Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here after we got off the ferry, not wanting to drive all the way to Kaikoura in the dark. I was warmly welcomed at check in and we quickly settled into the room. The room is large, clean, and has everything you need for a comfortable nights stay. The motel is by a main road so there is truck noise during the night but it faded into the background after a bit. Highly recommend staying here if you’re in the area and need a comfortable place to stop

This motel was very clean and tidy with everything you would want for a stay. I stayed one night and enjoyed my visit. The host is very friendly and full of helpful information.

Even though this motel is on a main road is wasn't noisy at all.

For starters, this place has been renamed the Flaxbourne Motels and Campground, in recognition of the area's initial, post settlement name. It's an excellent base for so many attractions this part of South Marlborough offers: Ward Beach, Marfells beach (for a day hike to magnificent Cape Campbell lighthouse), Yealands Estate for a wine tour through this spectacular coastal winery (take your bike and a picnic, grab a bottle of wine and sit among the vines listening to the classical music played to the grapes !), or lunch in Seddon, or use the motels as a place from where to take a day trip to Kaikoura. The motels are super clean and comfortable, and if you don't want to cook there's a cafe across the road. 💙

A perfect stay at Flaxbourne Motel in Ward. We arrived in Ward to friendly and helpful service and a lovely, clean, homely, well-equiped and cared for motel. Modern decor, fresh quality linen and towels, plus great hot chocolates and teas. Everything and more after a long days driving. Only 1 hour from Picton with boat parking and lovely grounds. This will definitely be our place to stay before and after our ferry travel. We will definitely stay again.

Stayed just one night. Nice and clean. Said we had free wifi, but only got to check our facebook for one minute before we had used our limit.

Host was great and changed our booking as we had car troubles further north. Room was excellent and very clean. Had trouble with the booking agency when we had to change dates, as the first booking had to be cancelled through their site. Was able to obtain refund as the host supported my cancellation. Highly recommended.

Warm, friendly, welcoming and comfortable. We spent a night here on our journey south. The hosts are great, the location very convenient and the quality of the rooms is very good. Quite frankly, it is easier to stay here than in Blenheim or Kaikoura. And if you are travelling south, hitting the coast in the early morning light is well worth it.

I stayed here for one night. The lady who checked me in was very friendly and helpful. It is an older style motel spacious with a well appointed kitchen and very clean. I found the bed so comfortable with lovely linen and a down duvet.

I liked my stay here. The room was spacious, clean and tidy. Jules was polite, friendly and very welcoming. For me since I am cycling around, the location of the motel was perfect. Even though on the main highway, the noise of the traffic didn't bother me when sleeping. Thank you
