Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The location is great with plenty of eateries around it , but She's cheap for a reason . The decor is 1930s , clean but rundown. The TV didnt work and the shower was a dribble, hence the green water savings badge. The Saturday night we stayed must have been a hookers convention because the girls and doors were banging and screeching till the small hours.

The worst accommodation ever. The hostel room option was falsely listed on booking.com. I would give a minus zero score of this hotel. It is not worth the money and very noisy. The most ridiculous thing I have ever heard about is they charge three times of the room/ bed fee for deposit of possible damage of room amenities. Cannot say this is a little reasonable. The worst of the worst.

The Cambridge Hotel doesn’t have the greatest reputation in Wellington but I come here regularly and enjoy it’s down to earth atmosphere and attitude. You can have a great pint, enjoy the non-stop sport on TV and the food is pretty decent. Not a sophisticated evening out but you will get a friendly greeting and excellent service.

The Cambridge is a hotel that shows its age, with its threadbare carpets and a 'cage' style lift. The long, dingy corridor on our floor reminded me of the 1930s hotel in Barton Fink. That said, the place still has some old-world charm, aided by a pretty convenient location and excellent wifi. Our room was a bit of a tight squeeze, dominated by a king-size bed when a queen-size would have done. Bathroom was OK bar the skinniest hand basin I think I have ever seen. For those interested in self-catering, there is an excellent backpacker kitchen, clean and well equipped.

Located so close to all that is great about Wellington, this hotel fully delivered for a one night stay. In town for the Ed Sheeran concert, we checked in late afternoon, enjoyed a couple of beers at the bar with friendly, efficient staff. Then a nice pub dinner, good quality pub grub. Uber to Sky Stadium cost around $12 there, $26 back. Room 110 was lovely, gorgeous little bathroom, and fabulous big bed, so very comfortable. We have stay here before and The Cambridge will be our first choice for next Wellington stay

The Cambridge has always been our go to place before cricket at the basin however it has new owners. We booked a table for 11am however they didn't open the doors until 11.15am. The menu has been significantly reduced and the food was very average. The wine list has also been reduced and there isn't much choice. A disappointing experience.

While the checkin staff were very friendly we then went to our room, got changed and headed out for the evening. Upon returning to the room and looking around properly, we first noticed what looked like blood or faeces running down the wall, then we took a shower and noticed a cake of filthy soap in the soap holder from the last people so the shower had clearly not been cleaned in between stays, the ceiling was peeling and cracked, the window was cracked and there were missing slats in the blinds meaning the light shone through. Due to reception being closed at this time and also closed when we checked out for the morning, we emailed our concerns to the hotel and received no reply. I sent a follow up email, still no reply. I called the hotel and was told the manager would look at the email as it was marked urgent so she wasn’t sure why it hadn’t been replied to already. Still no reply from the hotel in regards to the email!! It’s now been almost a week!

This is the second time we have stayed at the Cambridge Hotel in Wellington. Last time pur room was much better! This time, we arrived to our room to find it was so small our door hit the bed so we had to move the bed across. When we laid down on the bed, every spring could be felt in the mattress, making a very uncomfortable two nights. The wall and roof has serious water damage just to add to the stay!

Good value for money and a useful location. And perhaps we could have overlooked the peeling paint on the ceiling and the tired carpets as the room was a good size and a giant bed. Bathroom fine apart from a tiny sink that you couldn’t fill the jug at when we really needed a cup of tea after very stressful experience. So customer service non existent and that’s a very big problem when you return from a show at 11 at night and your swipe card doesn’t work! No out of hours contact numbers at reception. To cut to the chase just as we were about to leave all our stuff in the room and drive home 2 hours away because we knew Wellington was fully booked, a staff member appeared out of the bar (that was shut) and card was reactivated. Morning came. Husband fell in shower as floor super slippery. 8am no one on reception and no checkout instructions. This could have been a very different review but no one got back to any of my husbands calls the previous night. An apology and vow to do better would be good

My friend and I shared a twin room (with shared bathroom down the hall) for WOW and found the location great, and the price is very good also. Our basin was cracked and there was a slat missing on the venetian blind but otherwise the beds were very comfortable and the linen and blankets were nice. Good budget accommodation option right in the city but I personally prefer something a bit more upmarket (my friend is the Budget Lady!)
