Continuing our travels around NZ we arrived at the Marlborough Lodge- Wow a impressive entrance indeed!
We were greeted by Samantha the Manager, who was delightful and told us all about the history of the lodge which is just fascinating. We stayed in the Kingfisher room which was beautiful and suited us well with all our luggage!
The only failing part was the shower pressure was not great at all, we had been spoilt by great showers before. We did tell them about the shower but it seems nothing could be done to improve this. The windows in the kingfisher room are a delight, just wish they had a blind we could shut at night over the one opposite the bathroom as made it so bright in the morning. We later met Lyndsey who was a delight as well , we had dinners included in our stay and the restaurant was lovely. The breakfast was a bit sparse of fresh fruit sadly but the dinner was good, the menu changed daily but always seemed to resemble the night before slightly. But all was presented well. But certainly not like at the Matakauri lodge in QueensTown!
But what was special was every evening before dinner they servers canapés and drinks beside the outside fire in the garden which was delightful. They have a spa and bar area which is used if rainy and cold which is also a delight.
We had a wine tour which was super and the driver we had was from the town so well versed in the local history and area.
I had a massage in the spa one day which was lovey while my husband played tennis which they kindly arranged for him.
There are free bicycles for quests to use which is nice.
We had a private wonderful boat trip around the Marlborough sound which was super the boat was amazing and the crew were so lovely. It was a shame the Weather was not great but we enjoyed our trip anyway.
We would recommend the Marlborough Lodge for sure.

My elderly mother and I were traveling together on a "bucket list" trip for her. This place exceeded our expectations. The property and rooms are beautifully designed, the gardens are lovely and the grounds are serene and spacious. The room was lovely, with every comfort thought-through, and the restaurant has a delicious menu, carefully designed to reflect seasonal/local foods and is very well executed. But it is the service that really makes the Marlborough Lodge stand out at any price. Samantha (the manager) and her crew are kind, thoughtful, attentive and when we had a need they used one of the most wonderful of phrases in the service industry: "leave it with me" which always meant: I am now taking responsibility for your request, you can stay focused on your trip and I'll take care of what needs to be done. And the best part is: they always did. I have travelled quite a bit, and lots of very highly-rated hotels could learn from the Marlborough what it takes to deliver consistent, top-level service. I don't know when I will make it back to New Zealand, but when I do, I will make a priority of staying here again.

World Class is a term often used (and abused) by reviewers to describe the merely better than average. In the case of the Marlborough Lodge, the term is entirely justified. From the moment we arrived to the final moment of departure, we were made to feel special and this extended to not only the outstanding accommodation (beautiful bedrooms, dining rooms... ) and to the food (excellent breakfasts, lunches and dinners) but it essentially comes from the service attitude of Angela and all her team who are friendly, informative, listening, responding to our needs, and thereby providing excellent service. A profound thanks to all at the Marlborough Lodge for that.
The Marlborough Lodge has a fascinating history and is situated in one of the finest private estates we have visited (worth exploring - vineyard, vegetable garden,, pool...)..and close to the Marlborough Sounds for the Queen Charlotte track and other such activities. This is a top destination.

What a fabulous hotel! This is a real gem, attention to detail in the rooms, furnishing, food, everything. We were offered a glass of wine on arrival produced in their own vineyards. Our room was stunning leading on to a balcony that ran all around the first floor. Mini bar was complimentary although nothing was mini! Stunning bathroom with freestanding bath and huge shower. Everything we needed or could have wanted. We ate in the restaurant both nights sitting on the terrace overlooking the beautifully maintained gardens. Before dinner we enjoyed complimentary cocktails in the old chapel. Breakfast the following morning was in the same venue with a great menu. Outdoor games were set and there was a heated swimming pool. The staff were very attentive and looked after us well. We had a great 2 days and cannot recommend highly enough.

Despite having emailed our food sensitivities months in advance, over our entire 5 day stay, the chef was too lazy to provide us with adequate replacements for items in their food service (example, instead of a creamy vegetable soup we were served raw grated cucumber/zucchini in a bowl). Also, we were made very ill following breakfast on Jan 1. My wife had emailed in advance asking for gluten free toast and/or cereal with almond milk as her breakfast. Sadly, the chef wasn't able to provide it until the last morning. How sad is it that a proper chef couldn't be bothered to order what had been asked and paid for, in advance. We couldn't get them to stop serving gluten cookies in our room during turndown service until the last night when we were offered a simple strawberry on a plate (ouch!) as a replacement. One single, small, lonely, solitary, sad strawberry with dirty greens still attached. We are fortunate enough to have traveled the world, and this was by far our worst experience ever. The good news is that all the servers we encountered were amazing! Lindsey, Mikaela, Florian, Paulina, and Stephanie!!! Bottom Line, I think the chef is burnt out and doesn't care, or maybe he is a sous chef and has been thrust into the role of executive chef. If you don't have any food allergies, you might be safe to stay here, but I'm guessing his attitude will spill over into regular food prep and "safe handling will become an issue". For $2,500NZ a night, would you want to stay here?

