Carnmore Chateau Marlborough has garnered compliments for its pristine and cozy atmosphere, with modern comforts enhancing guest stays, although some feel the decor lacks vibrancy. Opinions on service and value vary, with guests applauding the staff's friendliness but also pointing out issues with efficiency and perceived high costs. The hotel's prime location near Blenheim's hub is a highlight, yet amenities like the gym and pool have not met everyone's expectations. Room experiences differ, as some find them spacious and updated, while others see room for improvement.

We stayed at Chateau Marlborough for 4 nights, having previously stayed there in 2018 when last in New Zealand.

This is a modern and stylish hotel, in the centre of Blenheim and within a short walk to the shops, bars and restaurants of the town centre.

The hotel has complimentary parking and an outside swimming pool with good seating areas served by the bar.

We booked a balcony room on the first floor, with a small furnished balcony overlooking the car park and swimming pool. Although the room was comfortable, we were disappointed with the lack of drawers and limited hanging space, and because of this we were unable to unpack our cases, as we were able to in other hotels on our trip. Also the room had no safe (the only hotel room without a safe during our 5-week holiday), and the bathroom was quite basic although clean. The hotel describes itself as "luxury" but our room did not fit this description.

The hotel has a very good bar and restaurant, where we enjoyed drinks and breakfast, and all of the staff there were friendly and efficient, with special mention to Manny who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and valued.

Finally, we were disappointed to find that the hotel had removed the guest laundry, which was there on our last visit in 2018, and this was surprising as all of the other hotels we stayed in, including the 5-Star St. Moritz Hotel in Queenstown, had a guest laundry, which we think is essential when on a touring holiday in New Zealand.

We enjoyed our stay at the Chateau Marlborough, and hope that the constructive comments in my review will help the hotel to better understand the things that, if addressed, can only improve the customer experience.

Hi farrj, Great to read your kind feedback on your recent stay. Glad to also see you enjoyed our restaurant and bar, and our other facilities. We pride ourselves on our service, and great to see Manny made your stay memorable, I will pass this onto the team. We no longer have a guest laundry, and have removed this due to health & safely/fire risks. We always appreciate feedback on improvement, and thank you for placing yours. We do hope to see you again. Kind regards Matthew

There was very little not to like at Chateau Marlborough on our one night stay.
Staff at reception were very good , the room was spacious with an extra comfy King size bed. I was already won over on seeing the bed and the room was 35 square metres , very clean and tidy.
The large shower & bathroom were very modern with great toiletries .
As often in a strange room it takes a wee while to sort out how things work i.e. shower systems - same with the toiletries which worked by squeezing the downward facing containers. Fine once you work things out.
For us, we arrived thinking that there were facilities for making our own breakfasts which was not so.
We requested breakfast bowls, milk and teacups which were very efficiently brought to our room.
So if you are planning to cook, reheat or make your breakfast, you either need to communicate to the hotel at the time of booking and clarify such matters.
The Hotel provides meals with a reputed very good restaurant and my thinking is that if you want to spoil your Partner or Family and have the Budget to do so,
Then this Hotel would be very hard to beat in Blenheim.
Finally, we left behind an expensive car key but were promptly rang by the very good staff to let us know.
A nice final step to experiencing a very good establishment.
Thank you Chateau Marlborough.

We stayed in Chateau Marlborough for two nights. We were upgraded at check in to the Penthouse and were pleasantly surprised. However, it was soon clear why we were upgraded. We paid in advance months ago and paid over $400 a night for a regular room under the premise the hotel was “luxury” accommodations. At the time of our stay the rates were advertised at $200 and even less for the next day online. I witnessed someone walk up and ask for the rate for the same night we were staying and she was told $200. We were pretty disappointed that we paid over double when we prebooked, so I guess we inadvertently paid for that Penthouse after all.

No breakfast was included in our rate, but we opted for a breakfast buffet in the hotel our first morning. The buffet was $30 each and it was limited in offerings and unmemorable in quality. I would recommend skipping it altogether for the plethora of cafe options only a minute’s walk away and much tastier and cheaper.

