Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very basic, slightly grubby, dated decor, poor wifi connection and uncomfortable beds. However, when you consider the low price for longer term stays compared with other backpackers, the plentiful ensuites and the decent security, I think the rest is acceptable. My main complaint is their lack of noise regulation, as other guests were still noisly partying in a nearby common area until 2am the morning that I stayed.

They have a private bathroom in every room that is much appreciated. Common kitchen, and a good cleaning staff. The WiFi is bad, only 1gb per week. Anyway, very good for working holidays or young backpackers, if you like party during weekends.

We made a three night email booking which was a big mistake. The freshly painted hotel exterior hides the hovel like interior conditions. Room fittings are broken or non existent, with holes either kicked or punched in room doors and a terrible smell pervading the corridor carpets (perhaps water seppage?)
It only proceeded to get worst, on finding a person sleeping on the corridor floor on the Sunday morning, perhaps a common practice there.
On returning to Oz, I have found that although I was given an email quote of NZ $70 per night I was charged $80 per night. The hotel owner has also failed to respond to my email on this matter.
In closing this hotel reflects poorly on Blenheim and New Zealand.

it was cheap but clean and I'd stay often. However noticed it was going downhill and its now disgusting which is a shame as it has so much potential (seriously if you have some money a bit of a DIY'er consider purchasing this hotel and get it up and going again!).

First no one was manning the office so went through to the bar - felt uncomfortable as owner informed me 'she is there' and lead me back through and she had appeared. While checking in I tried to make conversation but was ignored and received no smile or even a thank you. I queried the cost (as advertised cheaper in print and I have always been charged the same). Sadly I was informed with a look that could kill that they've never charged anyone that. Left and carried on calling on my clients.

Went back at night. First the TV didn't work - rang downstairs where the call was finally answered in an unfriendly tone and told that the TV was disconnected the day before.

Second the kitchen area (which was never flash anyway but had a microwave and that's all I need) had its door roughly nailed shut. Popped down stairs to bar and asked nicely if they could heat my tea. Tried to have a conversation with the manager (who interesting enough was running for council) with no luck there either.

Laundry has a sign indicating its open certain hours - it wasn't. By this stage I felt so uncomfortable I decided to hang my clothes for the crinkles to come out.

At this stage I could have left but I dislike drama and hassle so stayed.

Pulled bed out to plug in phone. The dirt and dust was dreadful. The bathroom was gross with 'hairs' from certain parts of the body on the floor, . Dust over all areas including the mirror, shelves and window sill. So much so I could write in it! Advertised there is central heating - don't know how that works and I was on the cold side of the building so room was cold. No electric blanket.

Overall, I do not recommend you stay here. Spend an extra few dollars and stay somewhere else.

Stayed here on the 27th Dec as we try to stay in country pubs when we can, asked for a twin room and it was not good.We pointed out to the receptionist that one of the reading lights above the bed did not work and her response was"it,s been like that for 3 months"we looked at other rooms but they were even worse,as it was getting late we settled for the room with the broken light,a bathroom fan that did not work,a door that looked like it had been kicked in and generally tired and uncared for.Be Warned!

The recent good reviews in 2015 are probably bias, as this hostel (ex hotel) offered discount to long term guests if they leave a favourable reviews on TripAdvisor.

Reviews that are older in 2013 still holds true, it is still pretty runned down when we stayed in Aug 2015. It really needs a good make over. it could have given a cool vintage vibe if it had been well taken care of. We found hotel radio from previous century in the rooms. It just need some tender loving care to the building.

Nevertheless, the location is in the middle of the town and the price is pretty cheap. Friendly manager at check in and help us with enquiries. However, do check out other hostels before you had to book for this one.

After one night, we moved to the lodging at top 10 holiday park which are in better conditions.

The room was very old and worn and clearly not looked after. The kitchen was gross unclean and messy, we were too disgusted to even make a cup of tea in there. Only positive thing was service (and price of the room).
Can't recommend.

I am going to show you some pics that perhaps are going to help me to describe the status of degradation of this place.
1) If you are a backpacker who is going to be in blenheim for work , I strongly raccomend you to look for a room in a shared house as it is cheaper and much cleaner.
DO NOT PREPAID FOR A WEEK HERE EVEN IF CHEAPER AS THEY DO NOT REFUND YOU THE MONEY IF YOU WANT TO STAY A SHORTER TIME.( THIS IS SUPER MEAN AND THERE WASN'T ANY BROKER INVOLVED SUCH AS BOOKING OR HOSTELSWORDS )

I stayed here for a few weeks. It's a clean and quiet hostel in the town centre. It's close to the supermarkets and shops in Blenheim. The kitchen is clean and tidy. The rooms are a bit old, but nice. You have the bathroom in your room, so you don't have to share it with everyone in the hostel. There is a washing machine you can use for free and you get 1GB Internet for one week.
