Nestled in the heart of Wellington, the Sofitel Wellington Hotel garners praise for its central location, making it a convenient base for city exploration. The hotel's atmosphere, with its stylish and modern decor, is popular among guests, although a few yearn for more personal touches.
While many travelers are impressed with the clean, spacious rooms and the well-equipped gym, some guests have called out inconsistencies in housekeeping and service. Opinions on value are divided, with some guests finding the experience worth the cost and others questioning the price of extras.

we have stayed here numbers of times over the years. This time to the credit of the staff that we even accidentally paid too much, as with our corporate membership we are entitled to free breakfasts for two rooms and I did not realise that. They created this back to our account and explained it for future stays. the restaurant is great, the location is easy getting around in WELLINGTON, and the beds are the typical sofa towel soft, delicious comfort. Paw is the best coffee maker in town. Thanks Team for another great stay.

Ambience Ambience at Sofitel Wellington exudes an elegant sophistication befitting of modern luxury. The combination of natural light, marble floor tiles, black panelled walls, and plush lounge chairs in cream, brown, and green, appear attractive and comfortable. The open reception appears welcoming and accessible, though the corridors are dark and narrow.
Room Rooms at Sofitel Wellington are clean, comfortable, and cozy. I stayed at the Superior Room, which features the signature Sofitel 'MyBed', designed to elevate sleep to luxurious heights with its exceptional comfort. The modern bathroom with rain shower, resplendent with white marble and gold lamp finishes, is stocked with French amenities. The in-room wifi is fast and stable, but the smart cable television only has a small amount of channels, though the Bose sound system has good clarity.
Food Food at Sofitel Wellington is served at the French restaurant Jardin Grill. The kitchen takes pride in serving well-executed, exquisite dishes, everything I had here was excellent. Ingredients are fresh, and dishes made to order with just a short wait. The limited seating means the restaurant tends to be fully booked, and advance reservations are recommended.
Service Service at Sofitel Wellington is professional and efficient, attentive and welcoming. Guests are promptly accorded attention, with tasks carried out quickly. Housekeeping is hardworking and keeps the place clean. Kudos to Yu Ting and Christian for being so accomodating with requests, and for making each interaction pleasant!
Facilities & Activities The facilities and activities at Sofitel Wellington is generally pitched at business travellers, with good meeting room facilities and equipment, and plenty of foyer space for networking. Their location in the city centre helps as well, as does the business-esque French dining at the restaurant. Noticed plenty of meetings going on here. Also love how their location is within 30 minutes or less walking distance from the majority of attractions in Wellington.

We had a good stay at the Sofitel in Wellington. The hotel is a bit of a way from the busy spots such as Courtney Place and Cuba Street, but we didn’t mind walking so that was fine.
The valet was very helpful on arrival with taking our luggage to the room and parking our car - the only negative was that we weren’t told a price (so was a bit shocked to find out on checkout that it was $55 a night).
The room was spacious and comfortable, and the bed was very plush - we both slept great. Main gripe is that the bathroom was massive and had no heating, so it was freezing cold at all times.
The breakfast buffet was great quality, a good range and selection, and the pastry selection was also good (even if some of the items could have been cooked a little longer).
This is very typical of an international chain hotel. It’s good quality but very little personal service and the decor is a bit dated.

Back in April 2022 we stayed at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour which unfortunately was a less than five star wxperience. At the time we mentioned that we were going to stay at the Sofitel Wellington and it would be an interesting comparison.
The Sofitel ellington is a classy hotel with speedy and friendly check in at the side of a comfortable lounge area. The room, although not large was very comfortable with a king bed, a TV which was positioned so that you could sit and watch it. The room was clean, nicely decorated and well maintained. The bathroom had all the necessary amenities
Breakfast was served in the Jardin Grill and was a combination of buffet style and cooked to order. All nicely presented and cooked to perfection. In the evening after drinks at the stylish house bar we had dinner at the Jardin Grill which was very enjoyable.
We enjoyed our stay and it was no contest the Sofitel Wellington is the winner by far.

On the plus side: A great location on the terrace. Staff were friendly and the hotel overall is well presented including the room
On the negative: The room wasn't as per the photos on the website. I only booked a classic room but still. The website room photos had a an alcove built in with two chairs. Mine did not. That alcove is why I booked the room. So a little disappointed on that front. The room felt claustrophobic and I was put on the worst side of the hotel facing the back-end of other buildings. Next time I will call and book rather than do it over the phone. Trying to get staff on the phone from my room proved extremely difficult. On the first night I gave up. The second night it took three separate calls before someone answered. The room needed some attention to minor details such as dust. When you are paying nearly $400 a night you expect excellent standards.
This is suppose to be 4 - 5 stars. Felt like 3 ish
The biggest test is would I stay here again? Not with a classic room. Perhaps if I upgraded to a suite but only after getting assurance from the reception staff of where the room was to be located

