel was right in Christchurch CBD thus walking distance to major attractions such as the museum, botanical gardens and main shopping strip.

In regards to housekeeping, most surface areas are wiped down. Floors are slightly on the dusty side but still acceptable.

If you do decide to book this hotel, I would highly recommend bringing your own linen. Based on the tags on towels, I presume they outsource their laundry. And they keep "clean" linen in the car park, thus exposed to car exhaust and all sort of dust imaginable. We also found our face towels and pillow cases quite badly stained.

Booking was for 2 bedroom unit with separate bathrooms. The hotel was straight out of Singapore with faux neo classical themed architecture from the 80s which generally means an older style hotel design. Our lift opened into an open atrium and then into a short dark hallway to our unit. Large Lounge with LCD TV, Dining table and full size Kitchen including a tall fridge, washing machine but no dishwasher. A small balcony and heatpump provides a comfortable stay however acoustic between units was not good. The Kitchen had a floor drain where you could hear the people below plus quite a lot of noise coming thru from the above unit as well.
Bathrooms were old with towel racks located above the toilet! Not hygienic. The Ensuite was even worse. Designed for disabled compliance, the shower was basically the whole floor with just a curtain to contain the water which didnt work at all and virtually wet the whole floor. The trick was to turn the shower on at half flow. The toilet lid would not stay up and so sit down use was the only option. There was only 1 shelf about 4 inches wide which was just enough room for a toothbrush and shaver along with all the hotel toiletries and towels. No vanity drawers or cupboards so everything was on the floor. No towel rails or heaters & it was seriously cold in mid July and quite an unpleasant experience if you needed to use the toilet at 3am. No TV in bedrooms or heat pump but the bed did have electric blankets.
The restaurant was not opened (renovations?) but there were plenty of eateries down the road near the casino.
In our view the hotel is on the downhill slide of outdatedness and needs a serious upgrade especially the bathrooms.

Fino Hotel and Suites is one of the best located hotels in the city, right in the middle within walking distance of new shopping areas, the city centre, trams etc

We chose this hotel due to the proximity to the starting line of the Christchurch marathons and it did not disappoint in that regard, literally 30 seconds out the door and we were at the starting line. If you are in town for that reason I highly recommend this location.

The rooms themselves are quite comfortable, coming off an impressive atrium with views right down the middle. The furniture was all in good condition and laid out well. All the amenities you would expect.

There were only two downsides to our stay. The first is the noise, there are only single glazed windows so the city noise travels in the windows like they aren't even there. The second was the incredibly dated bathroom. The shower had next to no water pressure which was a huge disappointment after running a marathon, sometimes you just need a good shower.

I definitely recommend this location to families and people who want to stay in the heart of the city within walking distance of all that has to offer.

Travelled for work and this is by far the best place they booked me in. This hotel has a atrium that all rooms come off, something you don't see very often, and a nice change from the norm.

You can tell its an older building/rooms, however where possible they have been upgrading it. The room I was in had new carpet for example, they also have a big 48 inch tv in the room.

Best wifi I have ever had at a hotel, super high speed and never any dropouts at all, super comfortable bed.

Staff were excellent and extremely helpful.

Walking distance to food etc. and literally across the road from casino and town hall.

Only two things of note during my stay that could be improved:

The bathroom is not the biggest, and its a shower over a bath (a tiny bath, not a full size one).

You also can't pre book parking, you can only book parking when you check in and it is subject to availability ($5 per night).

Overall we enjoyed our time here. Two of our party of four thought the furnishings etc were a bit tired looking but the apartment was clean and the beds comfortable. We had a two bedroom apartment and the one thing we did not like was the bathroom arrangement. The fact there was only one bathroom between us was not a problem, we are happy to share. What did cause a bit of an issue was the fact that the bathroom was between the bedrooms with a door into each one. This meant that we all had to remember to lock and unlock both doors before and after taking a shower or using the toilet. I managed to lock my son and daughter-in-law out one night by forgetting to unlock the door to their room. I guess the owners had to work with the building layout they had inherited when they took over but it was an odd arrangement.
Another slightly odd thing was the provision of dishwasher tablets but no dishwasher. At least, our efforts to locate one were without success. I left convinced there was some hidden door I had overlooked! Other than that, the kitchen was well equipped for people who, like us, wish to self cater. We also had laundry facilities which is a boon when touring from place to place. A small supermarket and a shop selling wine were within a short walking distance.
Both receptionists we dealt with were very helpful and welcoming and happy to give directions to various places of interest. The train station was further away than we thought it would be so the advice re booking a taxi and how much time to allow was greatly appreciated. Quake City is within a reasonable walking distance.

Room was tidy, was disappointed that the washing machine and dryer were broken, attempted to wash a load of clothes and the machine would only fill with water and then stop. Ended up with soaking wet washing to take on the plane as the dyer was not only filthy it didn't work. Tried to get this fixed while we stayed but the machine was unfixable and the staff wouldn't take the washing to clean and dry elsewhere..... Not great service, quite upset really.

Disappointing experience with this hotel. I booked 3 months ago what I could only assume was a pet friendly room for my dog and myself on Agoda.
The hotel is listed on various online booking sites, on their website and on social media as being pet friendly.
I was informed 3 days prior to my stay when I manually confirmed my booking that they had no pet friendly rooms available and as I had not selected a pet friendly room they could not help me.
As it turns out the pet friendly rooms only show up on the booking sites if there is one available for the dates selected, but its not clear anywhere that you are not booking a pet friendly room so I though nothing of it.
When I phoned to speak to someone to ask what could be done about this, their offer was to cancel the booking for me. Hardly a solution to the problem from my point of view.
I understand that not every room can be pet friendly, not everyone loves pets, so I offered to pay a bond and cleaning fee, but still the reply was we can not accommodate your pet.
I have stayed at the hotel in the past and the location and the rooms are great, just a pity about the bad communication.

We stayed for two night in a spacious unit that was the size of a small flat. It comes with a fully equipped kitchen. The hotel is situated in close proximity to the Casino. It is on the northern edge of the central business district. It is a 12 minute walk to the riverside restaurant precinct and the major retail area. For this visit to we had to walk to find breakfast. We could taken the opportunity to reduce cost by visiting one of the local supermarkets. It had the added bonus of on-site secure parking.

We arrived in the early hours after our flight landed from Sydney at midnight and there was no problem. The front door is locked at that time but the desk is manned 24 hours so you'll be let in. I did email the hotel to tell them of my expected arrival time which you might want to do too. Enjoyed our stay there. Food was excellent.
