Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay in October 2022 was a highlight of our Kiwi and Australian vacation. Caro and Hugh are far more than innkeepers, they turned out to become friends. And yes, they were professional, but they were kind and generous far beyond what was expected of a well-heeled boutique hotel. The accommodations were unique, eclectic, and comfortable. Caro's recommendations for shuttles, cellar doors, lunch reservations, and outings were spot on. Without their insights, we wouldn't have known we were contending with a national holiday. We arranged ahead of time to have a platter of food on our first night at Antria (after too many hours of travel from the US) and it was exceptional! Breakfast daily included eggs the hens on the premises laid hours earlier. In other words, the food was divine. By the end of our 6-night stay, we shared stories, wine, and promises to stay in touch. (Hiring a car service or having your own car is recommended especially, though all you need is to have a bycicle to visit the wineries.)

This lodge and the host Caro (Hugh was "invisible") are playing in the top league of B&Bs in New Zealand. The location is just beautiful and Caro pampered us with a wonderful dinner and excellent breakfasts. She was also so kind to book and drive us to a "wine hop on hop off tour" which we enjoyed very much. Thank you Caro for your engagement, we will keep you in very good memory.

We spent 2 nights here in March and weren’t disappointed. Nothing was too much trouble for Phil from recommending restaurants to providing us with a cold platter of food and wine after a day out wine tasting and cruising the Marlborough Sounds. Thank you Phil for a wonderful stay.

The hosts are lovely and the property is lovely. It is a bit of a hobby farm with a goat and some chickens and a very friendly dog. We stayed three nights in what was labelled a cottage in the description but it was in fact a trailer. While it had been very nicely finished inside, it was still very narrow and the bedroom was extremely tight. All this would have been fine if it had not cost us $525 per night. By far the most expensive accommodation during our two month trip here. We stayed in very nice places for far less, so we were expecting something special.

Most of the reviews are from when different hosts ran this property. Hugh and Caro have 2 rooms available that are not luxurious. They are furnished with what look like left-over bits of furniture that are too random to be considered eclectic. This is not a gorgeous spot. We had a view of a lawn and tall hedging. We have stayed in many more scenic properties in NZ than this. There's no TV; not everyone wants one but it's good to have the choice.
The staged property photos do not truly represent the reality. E.g. dining under the rose archway, full access to the pool (because the cover was on). It is more like a standard airbnb, definitely nothing better, so not good value for money.

Plus points: breakfast and comfortable bed

Phil, the owner of Antria, was an excellent host and cook for us. My wife and I stayed at this lodge for 3 nights during our first visit in NZ. What we hoped in Marlborough was exploring great food and wines. Phil recommended and reserved great local restaurants for us every evening and drove us there as he promises in his website. Although our stay was over a weekend (Fri - Mon) when the choice of the restaurants was limited, he managed to book nice ones serving top tier food and wines. If our stay had been during a week, he would have had more choices. On top of these, what really amazed us was his breakfast. They have six hens in their back yard and each of them produces an egg every day - six fresh eggs a day. Phil cooked superb egg dishes every morning as the "main course". Eggs benedict on morning one, fluffy meringue omlet on morning two, and egg quiche on the last morning. He told us that he had six secret recipes of breakfast egg courses.
This beautiful lodge is one of a very limited number of places where we wish to stay again. And, we wish to stay from Monday through Sunday next time so that we can enjoy all of his egg recipes and more variety of local restaurants. Although my writing focuses on food and wine, the room, amenity, huge collection of movie DVDs, large relaxing back yard, etc. would never disappoint anybody.

What a delightful, welcoming and warm oasis of charm and haute cuisine! Caro and Hugh were just superb hosts in this restful retreat amongst the vines and beautiful Blenheim countryside. Lovely spacious rooms, paintings and quirky art.
A must stay if you are looking for something superb and intimate when you visit Marlborough

Booked 2 rooms (described as suites)for 3 days. Arrival greeting was a letter on the doorstep saying help yourself, owner may not be back that day! Large rooms not suites. Slippers were used. Rooms not serviced once in 3 days. Extras to be paid in Cash. Breakfast - no choice given what was going and no cereals fruits or juices. Owner not available on last morning so left a continental breakfast.

Okay we’re approaching end of season but this was not a welcoming experience and the place was cold and uninviting.

Lovely location and excellent Hosts in Caro & Hugh. Could you ask for more. The Lodge was beautiful inside and and out with nice outdoor space to relax and drink wine in the summer evening. Breakfast was delicious and we would love to return.

Best expressed as shabby chic extremely comfortable accommodation central to wineries. What makes this place unforgettable is Phil, what a wonderful host and breakfast chef. After a 3 night stay we felt that we had known Phil a lifetime, wonderfully warm person made us so very welcome and extremely generous with his wine.

Thanks for your kind thoughts. We are all ok Antria seems to have no problems coping with the odd shake. Lost a bottle of wine but we will replace. Kind regards Phil and Kathryne
