Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
Out of very little option in the area this worked out well for us. Accommodation was spacious and comfortable, well equipped including fridge/freezer. Plenty of storage. We paid for continental breakfast which was in the fridge on arrival and was fresh and tasty. We actually only booked for 3 as the 2 year old didn’t use a bed (travel cot) but they did provide an extra breakfast. We ate in the pub and that was fine, food above average for a place like this in the middle of nowhere. The wine list was dominated by Roaring Meg wine. Very impressive.

Paid $39 for a pathetic small ribeye steak - which luckily was delicious, but come with the smallest handful of chips! Definitely not worth $39, it couldn’t even fill half the plate up. All of there meals are too overpriced for the amount of food that actually comes out on the plate. Disappointing, left still hungry

Not the cleanest room, but comfortable and quiet with all the amenities I needed on a cold night (hot shower, space heater, heating blanket) and sufficient Wi-Fi for checking email. Friendly staff. Easy access to Mt. Cook. I arrived too late to try the restaurant — next time!

We were 2 guys biking the A2O. The pub itself has great staff, beer selection and food with plenty of tables including pool tables. Our accommodation room was comfortable, clean with good pressure and hot water in the shower. There's a fridge toaster and hot water jug available. Great value for money. The hotel also can organise apartment accommodation adjacent to the hotel

Impressed with the service we got from all staff, even though could tell they tired from being understaffed. They fitted us in for an unbooked late lunch. All three of us had the pork spare ribs. we though the price was fair for the meal, and it was nice. only comment would prefer the chips away from the sauce - too much sauce on them made them soggy.

If you value your sleep, don't book here. We stayed 4 nights and every night had loud music. It would probably be good for them to mention on the website that the rooms are in the same building as the pub and the pub plays loud music until at least midnight. 4 nights of almost no sleep, even with earplugs and noise cancelling headphones, not the relaxing holiday we were after. Other than that the rooms are outdated, not clean and the food in the pub is average at best.

Never felt so unwelcome in a place in all my life . Was booked in here as part of cycle tour and it was the low point of our trip. Arrived at 12pm after 40km ride and after lining up at the bar 15 minutes behind all the local day drinkers ( no motel reception) was aggressively told there is no way I can check in early before 2pm. Mentioning that we had a hard ride, was travelling with child and other motels had been able to let us check in a bit early set the female manager off- she had 16 year olds working their butts off to clean and how dare I ask to check in early when they had been up late over New Years, how dare I compare her to other motels on the trip, that 2pm was the world standard for check in etc etc ..there was no stopping her diatribe. A simple ‘so sorry but we just can’t ‘ would have been more than fine ! I know 2pm is check in time!! We ordered lunch then proceed to wait nearly 40 minutes. Went inside after waiting for ages and saw it sitting there uncollected so picked it up and took it outside . Well the manager didn’t like that and came outside and started going off at me again - to the point I had to plead with her to leave me in peace and go away. The food was very average and we left half of it. Her husband then came out and repeated same things as his wife and because I disagreed that I had done anything wrong, he decided to ring the cycle company to try and cancel our booking and leave us homeless for the night unless we apologised . I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be apologising for ? Being yelled at by an unhinged woman ? Was so stressful and the most horrible experience I have ever had in 35 years travelling the globe. A big call , but true. If the cycle tour books you here- change it! I would have done the cycle to Kurow had I known how I would be treated. The town itself is not very interesting so it is no loss. The only good thing is a nice natural ice-cream place & coffee van up the road.…

Apartments were beautiful and tidy - everything was basically new and staff were lovely. Apartments were large with enough room for dining, lounge, full mini kitchen, separate bedroom and ensuite. We ate at the bar and the staff were lovely - made it feel like home. Food was delicious and the chef did and amazing job given they were all by themselves. As we were on A2O trail they also provided breakfast which was delicious and very generous. There was a small accident with dinner and my vege burger didn't quite make it but the staff gave an alternative and even discounted drinks which was much more generous than necessary. Great barman and waitress made our night and we are sorry we didn't get your names!

Great stopping point on the A2O. Our unit was newly renovated, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well-appointed, although we didn't use it because the local convenience store carried very little in the way of cook it yourself food. Instead we had dinner in the pub, which was great. Friendly staff and good meals. The slow cooked lamb was delicious.
