First impressions create a lasting impression and the greeting from Simon was certainly impressive. We’d never met before, but his welcome was akin to meeting a great friend who’d you not seen for a couple of weeks. There was a common connection, I was wearing an England rugby shirt and Simon was a former professional rugby player. The All Blacks had just beaten Ireland, and the week before England had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against the All Blacks. He took us into the back and introduced us to his friends with whom he had been watching the game. One of who was former Kiwi cricketer, Chris Cairns, it was an honour to meet them both. Throughout our stay, Simon always had time for a chat, enquiring about our day ahead, or the places we’d visited.

The room had a large, firm’ish bed, facilities included microwave, double ring electric hob, fridge, toaster, kettle, cafeteria and a Nespresso machine. Breakfast could be ordered, which Simon delivers to the room, we were unaware of this, so visited the local supermarket (5 minute walk away) and bought our own provisions. As you’d expect with a former professional sportsman at the helm, the TV channels included sports channels. They are also washing and drying machines on site.

The Motel is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the main town where the restaurants are. We ate at the Good Home, which I’d recommend and the Dodson Beer Garden, a German themed bar, very genial host, this is about a 30 minute walk, but also recommend. There is a fish and chip shop next door, which we never tried but always smelt good.

Highly recommend this motel. Hosts Nicola and Simon were very welcoming and helpful and made several suggestions of places to visit while in Blenheim. Our motel unit was fresh and clean and well appointed with little extras provided such as chocolate fish and coffee plunger. Will definitely stay here again when in town. Price was also very reasonable, good value for money. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Comfortable hotel run by a lovely family which was perfect for our family of 5 and dog. We arrived late at midnight and the motel was very accommodating. Our two bedroom unit was spotlessly clean with good sheets, a little kitchen & nice toiletries. The motel itself is nice with fruit trees (the hotel let me take a tangelo) and the little pool is in a pretty garden setting with pool toys. There’s a little store near by open from 6AM-11PM which is convenient.

We stayed a couple nights at the Colonial Motel and found our room to be clean and the bed comfortable. The owner was very helpful and attentive. Nice touch with the chocolate fish on check-in. My average review score is totally on the fact that we were unable to use the ceiling fan in our room due to a lost remote and had to rely on a pedestal fan. Unfortunately, a second floor room and very warm weather do not go together with cooling via a single fan which was noisy to have on during the night.

Situated on the outskirts of town it is still only a short walk to the bars and restaurants.
Well equipped kitchen with all you need for a short break.
Nice pool area wit sun loungers and the all important BBQ.

Very friendly welcome from Peter in this classicly styled motel when we arrived for a one night stay. Reasonable size room with living, dining and kitchen areas plus two double bedrooms. The bathroom is small with shower. Kitchen has a hob, kettle, toaster, electric frying pan and fridge. The internet is very slow @ 9Mbps / 12 which was just enough for emails, but not streaming. There is however 52 Sky channels. There is a small pool next to reception and parking is outside the room. As we were nearest to the road it was quite noisy with heavy vehicles, even through the night.

Response from Peter Etheredge, Owner at Colonial Motel
Responded 27 Mar 2020
Thank you for your review as it is always helpful to us to have feedback. It is appreciated. We are next to the main highway so it does get quite busy especially during grape harvest time. The old router has been replaced and things have improved. We do have the ultra fast broadband. Bathrooms may be small but they are functional and the lounges are spacious. great kitchens and bedrooms are reasonably sized. Thank you for your stay and comments.

Our two-night stay at the Colonial Motel was very pleasant. The hosts were exceptionally friendly and likable and the accommodations were ultra-clean and comfortable. We especially liked the modern decor. It was peak tourist season when we stayed, and although the place was full up, our room was quiet and peaceful for a good night's sleep. We will definitely stay again, if foreign travel ever becomes a thing again....

From the phone call to book through to our departure, the hosts were fantastic, friendly & made us feel very welcome.
The room was really nice & clean, the kids loved the pool and we will define stay again next time we are passing through.
Was also great to be able to have our wee dog stay with us in the room.

We stayed in a 1BR unit, it’s very spacious for two people. The sleeping arrangement is a bit unusual with the queen size bed in the living area and 2 single beds in the bedroom. The unit is nice and bright with a pleasant outlook, is clean and has a decent kitchen for quick meal preparation and coffee/tea making. Easy to walk to restaurants and nearby shops.
