Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great option for visitors to Okain's Bay or Akaroa, this homestead is beautifully landscaped and has a rich and interesting history. A friendly and warm family home, with comfortable rooms and sumptuous beds, good home-style meals and interesting dinnertime conversation about the fascinating local history. Judy and Kerry are lovely hosts and helpful with suggestions on local attractions.

We were a group of 6 people stayed in Self catering cottage during autumn. The cottage was well equipped except a breakdown kitchen hood. However, because of the smelly and smoky food cook, it turned to a nice experience. We shut down all light (preventing insect to fly inside the cottage) and open all common room area's widows and doors (for air ventilation) together with a fireplace and nice music from the radio with glasses of wine. It's one of great experience in our NZ trip. There is only 1 bathroom and separated toilet, so we need to manage a little for our group but we were ok. One of our group had a problem with bed (too soft), so he managed to sleep on the floors but the others were fine. The farm is so big and has trekking route with nice scenic and sheep everywhere. Karen, our host, was very nice and provided good information to explore the area. She allowed us to feed animals including sheep, pig, and donkey. Very cute animals. It was awesome experience but too short for 1 night stay.

We first visited Kawatea in 2007 and we were delighted that our second visit lived up to our memory of this beautiful home. Judy and Kerry are lovely hosts. Accommodation was exceptionally comfortable and the breakfasts better than restaurant quality! Thank you.

Our 2 boys enjoyed feeding sheeps and playing around the house. The room we stayed at was very clean and comfortable. The hosts were so accommodating and friendly. The cooked breakfast was yummy too! Qe went down the okains Bay for a play and a dip on the beach. Thank you!

This is the second year we have stayed in this lovely Victorian near Okains Bay where our children camped. It is perfectly appointed and private with a great social breakfast and time to catch up with the hosts.

As this was our first time to New Zealand we didn't know what to expect of places and surroundings. When we arrived Judy and Kerry greeted us and showed us our accommodation. Judy showed us a living area that we could use but as Judy and Kerry were so hospitable we chose to sit after dinner and chat with them. They are so knowledgeable about the area and all of New Zealand for that matter. We could walk anywhere we liked around their farmland and also got to feed their pet sheep. We didn't get to see their Son Adam sheer the sheep as we were away from the farm at the time he was sheering but Kerry had organised with Adam for us to go and see him sheering. A bit unfortunate that we were away at the time. The food that Judy cooked was amazing and she went out of her way to cook different fish for myself as I had not tried before what she was cooking for the night. We were also given a choice of cooked breakfast as well as being able have cereal & fruit too. The farm is not far from the beach and also there is a local museum at the bay which is very interesting to visit. Judy & Kerry are the perfect hosts, most welcoming and willing to help where ever they can, such beautiful people. I would recommend this farm stay to friends and family if they were visiting the area. Debra & Gareth Western Australia

We were lucky to get the room above the garage with its own little balcony and private entrance. Judy was very helpful in everything from arranging a variety of breakfast goodies for our two year old to helping us choose to see the places to go in Akaroa. We stayed for two night honestly because we didn't get anything closer to Akaroa but we ended up enjoying ourselves completely. Especially for our daughter who totally loved all the sheep and the huge garden. The Wifi was an issue since it was available only in the main house but well some times it's worth unplugging (or so we told ourselves). Kerry even ended up convincing us to visit Doubtful Sound by showing pictures of their trip and emphasizing the must see experience of being there. The room was comfy and we had everything we could ask for even though the the bathroom was a little tight and we had to make the journey down to fetch stuff from the ref. But all said looking at all the stars in the sky in a clear sky with a glass of wine was a truly unforgettable experience.

The house is gorgeous and our party of 7 had 3 of the rooms over New Year. Judy and Kerry are wonderful hosts, interesting people and nothing is too much trouble. We loved our stay there. The family were there for new Year and were so friendly. Judy cooked dinner for us on New Year's Eve and they both joined us at the end of the evening. Great breakfasts as well, freshly cooked. Staying here with our friends and being made so welcome by the Thacker family was one of the best experiences of our holiday.

Judy was extremely kind. She offered us tea and coffee. She brought my brother, sis and me.We got to feed her sheep bread. The attic and the room was really comfortable. The breakfast was really good , if you order the scrambled eggs with bacon that will be really good. My parents thought that it was a worthy pick. We had an enjoyable farm stay

My family and I stayed here for 2 nights. This was our first stop in New Zealand. The farm-stay is located not too far away from town, and is rather convenient. We visited in summer, and had the opportunity to catch the sheep shearing. Our hosts, Kerry and Judy, along with their son, Adam, ran the whole farm and Bed and Breakfast on their own. They are a very pleasant and friendly family. The rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast was rather substantial. The house is also a historic house and is located on a hill, overlooking a beautiful valley, providing breathtaking views. We enjoyed the hospitality of Kerry, Judy and Adam a lot, and are ready to go back anytime soon. The only downside of this Bed and Breakfast is that guests have to share a common bathroom if you do not book a suite room (which has its own bathroom) and that there is no wifi. Other than that, this is a great place to stay.
