We have often stayed at the Arena Motel in the past and were very happy with this latest stay. There is a new manager, Gina who made us so welcome. We arrived early and she was more than happy to store the luggage until later. On returning later that afternoon, it was a most pleasant surprise to see the bags already in the room. One of the reasons we like staying is that there is a small kitchen where the dishes can be washed in the sink, not in the bathroom as is with many hotels. The motel was very warm and has very convenient bus stops within a couple of minutes walk. We are hoping Gina stays on.

The Arena motel is very close to the Tranzalpine train station. But they picked us up and dropped us off which was amazing .
The rooms are superbly clean with a lovely bathroom and small kitchen .
The motel is located within easy walking distance of shopping and many cafe and restaurant choices . We sampled a few !
The staff are fabulous and really helpful with ideas and there is a very helpful guide in the room where they seem to have thought of everything .

We stayed here between journeys on the coastal pacific and tranzalpine trains. Its 10 minutes or so drive from the motel to the station and the owner was there to meet us and take us back the next morning which was great.
We had an upstairs room which was very warm due to the extreme temperatures at the time, unfortunately there was no air conditioning but we did have a fan. The beds were reasonably comfortable, we had a double and single and slept well. The room was quite large and had a decent shower.

We picked this Motel as it was close to the train station but unfortunately because of COVID the train was cancelled. The value to us when booked was that we were able to leave our car here while we travelled for a week. We had room 1 which had a queen and 2 single beds which were comfortable.
The kitchen has a small cooktop, microwave and the seal on the fridge was broken. The decor and furniture were worn and the place needs a bit of TLC but the unit was clean. The shower works on a califont system and the pressure was pathetic. The shower in our caravan works 100% better. The light bulb was blown over the vanity. Ok for a 1 night stay.

The motel is untidy and unkept. We stayed in an upstairs room. The room was warm with an air conditioner and wall heater, had sky but wasn’t working at the time of our stay, we weren’t told this until we enquired, room dirt, beds old hard and stained. The shower has a gas turn on button and wet cold while using. This motel did not what I was expecting.

It’s near the train station with an exceptional free transfer service with an exceptionally helpful driver. This is about the only really positive thing I can say about this Motel.

For some bizarre reason, before we arrived, I was offered an upgrade to a larger bedroom which I opted for, even though I had advised the motel on initial booking that my wife was disabled. This upgraded room was up a flight of stairs and was so ‘dated’ that it sadly looked like it had had no attention for at least 30-years. The decor was dreadful, the room dreary and upsetting and totally cramped. The small double bed was relatively comfortable as was the single bed.

I noted there were (what appeared to be) Access rooms on the ground floor. Therefore, I take it that the company would prefer to take money and greatly inconvenience guests rather than think positively. I know not all disabilities are visible; however, a couple in the Access room were on our train and the room would have been much better suited for my physical mobility disabled wife.

It was undoubtedly the worst accommodation by far amongst the 12 different hotels/motels we stay on our trip.

The Arena served its purpose. It was close to the Christchurch railway station and provided a free transfer there for an early start the next morning. The motel itself however is very tired and incredibly noisy! The road works nearby didn’t help, but the road noise in front and constantly barking dog behind meant a poor sleep by all.

Rooms are good but there is no aircon when it is very hot, all you could do was to open the windows.
trying to do your laundry was rather poor, could only use between 2 and 5.30 pm. But most time it was used by management and you could not use until they had finished.
Close to railway station was good and to local shop.

Everything about this motel was terrible. We had organised a complimentary shuttle from the railway station on our arrival at Christchurch railway station. This did not turn up. So things did not get off to a good start. We originally booked for 4 nights but due to our whale watch trip being canceled due to bad weather we had to rearrange the date for the whale watch trip. This meant leaving a day early to return to Kaikoura. I informed them that we would be leaving a day early and was told that the I needed to give them 48 hours notice of a cancellation. I pointed out that I was cancelling the 4th night so it was in fact 72 hours notice. I was more or less told 'tough luck'. There was never anyone in the office if you needed anything and our room was not serviced for the three days that we stayed there. The place was generally grubby. When you could find the staff they were rude and unhelpful. I was told that the matter would be referred on to the owner's and that I would be getting a response the following week. I did not receive any feedback. It took me a week to contact anyone by telephone as I constantly got a message saying that the phone could be answered at this particular time and to leave a message. I left messages but got no answers. When they finally answered I was once again told 'tough luck'. Finally, I would say that the Motel was overpriced and I would not recommend that anyone stay there.

This is a great motel close to the Christchurch railway station in Addington. So why am I disappointed?
We have stayed here twice in the last 3 weeks and both stays were very good except the event that soured our stay.
We were booked on the Coastal Pacific train which leaves at 7am. The motel offers a drop off service and we booked this for 6.15am. Unfortunately nobody picked us up so at 6.25am we had to drag our bags to the station. Luckily it is not too far and we were capable of walking the distance.
It was disappointing that 2 good stays should end like that.
This motel is within walking distance of a number of restaurants.

I am not sure, we were only there for one night. They offer a laundry service but that doesn't mean they have driers for your to use. I am sure if you emailed them they will be able to answer your question
