Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in the two bedroom suite which was excellent for our adult family. Great beds, great lounge area and really good facilities if you wanted to cook for yourself on a longer stay. Having two bathrooms worked really well. The buffet breakfasts are consistently good.

The Bolton was a mixed experience for us. Our room on the 13th floor was very large with a nice tub, washing machine and small kitchenette. We thought the decor was nice (although the wallpaper was peeling). A couple things weren't ideal. Although we had a small kitchenette, the only thing provided to cook in was a single pot. A pan would've been more useful. There were no notes saying more cookware was available, so we just used the microwave. Usually when you check in to a hotel, they ask if you've visited before and if not, they welcome you and let you know about the features and amenities of the hotel. However, when we checked in, we were just handed a key and told where the elevators were. One other thing that surprised me is that there's apparently no outgoing mail drop. I had some postcards to mail and asked the concierge where the outgoing mail should go and he explained to me that I would have to walk a few blocks down the road to find a place. I was really surprised that I couldn't mail directly from the hotel and I guess I showed it because he said, "Oh, I guess I could mail them for you." (Which I did appreciate). I chose the Bolton for the location and the fact that I could get a room with a washing machine. If that was available at a different property, I might choose somewhere else next time.

Good Morning, Many thanks for your review, I'm sorry to hear there were a few issues during your stay. Our team are always on the end of the phone to provide extra amenities, we currently list this in the digital compendium and are working on improving our in-room ipads to allow our guests to order amenities and utensils from the ipad. It is our standard practice to explain the hotel amenities at check-in on a guest's first visit so I'm sorry to hear this wasn't the case on this occasion. While the hotel doesn't have a mail drop, it is our standard practice for our concierge to post items on our guest's behalf. We are training new concierge so please accept our apologies that our concierge didn't offer this immediately. Warm regards, Paul

The Bolton hotel is most probably one of the most comfortable hotels we have stayed in and we have stayed in a few. Bath tea for the bath and little extras in the bathroom. Soft carpets for bare feet. Comfortable lounges. Food is fantastic in the restaurant. We could find no fault with it and we love our food and critique hard😊. Restaurant staff very friendly and helpful. Valet parking excellent. Close to down town Wellington.

We stayed with friends in 2 x One Bedroom Suites which were lovely. Very well appointed although one looked out over countryside while the other overlooked a building site so it may be worth requesting a room with a nice view! I guaranteed the rooms with my credit card and on arrival we gave two credit cards and requested that payment was taken separately for each room which we were assured would be. On checking out the gentleman assured us that we would be paying separately but a couple of days later both rooms had been billed to my credit card. Not usually a problem but we were on a 6 week holiday and we needed to keep within our credit limit. The hotel was very unhelpful which is a shame as up to that point we had really enjoyed our stay. I think there was a lack of staff training and this needs addressing.

Good Morning Janet, Many thanks for your review, it's wonderful to hear that you and your friends enjoyed your recent stay. Please accept our apologies for the mix-up regarding payment. This should not have happened and day to day, the hotel processes several payments with varying requests and payment types with no issues. We are addressing how this mix-up occurred and are also in the process of updating our entire system to ensure such an issue doesn't occur again. Warm regards, Paul

Reception was excellent; everyone was pleasant, respectful and attentive. The bar/lounge selection was just right for our group. Also had several desserts which were quite delicious. Service overall was good. The showers were terrific!

Great large hotel in the heart of the business district. Great staff. Parking is expensive ($40) but it is in the downtown area. Great hotel for business, not as good if you are motoring your way around NZ, although it is close to the ferry. I was traveling by car, there was no kitchen in my room, only a fridge. Nice view though.

Nice place to stay. Contemporary style with nice restaurant/bar area. Our stay included a delicious buffet breakfast. We did the foodie/wine tour which included chocolatier, a coffee roastery where we roasted our own beans and ended with an amazing Italian lunch. We took an easy walk to the wharf for lunch and dinner and will include reviews of those spots. Make sure to take the cable car to the top of for gorgeous views and then follow the path through the botanical gardens and very old cemetery (1800s) which ends at the base of the Bolton hotel.

We stayed here towards the end of our tour of New Zealand. Our room wasn't ready (we were early) so we enjoyed a very nice lunch on the first floor. Our room was like a small apartment with a kitchen/lounge area and washing machine. It was all very smart and comfortable with a lovely spacious bathroom. Recommended!

What a lovely hotel. Suite was very large and had everything needed from washing machine to dishwasher, cafetière, and spotlessly clean. What makes this hotel however is the staff who are without exception friendly and helpful. The hotel has a really nice vibe and would stay here again without hesitation.
