Detailed Reviews
Staying in Blenheim we wandered in looking for dinner. It was simply the most wonderful experience. The staff were warm and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Dishes were crafted rather than just put on the plate and all the accompaniments were pefect and well thought out. Servings were just right - not so huge that you couldn't possibly eat it all.
Couldn't recommend it more highly. Make sure you have a drink at the beautiful bar before dining!

Wow, this place really is something else, each room has its own special decor, the service from the staff is absolutely personable and friendly, I was made to feel welcome from the minute I wakes into the place, talked to like I was part of the family and even shown around some of the vacant rooms as a nod to what the hotel offers. I had the lamb for dinner it was melt in your mouth amazing and the waiters were very attentive. I will be booking her again and bringing my partner next time so we can both enjoy this little piece of unique accomodation you won’t find anywhere else. Mind blown

Our 1-night staff at the Hotel d'Urville was a wonderful experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms are exquisitely furnished with no detail left out. Guests have their own salon where we enjoyed a complimentary port before dinner. Highly recommend. This will be an annual weekend away for us.

We stayed here on the recommendation of a friend and found the room to be very nicely done with a nautical theme, the big windows in the room and bathroom made it a bit cold though. The heater in the bedroom overcame this but the bathroom was cold. Having said that, it was really nicely appointed and the shower was great. The bed was comfy and the sofa also. The breakfast was average, nothing special, however, the bar was brilliant - very fancy and intimate. The cocktails were to die for. This place is a converted old Trust building and you could see where the old vaults were, very interesting. I would stay here again, the manager was lovely!

One thing I love about this hotel is its close proximity to shops and cafes. Very ideal for a laid back trip at Blenheim. However we were assigned to a room located at ground level wherein our window view would be next to carpark and the street so we had to keep the curtains down to ensure our privacy.
Special mention to Michelle who was very friendly throughout our stay and she had been helpful in booking our transfer to catch our early morning flight.

A great cocktail bar with a great cocktail menu, attentive staff who knew what they were doing and did it very well. We had a Bali themed room that was quirky, comfortable and clean. The freshly renovated restaurant is fabulous and classy. As a former chef, restaurant owner and food writer I rate Chef Gianni as the best in Marlborough, his food is outstanding, punching with flavour, texture and presentation. He personally presented the duck breast to our table with an explanation on the cooking process. We also shared the lamb which is slow cooked for 14 hours! Our waitress was very attentive and looked after us like royalty. Hotel manager Michelle introduced herself and gave us a tour of other renovations underway and the soon to open 'Tiki Hut' bar. With a new owner undertaking serious renovations and under Michelle's stewardship Hotel d'Urville is once again going to be 'the place to be'. Highly recommended, even only if for the cocktail bar and restaurant but a comfortable stay as well. We'll be back!

We stayed two nights on our trip south to Christchurch and one night on our way back to the North Island before catching the Ferry. Hotel d’Urville is a perfect place for a stopover located conveniently at the town centre with car parking nearby. My wife and I decided not to go out on the first evening and we had the best time. We began with delicious cocktails at the Bamboo Tiger Jazz and Cocktail Bar. Pre-dinner drinks created by a skilled mixologist was a great fun way to start before visiting Mollies Eatery in an adjacent room of this historic building. The food was exceptional along with selection of local wines, and the customer service provided by our waiter was outstanding. The rooms are comfortable, continental breakfasts plentiful, staff friendly, and the complimentary glass of port offered to guests at the end of the evening is a nice touch. The whole experience from cocktail bar to Mollies Eatery to the enjoyable stay make this hotel an ideal place to stop and unwind for a day or two while exploring Blenheim.

Great location in Blenheim. The cocktail bar is great and Max is a magician, whipping up drinks depending on your likes and dislikes. Emma-Louise is great fun and really efficient. Mollies Eatery served excellent food and wines . We were in a group of 4 couples - two of the couples had rooms with a large queen bed and a single bed . Unfortunately having the single bed in the room made access and moving around the room very difficult. If I stayed as couple again I was specifically ask that we have a room only with one king/queen bed. We were amazed to find that a complimentary decanter of port was supplied to the corridor outside our rooms every day. Nice touch!

Well located in the centre of Blenheim, and characterful with huge thick doors (it was originally the town's Depository), the d'Urville isn't quite as good as the pictures suggest.
The upper floor is cluttered with ornaments & furnishings & the bedrooms similarly crowded. Our four-poster bed creaked anytime we moved, as well.
All credit to the manageress, though. She is industrious, hard working & friendly.

It is evident the owners are trying to make this unique hotel something special, but they have a long way to go. This is an old, converted bank with no elevator, and we had to carry our heavy bags (16 days of travel in NZ) up the stairs—very inconvenient. Once we got into the room, there was a strange odor in the room, like a paint thinner or nail polish remover smell. It was overwhelming when you first walked in. The shower flooded the entire bathroom floor, making it dangerous to walk around in the tight quarters safely. The breakfast was minimal at best. In fact, we went across the street to the pastry shop for proper coffee and pastries.
The location was not ideal and we wish that we had stayed on the outskirts of downtown or at a winery B&B.
