What an amazing place!! Our cottage was new, very well equipped, quite large and beautifully decorated. The Nokomia Valley Lodge is located on a 97,000 acre sheep and cattle ranch. It is surrounded by beautiful foothill mountains with a river. The views are stunning in all directions.
The staff and owners are so genuinely pleasant and so accommodating. The meals are homemade and delicious.
We spent 2 days fly fishing for brown trout with a wonderful guide, Graeme Watson who I also highly recommend.

Thanks so much for a wonderful stay!!!
Accommodation, food and service were all outstanding. A great spot for a 25th Wedding Anniversary.
Plenty to do: relaxing, walking, fishing, watching farm activities, enjoying the history of the area.
Close to Queenstown and Invercargill, so an easy 1-1.5hr drive.
Fairly pricey, but you won’t regret it.

We have just had 2 nights at this peaceful beautiful place. A great place to rest and rejuvenate. It has been closed for 4 years due to covid but is now open again and well worth a visit only an hours drive from Queenstown. We were very well looked after by Nicole and Glen and we look forward to going back again soon.

If your looking for a authentic farm experience in New Zealand, Nokomai Station is the place to stay. We loved our visit there, and the hospitality we received from the owners. The farm itself is beautiful with over 90,000 acres, 50,000 sheep, and a pretty river filled with brown trout. The accommodation is in a 1 or 2 bd new cottage next to the original stone house which now houses the kitchen and dining area, where we enjoyed delicious home cooked meals by the owners wife, and pleasant conversation with the locals. The apt. had all the comforts of home, excellent washer/dryers, even a movie channel on TV. The location is nice too because it's an hour from Queenstown, and an hour from Te Anau and the fjords, and what a contrast with Queenstown. I guess it's like what all of New Zealand use to be. You can watch the workings of the farm, we saw dogs herding the sheep from one pasture to another, and saw them being sheared. Or you can take a helicopter flight, horse ride, or what they're well known for is fishing. We're so glad we stayed there, it made our trip complete, just wish I had gotten her recipe for pavlova.

I've been fishing in NZ South Island yearly since 1991 and have stayed in a large variety of backcountry huts, motels, B+B's, tents and lodges but my recent stay at Nokomai Station this month was one of the most memorable ever. I think it's certainly amongst the most beautiful places I've ever stayed in and the hospitality from Ann and her husband and the amazing Louise who runs the accomodation is faultless. Her cooking confirms her past professional chef status and they can't do enough for you. If you want to fish the Mataura, Oreti, Whitestone and many more rivers around then book one of the excellent guides for whatever number of days you want and if with a non fishing partner then they will enjoy the many other options available to them too. I haven't a single criticism of the entire operation and will return. Well Done.

We stayed for 3 nights. We wanted a place to relax and unwind - far away from the crowds. This station is the perfect get away. The cottages are large, comfortable and fully equipped (washer, dryer,tv, Internet). We choose to have lunches and dinners catered by the station. Louise's meals are fantastic and the portions more then generous. You will not go hungry. We arranged a half day of trout fishing. We are fly fishing beginners but with our guide Len's exceptional lesson we caught several brown trout. I highly recommend giving it a try. Spent a half day trekking up the river creek and the scenery was magnificent. There are lots of activities that we did not have a chance to try -biking, horseback trekking etc... We spent 3 weeks driving around the South Island and this spot was a highlight.

Fresh flowers were awaiting my groom and I when we arrived in our cottage and that was the beginning of what turned into 2 memorable days of luxury in the country. Ann, Anna and Louise prepared delicious, man-size portions for the breakfasts and dinners. Hearty lunches were packed for the fishermen and even one for me! They have an outstanding collection of New Zealand and Australian wines to compliment dinner.

We came to Nokomai Station so my groom could fish with a guide and catch some of the famed New Zealand trout. He fished 1 of our 2 days and we both wished we could have stayed longer for him to fish a second and maybe a third day. The fish are catch and release and photos show he caught some real beauties. The cottages are fully equipped with kitchen, living room, tv, free wifi, washer & dryer, comfortable bed, and an upgraded bathroom. The bad news was we only booked 2 nights, so we reluctantly moved on with our NZ travels.

Best highlight of our totally great New Zealand trip and that is saying a lot as the whole trip was great. We were traveling with another couple and did not know what to expect but assumed Nokomai would be good and it far surpassed that.
The cabins are very roomy and well equipped if you want to fix your own meals but you would be missing a very good part of the stay if you did. The owner, Anne, and her assistant fixed really great dinners and had some very nice wine to go with them. We had lamb, salmon, beef, and some very nice vegetables finished off with really nice deserts.
The guys fished for 2 and a half days while the ladies hiked and rode horses. With 97,000 acres on the ranch to roam you won't run out of hiking places. The Matatauri River runs through the station for 22 miles so plenty of water to try your hand at technical fly fishing. Make sure you take a guide if fishing or you will waste a lot of time. There are big Brown trout in the river and they are selective.
Our one regret is not booking a helicopter ride over the station. The station uses them for working the vast ranch and keeping track of the sheep and cattle.

Do NOT miss a chance to stay at Nokomai Station. It's far and away the best place we stayed on the South Island of New Zealand. The location is an easy drive from Queenstown or Te Anau and it's so well set up that you never have to leave once you get there. (Bring plenty of groceries if you are cooking for yourself) The lodging is in stand alone modern cabins that were perfectly appointed. They have kitchens and even a washer dryer right in your room. If you don't want to cook Ann Hore and her staff serve really top notch food. We are still talking about the dinner we had there.

They have sheep galore and you get to watch the dogs work. Tons of spectacular hikes are right out your door. We used their mountain bikes to explore the valley and they have a really big section of the Mataura river on thier property. We caught some nice browns flyfishing on our own, but they also can hook you up with a local guide.

Finally, you are not going to find a nicer and more generous host than Ann. She made our stay so much more enjoyable. A+ all around.