absolutely beautiful room we had a king size overlooking the gardens. The rooms are luxurious and classy. Everything you need is here. Nespresso coffee machine, kettle fridge safe iron and board, dressing gowns. The drive/entrance to the hotel is a bit if a challenge with a narrow circular walled entrance on a steep hill! It’s a great location and near all attractions and loads of restaurants etc. although it is a steep short walk up hill from The centre. Only negative is one side of the bed has no power or light switches. There is a lamp but the switch is difficult to reach in the middle of the night. WiFi is good. We used valet parking at $55 pn which had increased from the $40 we had read. Staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a note in the room to say they were experiencing staff issues with Food and Beverage and this was very obvious on our fourth morning where staff struggled to keep up. It was chaotic with wrong orders being delivered or not at all. It was a shame as all the staff were very young and no one in a senior position to direct the young staff how to cope more efficiently. The breakfast service is the only reason for not giving five stars.

I stayed for 2 nights at the Sofitel Wellington. In some ways it was very good. In others, less so. Overall it was a good hotel.
Getting to the Sofitel from Wellington Airport is interesting. Presumably a combination of one ways, roadworks and traffic resulted in my Uber/taxi taking me on an interesting route. All in all it was fine, about 30mins from airport to hotel.
Checking was brisk and straightforward. The room was fine. A very comfortable bed made all the difference. In general the room was a bit snug but for one person it was adequate. While I did not dine in the hotel restaurant,it seemed busy so I must assume it’s good.
Locations wise it is great for central Wellington, Parliament etc.
My only complaint about the hotel was not actually the hotel, but its laundry service. As with most hotels, they outsource - which is fine. The issues I had were late return of laundry (morning of departure versus night before) and in correctly laundered items (hung shirts versus folded). The laundry came back on hangars or folded in a paper bag. Neither of these were not the hotel fault. This may sound like 1st world problems but that’s the point of staying at Sofitel - you have certain expectation. I do contrast these with my experience at the Sofitel Seoul just a few days later. The service there was timely and all laundry was returned in neatly sealed bags or on hangars. To the credit of Sofitel Wellington they did not charge me so I am NOT complaining. I just want to let other travelers know.
I would absolutely stay at Sofitel Wellington again.

The Sofitel Wellington is a lovely hotel, beautifully presented with a high end finish. Rooms are well proportioned and very comfortable and it generally feels a cut above its competitors (having just stayed at the Hilton in Auckland). We were upgraded at check in to a larger room which was lovely, even if check in itself was a bit cold and stand-offish. We didn’t eat at the restaurant for lunch or dinner but had breakfast included which is highly recommended as the selection is varied and the coffee delicious. The omelette was slightly overcooked but that’s just a very minor issue.
In terms of location, the Sofitel is close to Parliament but a short walk to the seafront/city centre shops etc. It’s also situated up a short hill, not a problem for us but this may bother some.
Overall I would definitely stay here again.

A pleasant stay at a well appointed quality hotel.
The room was spacious, private and secure, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean.
The gym contained a good range of equipment and amenities.
Those looking for the Club Sofitel experience should consider twice before paying for the experience. The Club room was a decent size, however there was a failure to service the Club room throughout the day on a regular basis, meaning guests were left to either clear tables themselves or sit and wait for staff to eventually arrive on a sporadic basis to do so. Yes, first world problems indeed, but if you are going to provide a service that you expect people to pay good dollars for, then you need to provide the accompanying service that guests have in fact paid for, rather than provide just lip service to the notion.

We stayed at this hotel in Wellington as a family of 3 over Christmas. As we had positive memories of several Sofitels around the world, we were really looking forward to it. But this was disappointed as soon as we entered our room... we had two single beds for 3 people and the 3rd bed was missing. Back at reception, we were told that we could get another room, but that it still needed to be cleaned. OK... as we had already been on the road for 5 weeks and were well rested on our world-around trip, we sat down at the bar and waited. After we had moved into the new room, we discovered that the folding bed was an iron frame with a hint of a mattress that was impossible to sleep on. Ok... another call to reception and they brought us a mattress which was put on top, which meant that the bed was so unstable that if you turned over in the night you would have fallen out with the mattress... a new stable bed was brought... at 10.30 p.m.... why not right away... We don't even want to talk about the missing towels for the 3rd person, which only arrived after the 2nd call, some with holes in them, and the poor service in the restaurant and at the bar. The Christmas dinner for €150 per person was a disgrace. There was a poor quality buffet which was absolutely not worth the money. The fact that you could only have this buffet and had no choice of an a la carte meal didn't make things any better. The bread was hard, some of the dessert came in pre-packaged packaging, which you could see because the kitchen was open, and the service was abysmal. We are really very forgiving when our complaint is taken seriously, but we have never experienced such an emotionless response to the question at checkout about how we enjoyed our stay. It will probably be the only time we travel to this beautiful New Zealand, as it is on the other side of the world from us, but we would definitely never visit this Sofitel again.