Dear TimW550 It is disappointing that you would write this review after the care and attention that was given to you and your wife and having you both assure myself and the team that all was ok at each meal service as we were very aware of your sensitivities At the first breakfast when you were taken through the items that had been bought in specially for you, your wife mentioned that she would like to use her own Gluten free bread and cereal rather than what we had bought in as she was unsure as to some of the ingredients and maybe sensitive to them. All items in our kitchen were handled with great care due to your sensitivities to the extent that the team prepped your food prior to anything other, all utensils, boards, cooking equipment etc are all sterilised prior to use as is normal and that your food was kept completely seperate so that there could be no contamination. Our Chef team are extremely proud of their food and are very diligent with their cleanliness and kitchen hygiene so to suggest our handling of food is substandard we most strongly disagree As you continued to eat with us each night of your stay and chose to have an additional lunch with us and my conversations with you I am very perplexed by your review I also note that you did not mention that on checkout you refused to pay your considerable alcohol bill because you believed that should be offset as you provided your own Gluten free bread !! If you would like to discuss further I would be very happy to do so. Please contact me on samantha@themarlboroughlodge.co.nz Samantha

We were lucky enough to have three nights at this fantastic location. The surrounding are so gorgeous that you relax driving thru the gardens. The lodge is still very central and offer fantastic location with excellent rooms, gorgeous bathrooms and an exceptional restaurant in the Harvest Restaurant which is part of the lodge. Breakfast was a buffet with cooked menu available which was to die for and everything offered was fantastic. Staff were extremely helpful and Tim the temporary manger was fantastic and really went the extra mile. Canapés and drinks in front of open fire before dinner was a treat. Recommend this lodge to anyone wanting a relaxing break away with luxury surroundings, friendly and helpful staff, gorgeous pool and gardens to wonder. Lodge is in pristine condition with everything expected at your fingertips including being in a central location.
We look forward to returning in 2021.

This is comfortably the most amazing hotel we have ever stayed at - we visited here for our honeymoon. A gorgeous heritage building set in acres of beautifully manicured grounds, it is an absolute delight to wander around the gardens. The food at the restaurant was incredible and we ended up eating there every night just to explore more of the menu. However, the best part of our stay was the staff who were so attentive, friendly and personal. The evening drinks and canapés were a highlight of our day and even when I spilt red wine on my white jumper they went out of their way to remove the stain. We cannot recommend this place enough and is worth every penny - we will be back for sure!

I have recently had the wonderful experience of dining at the Harvest restaurant of The Marlborough Lodge near Blenheim. The staff were amazing, service was impeccable and the food was outstanding! My dietary restrictions of being vegan and gluten free were accommodated without a blink of an eye. I was served a scrumptious eggplant dish that I wished would never end. The manager of the kitchen was delightful and very attentive to my dietary needs. Surrounded with gorgeous gardens and vineyards, this restaurant and lodge beckons one to stay and linger. Whether it be for a couple hours dining on Harvest’s patio or perhaps even for a few nights to discover all the Lodge has to offer. This place is a true escape!

From our arrival the whole experience of staying here was absolutely wonderful.
Rooms are luxurious (and obviously very clean and well equipped) and no distance from anything.
Canapés and aperitifs served from 6pm in the bar or garden. All delicious.
Dinner is really good, with a menu that changes daily.
Breakfast is also very good with a selection of hot dishes, a good buffet and great hot/cold drinks.
Staff were really excellent- very helpful, friendly and sociable.
Brilliantly located for local wineries and restaurants. 5 mins from Blenheim airport.

My husband and I treated ourselves to the Marlborough Boutique Hotel during our honeymoon, and it was absolutely worth it. The exceptional experience started even before we arrived, with the staff going above and beyond to help us arrange tours and transfers—even last-minute ones! The bike tour they booked for us was so much fun, and the fact that they have a helipad on-site made it easy to combine a helicopter tour and transfer to our next hotel.

When we arrived, the service was next-level. Our luggage was delivered straight to our room, we were greeted with prosecco, and they gave us a quick but thoughtful tour of the property. It was the perfect welcome. We loved the daily happy hour, where we got to mingle with other guests over drinks and hors d'oeuvres. With just 10 rooms, the hotel felt so intimate, and the personalized service really shone. Breakfast was delicious, and dinner at their restaurant was equally impressive.

The room itself was stunning—by far the largest and most luxurious of our three-week New Zealand trip. We especially loved the wines provided in-room, which were made from the Marlborough vineyard and only available on-site (either in your room or at the restaurant). The housekeeping team did a fantastic job, and the evening turndown service added to the luxury.

Marlborough Boutique Hotel really knows how to make you feel spoiled. Whether it’s the little details or the big ones like helicopter transfers, everything was perfect. This place is 10/10—we’d recommend it in a heartbeat and can’t wait to go back someday!