The room was clean but average; bathrooms recently renovated including high-end toiletries from Elemis (awesome). The rest of the room was ready for a remodel and somewhat run-down. Mattresses were acceptable but very soft and probably older and ready to be replaced. The toilet seat was falling off the toilet in one room and a light fixture above the toilet was filled with flies. The entire penthouse has one air conditioner which cannot impact the excess heat in the bedrooms as it’s located in the living room. We slept with the windows open, but with the road right below, the road noise (sirens at night and an idling tour bus below our windows at 6:45 am) wasn’t the best for sleeping.

All in all, I’d stay here for $150 a night but this is not a luxury accommodation by any definition. It’s clean and the staff is truly lovely and friendly. The food is average but overpriced. Location within Blenheim is awesome, but there’s very little to do in Blenheim. Consider staying here if you find a good rate.

Hi RainbowBriteErin, Thank you for placing your feedback with us. We did upgrade you to our 2 Bedroom Penthouse which is our highest room category. Our rates are dynamic and do change depending on occupancy and seasons, this is normal practice with almost all Hotels. We do have a large range of room types and each has its own price, the $200 room you mentioned would off been our standard lead in rooms. Sorry to hear you did not enjoy our buffet. At this time of year, summer temperatures can rise, and we do try our best to keep all rooms cool by opening windows and turning on air-conditioners for guests. All rooms do come with an air-conditioner, including one in the main lounge of the Penthouse. Sorry to hear you thought there was little to do, however Blenheim and the Marlborough region has many activities/events to offer, and we are the wine capital of the country which attracts many domestic and international visitors to the town. We do appreciate all feedback on improvement, and we thank you for taking the time to place yours. Kind regards Matthew

There aren’t a lot of options in Blenheim for accommodation unless you are looking for a backpacker inn. We booked this hotel assuming the $450/night price would ensure a comfortable, upscale experience.

Instead, we encountered a hotel with a thin veneer of “upscaleness” that is more concerned with cost minimization than delivering value for its relatively high price.

We booked a “suite” with a balcony which is really just a large hotel room, with the patio door opening to the parking lot. The large windows lacked shears so the only option for privacy was to close the solid curtains, shutting out all the daylight. We assumed a “balcony room” would be a second floor room but were informed none were available.

The bathroom contained two small, thin bath towels (think Motel 6) and a single hand towel. We asked the front desk for more and they were duly delivered, but really, why do we have to ask?

The bed was two single beds pushed together, with cheap and uncomfortable pillows. The TV system is out of the last century—difficult to use, slow and with a very limited selection of channels.

We checked in at 6:30 pm and were informed that booking the restaurant for dinner was “essential.” I turned around and could see the restaurant was completely empty. Not a single customer (or staff member) was visible. We went to a local gastropub (Marlborough Public House) for dinner which was excellent, as was The Goodhome which we went to on our second evening.

Breakfast in the restaurant ($25 per person) is a rather unimpressive buffet, and includes undrinkable urn coffee. An espresso drink is extra cost. After being in New Zealand for over a week, we had been spoiled by the coffee and food culture and this hotel’s breakfast is an insult to that. A few sad looking pastries, and a hot bar featuring fatty bacon, poached eggs, and a minimal bread selection. We are glad we didn’t try the restaurant for dinner.

On our second morning we asked for a late checkout and were granted an additional 30 minutes. Big deal, they picked my pocket for $1000 but they want me out of there immediately. Cost minimization all the way, in spite of the high price.

