I only stayed one night and the room worked well for that. Cleaning was only to a very basic standard, judging from the dust on the top of the switch/plugs and the state of one cup. Shower was okay. Spare towels and blanket in cupboard. Once the sirens died down I had a peaceful night [East side of building]. Small double bed, but adequate for one. Good sized room. Location worked well. Security to use lift.

Stayed there for 6 days. Very well priced and excellent location, but extremely noisy on the Friday and Saturday nights. They have a good Garden Bar Restaurant next door but that is where the noise comes from. And it is bad, we could not sleep! There were 4 of us and while the apartment was small, it was excellent value and close to the CBD and some very good cafe’s! We picked up a rental car on the second last day and while parking is difficult in Wellington we were about to park it overnight in the street for free.

Pros: very convenient, functional apartments. Clean, well maintained.

Cons:
Terrible and stingy wifi (you get given one week's access, even if you're staying for a month. So slow it won't load Web pages in the evening).
Rooms are either boiling hot or cold - no heating or air con, people leave their room doors open even in autumn to try and get air flow!
Rooms are noisy. Really poor single glazed windows so all the street and bar noise comes in and when it's windy it makes a howling noise!
Service is friendly but very inflexible, eg with WiFi.

This would be a very good value stay were it not for the fact that the owner has a disco which pumps out megadecibel noise until midnight. Without aircon you can close the windows and fry or open them and forget sleep.

We were spending two weeks in Wellington and had initially booked a holiday home in Ngaio. However, when the owner cancelled on us with very little notice, I was extremely lucky to find the Southern Cross Apartment Hotel - for less money than the holiday home! We had a two bedroom apartment which adequately met the needs of our family of four. The apartment was basic, but spacious enough and clean. For the location, I think it's the best deal in the city! We were steps from Cuba street and all its wonderful coffee and food. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go. We did experience some street noise late on weekend nights, but nothing that woke the kids, and that's what's important. All in all, very highly recommended.

I stayed here with my husband and son whilst visiting for the cricket at the basin. We had travelled from the Hawkes Bay and arrived late.I was very tired and went to bed only to find I was being eaten alive by bed bugs.My husband stripped all the beds to find bugs in all of them.We got in touch with the duty manager who came and proceeded to get a sample of the bugs in a jam jar.She found us alternative rooms in the building and by this time it was 1.30am.This room was no more than a student flat.I would not get into a bed and slept on a two seater sofa.We have had no apology from management. This ruined what should have been a good stay.

Response from sxapts, Front Office Manager at Southern Cross Serviced Apartments
Responded 8 May 2013
Thank you for your feedback. We were disappointed by this very unfortunate incident as we have had a preventative maintenance programme in place for some time. When we addressed your issue our pest control expert did advise us that due to the hot temperatures and long summer days in Wellington these factors had caused a problem for many service providers in our region. Although we did move you into another room quickly and issued a full refund, we are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our service and would hope you will visit us again in the future.

Maybe we were unlucky with our choice of day as the staff Xmas party was on which meant that we only could get one key. This meant that we couldn't get in to the building separately which was quite annoying, The apartment was also very cold and noisy from the bar downstairs so sleeping was difficult. It was also very annoying how you had to clean the place from top to bottom when leaving. I think a hotel would have been better as the cooking facilities were poor anyway which meant you lost the benefit of the apartment!

We stayed here for one night this month and were incredibly impressed. The room was modern, clean & very large for a studio unit. It also had a full kitchen and as we were on a higher floor, the view was great. And this was for less than $100 nzd per night!

The location couldnt have been better, just off Cuba Street where there were some great shops & cafes. We were also next door to a bar/restaurant also called Southern Cross which was lovely. The food and drinks were supurb, and they had games such as 'guess who', 'connect 4' and 'boggle" on the tables which was a quirky and entertaining touch.

Unfortunately the complex didnt have car parking, however there was metered street parking out the front.

I will definitely stay here again when we return to Wellington.

This is no more than a third world boarding house. Dirty, noisy, tired and ill equiped rooms. The advertising is very misleading. Our room was above a pub which had drunk yobbos going on all night. The passage ways stunk of curry, we were told we had a queen bed but it was a tiny double. If you want an expensive backpackers book here.

Unit not clean - had to ask receptionist to clean blinds as they were filthy.
NO car parking - seriously! Had to park on the street and pay city parking rates. Busy streets so had to park next block up and carry bags back and forth.
Kitchen extremely tiny and old and not up to scratch.
Unit very small.
Located in a noisy dirty area of Wellington.
No adjustable air con so had to leave windows open but so noisy outside.
Worst Christmas for us and our kids ever. Depressing.
Very slow internet and only accessible on one device.
Asked for our money back so we could move and have a nice place for Christmas but told no.

Do you have portacots available?
Answer from AbelTasman
Wellington, New Zealand
There are several options for transport from the airport: The airport bus (the airport flyer) is $9.00/person and will drop you off at manners street, about a 10 min walk away. You can also shuttle, rates will vary depending on how many people you book but you will be dropped at the door. Options include Super Shuttle or Wellington Combined Shuttles both of which can provide instant quotes online. There is a large taxi stand at the airport also and depending on traffic is a 15 min ride to the apartments which cost approximately $30-$40.
