This was a return to the Cambridge after a 10 year break and it didn’t disappoint. This is possibly the best value accommodation in Wellington with the ability to choose a range of comfort levels from dormitory thru to en-suite hotel rooms.

We had the top range queen en-suite which was on the second floor overlooking Cambridge Street. A comfortable room with pretty much everything you could need. For most of the year it would be perfect, but the lack of air conditioning could make it a bit iffy in the hottest part is summer.

One thing that stands out is the food. Good pub food, but extraordinary good value. The added bonus is guests get a discount which makes a meal even better value. Breakfast was close to perfect.

Will I stay there again - Definitely.

This is not our first stay, we were always happy to return to Cambridge.
This time however we had 4 sleepless nights. First night because of the screams of drunks on Kent Tce on Thursday night. After we were moved, our sleep was still non existent because some of the door mechanisms which were designed to close them softly, did not work, so we would be woken up multiple times at 2,3 4 a.m. from slamming doors, which while being half asleep would startle like us like gun shots.

Upon our return we reached out to the manager saying that the price we paid didn't justify the misery we endured. If you have any issues with your stay-please reach out to Barry the Manager like we did. We felt out concerns were listened and hopefully will be addressed. We hope the issues of soundproofing of your doors and windows will be dealt with in your upcoming multimillion dollar renovation plans.

The staff in Cambridge is always wonderful and they genially tried to help. The location is suitable for our needs and we will give Cambridge another try, as the place oozes charm and character. Please compare the photos one the website with the photos of the room you will actually get. Some rooms are renovated and some are not, but the photos and the price doesn't reflect this difference sometimes. If you need transport to the airport-please talk to the hotel, as they have a good deal with a taxi company which we used and highly recommend. The staff of Cambridge is its most precious asset indeed.

4-Bed dorm room was simple but the bunk was comfortable, room was cool and dark enough so I slept soundly. No lockers so keeping my valuables with me or in the luggage storage at front desk. Perfect location for me - access to nightlife and short walk to Fryberg Gym (they do week passes, cash). Had a hot chocolate in the bar last night they let me sit in while they were cleaning up, and there’s discounts for guests. No noise after hours so far.

Across the road there’s a cute cafe called Deluxe that do amazing sandwiches and coffee.

Very helpful staff in the bar and front desk, thanks so much ya’ll :)

Stayed Friday and Saturday night in family room which seemed to be next door to a communal toilet. Very noisy all night doors banging, no air con so had to leave windows open, no light in shower so dark to use in the evening. Lift was not working we were on second floor with heavy bags. Tired decor and very soft spongy beds. Cheap and close to town but I would not want to stay there again. I inadvertently left my jacket behind in the room on checkout but when I contacted the hotel next day there was no report of it being found so they may have security issues.

I am very happy with the service I received at The Cambridge Hotel in Wellington. After Hotels.com mixed up the booking, The Cambridge Hotel staff were happy to fix the room without question. They also have free baggage holding so we could explore the city after checkout without dragging our baggage around.
The Hotel itself retains its charm from when it was built in the late 1800s' which makes you feel like your walking straight into and old movie.

Can’t speak highly enough of the outstanding hospitality given to us my James the fabulous Welshman at this hotel. The staff were so accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay great. The place isn’t flash, but if you are looking for a fantastic central location, great service, a properly cooked steak and a bit of banter, you can’t go past the Cambridge

The worst accommodation ever. The hostel room option was falsely listed on booking.com. I would give a minus zero score of this hotel. It is not worth the money and very noisy. The most ridiculous thing I have ever heard about is they charge three times of the room/ bed fee for deposit of possible damage of room amenities. Cannot say this is a little reasonable. The worst of the worst.

My friend and I shared a twin room (with shared bathroom down the hall) for WOW and found the location great, and the price is very good also. Our basin was cracked and there was a slat missing on the venetian blind but otherwise the beds were very comfortable and the linen and blankets were nice. Good budget accommodation option right in the city but I personally prefer something a bit more upmarket (my friend is the Budget Lady!)

While the checkin staff were very friendly we then went to our room, got changed and headed out for the evening. Upon returning to the room and looking around properly, we first noticed what looked like blood or faeces running down the wall, then we took a shower and noticed a cake of filthy soap in the soap holder from the last people so the shower had clearly not been cleaned in between stays, the ceiling was peeling and cracked, the window was cracked and there were missing slats in the blinds meaning the light shone through. Due to reception being closed at this time and also closed when we checked out for the morning, we emailed our concerns to the hotel and received no reply. I sent a follow up email, still no reply. I called the hotel and was told the manager would look at the email as it was marked urgent so she wasn’t sure why it hadn’t been replied to already. Still no reply from the hotel in regards to the email!! It’s now been almost a week!

Service at this bar pre Covid was always hit & miss , but under level 2 last night service was good. Although we couldn’t play any pub games , pool , darts and they had 2 pinball machines there ( not on ) we were told the pinball machines were on there way to another venue. However pokie machines were up and running and you could get bar service for the TAB but no bar service for drinks. The Cambridge is not on its own here with the confusion around gambling services and the hospitality service side of things. In their defence it is a confusing time to trade in.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback, it is appreciated. I can clarify that yes, our pinball machines are being relocated to one of our other sites but the main reason they weren't on, along with our soft darts machine, is the need under level 2 for patrons to be seated. I agree with you that these are confusing trading times but you have my personal assurance that I will remind my team of the need to be as vigilant as possible at all times. Thanks again for taking the time to review The Cambridge. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Cheers, Barry - Venue Manager The Cambridge

Hi Giovanna, No we do not have any female dorms. However we do have 4 bed dorms which given the right circumstances we can make sure that it is only females that go in but there are no guarantees. Kind Regards, Finnbarr Kerr-Newell General Manager TGH Cambridge Hotel and Bar

Street parking is free for two hours in the weekend. The best option to park your car for free would be the coupon parking area, it is free in the weekend. It is easier to show you on the map when you get here. If you are looking at a more secure car park i would suggest the Wilson parking building in Tory street which is just 5 minutes from us. it is $3 for the entire day on saturday and sunday. Thank you and hope this helps. Charmaine

A less expensive alternative to a taxi is the Airport Flyer Bus service which departs from the lower level outside of the baggage claim area of Wellington airport. Take the bus to the Courtenay Place stop and walk a short distance from the bus stop around the corner into Cambridge Terrace and 100 meters to the hotel.