Hi VictoriaTravellers, Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your time with us. Our rates are dynamic and do change based on occupancy and seasonality, and you were staying over a peak time at the Hotel. We normally get great feedback on our balcony rooms, so disappointing you did not enjoy them. Our housekeeping supply towels based on two people in the room, however if you require more towels we are more then happy to bring them to you. We always advise to make a booking in the restaurant, as though it can seem quiet, it can get very busy quickly and we wouldn't want you to miss out on a table. Espresso coffee is always an additional cost, and this is standard in most New Zealand Hotels. Most Hotels check out time is 10am, and ours is 11am, though we can usually extend till 11.30am free of charge and often beyond this (wherever possible). We feel this is very generous compared to most Hotels strict check out times of 10am. As our check in time is 2pm we do need time to clean these rooms and prepare them for the next arriving guests. We do appreciate all feedback on improvement, and we thank you for placing yours. Kind regards Matthew

While the room was spacious and comfortable, several things annoyed me, not least of which the fee for this average motel. The light switches on the walls, particularly in the bathroom were unusual and mounted sideways, making them difficult to turn on or even locate in the night (some switches worked, others didn't). Vehicle noise from the car park was very noticeable and disruptive in the early morning while trying to sleep. A cleaner opened the front door without knocking or announcing themselves while I was changing and walked in on me. Without a security chain on the door there is nothing guests can do to stop this. When booking, we chose to upgrade our room to allow for a balcony and the increase in cost was definitely not worth it. Would not stay here again.

Hi Kiwiphil0, Thank you for placing your feedback with us. Please note our rates are dynamic and do change based on seasonality and occupancy. Our balcony rooms do get great feedback from guests, especially during the sunny summer days we have, but disappointing too hear you did not enjoy them. Apologies you did not hear the room attendant knock and announce themselves before they entered to service the room, the staff are very well trained to do this. Location was superb with easy stroll into town and beautiful square opposite. Lots of parking for guests on site and roadside parking for visitors. , room was spacious and well presented. Loved our room right next to the pool area and having a carpark and patio out the front. Friday 'happy hour' was magic; fantastic musician, cheaper drinks and amazing pool area to enjoy with great poolside furniture, offered so many spaces for many groups. We dined in the restaurant and would thoroughly recommend, really decent prices for very, very good food. Enjoyed the menu choices and service was great. Enjoyed the 'pillow' menu in our room, so many to choose from.
Lacking a few of the 'extra' touches that I have found with other 5 star hotels which make you feel very welcome and treated i.e. body lotion, make up wipes etc. Appreciated the complimentary biscuits but wished that they were topped up each day. Bed felt like two singles pushed together and wasn't the most comfortable

My wife and I were on an organized tour of New Zealand. We spent 1 night in Blenheim. The room #24 was spacious with a queen bed. There was a sitting area with a lounge chair. There was a small desk with a small "dresser" with an enclosed refrigerator. The bathroom was of adequate size. There was a single sink and a small shower with pump bottles for Elemis-brand shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. There was an outdoor swimming pool. The Wi-Fi worked well.

The hotel was located a 5-minute walk from the Countdown supermarket, which was very convenient.

It was my first time visiting Blenheim and what a great choice I made by staying at Chateau Marlborough. I'm a busy medical specialist who rarely gets time off work, but I decided to drive up from lovely Christchurch for a fantastic full day wine tasting tour around Blenheim. The hotel is exceptional. I only stayed one night but the attention to detail in the one bedroom suite was highly impressive (and I have stayed at some awesome hotels around the globe). Copious supplies of shower cream, shampoo and conditioner in the lovely shower (as opposed to minute pointless bottles of the same at other hotels). Recycling and regular bins in the room (impressive). I only stayed one night as I was heading for Nelson, but I will definitely stay here again when next in Blenheim, and you should too.

Very pleasantly surprised with the excellent standard of roooms and restaurant. Post Covid pricing must make this the value proposition of the moment. From the seamless reception, very convenient parking and beautifully presented room to the very tasty Vension in the restaurant I started to wish this was a destination as opposed to just a transit.

Dear valued guest, Yes, our restaurant opens for breakfast and dinner all year round, including public holidays. Our Quench restaurant will extend its service to include lunch service on Christmas Day. However, it is crucial to enquire and book in advance, even if you are staying at the hotel. You are more than welcome to contact the hotel directly if there’s any questions, or if you wish to reserve a table. Thank you. Warm regards, Carnmore Chateau Marlborough
