Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in room 9 which overlooks the Basin Reserve cricket grounds, and were able to look outside our window and watch the cricket teams batting in the cages. Comfortable, clean, surprisingly quiet lodging, with great sound proofing, considering it's on a busy road. Easy and inexpensive ride from the airport, Cuba street and the waterfront are about a 10-15 minutes walk and we had everything we needed. Will return for the next big cricket match!

We have been to the Marksman Motor Inn twice years apart. It is fairly close to inner city and ferry and does have parking but the spaces are very narrow. These are positives. Staff do try hard. However cleanliness was somewhat lacking. We also had the worst nights sleep there out of the 5 various motels in different areas we stayed at. Even though it was fairly quiet could not get to sleep??

We stayed here for 4 nights in February 2020 as we were in Wellington for the test match (cricket); New Zealand vs India. If you do happen to be in town for the cricket, this is the perfect location with literally a 3-5 minute walk to the Basin Reserve (most of the time is taken up waiting to cross the road!). Facilities are what you expect in a motel, very basic but for us the priority was cleanliness (even though the rooms could do with an upkeep) which was a tick (the rooms are cleaned every day). The main concern was that the room got very hot at night. Try and stay on the top level if possible to minimise any noise from cars on the road or people checking in late.

The Manager's attitude was the worst we have ever experienced in oner 50 years of traveling. My wife is partially disabled, and we called in advance to reserve a ground floor room and a parking bay closest to the room. On phoning ahead of arrival the Manager refused to give his name and said parking spaces were on a first come first choice basis, and he would not reserve a space for us. We have stayed there many time before and we mentioned that Amy had helped do this previously. He shouted "She doesn't work here anymore"! When we asked again if a space near our room could be reserved he went crazy, and started telling us to "F*** Off, and Don't F'ing come here. Find somewhere else. to stay". He shouted down the phone F*** Off about five or 6 times, and then slammed the phone down. This man is not fit to be managing a Motel complex. I then checked my bank app to see if we had pre-paid, and I noticed that he had just deducted $100 from my credit card, so we had no option to go there, to at least get our money back. He did weakly apologize on our arrival, stating that someone else had been having an argument with him. Having been regular/loyal customers of this Motel for many years - we will NEVER stay there again!

To say we were disappointed with our stay at the Marksman Motel is an understatement.
We were charged an additional fee with no substantial evidence or explanation provided. This has left me feeling dissatisfied and concerned about the transparency of their billing practices. As a customer, I expect to be treated fairly and with transparency, and this experience has not met those expectations.
Furthermore, the service provided during our stay was well below expectations. The staff's demeanor was rude, and the overall service was lacking. To add to this, we were charged for the state of their motel's carpet, which was already dirty upon our arrival.
We urged them to review their billing and customer service practices to ensure that future guests do not encounter similar issues. As a customer, I value honesty, transparency, and quality service, and I hope to see improvements in these areas in the future.
We hope they will address these concerns promptly and take the necessary steps to prevent such issues from recurring. However I somehow doubt they will as they have been given more than a few opportunities to do so. We appreciate that businesses are finding it hard in the present economic climate but dishonesty is not the solution.

Room was great quiet, with great shower. Could not have asked for more. Reception was excellent and very accommodating as was unsure of length of stay due to how hospital patient fared re discharge. This was no problem to lady in reception who could not have been more helpful.
Location was excellent as bus stop was only about 2 minutes walk away with busses running every ten minutes during weekdays and on the half hour on weekend. Did not use the car at all and it was parked under cover entire stay. Parking however is on first come first served basis. Would not stay anywhere else now when visiting Wellington.

Lovely clean standard unit, nothing was a problem, always a park for my van. I was able to use the dryer for $5 for my clothes. One dryer didn’t work as well but was not a problem the owner just checked I had it on the right settings and did it again. It was incredibly quiet, we had access to sky movies, We found it really quiet and an easy walk to town, lovely and close to where we needed to be. We had fresh towels everyday. Incredible service, thank you. Value for money.

This is NOT a a 4* accommodation it wouldn’t even rate as a 1 or 2* accomodation
I had room 5 a disability room, frayed and curled carpet on the floor at doorways, bathroom floor constantly wet because of a constantly dripping shower head, old and tired fittings and fixtures and the list could go on. In short don’t be fooled by their website after staying 28 days touring NZ this is the worst accomodation I and my travelling companions ever experienced. It does not deserve your patronage.

I had to be in Wellington NZ for two nights in early December. I was booked into 4 Star room at the Marksman Motel. My room was well below 2 Star. The young woman that was on reception would not let me finish a sentence and over talked me. After maybe a minute or so it became a loud rant & abusive language from her. I went back to my room, packed my gear and took a taxi to another motel.
The carpet was old & worn. The walls had not had a coat of paint in many years. Then when you add the attitude of the young lady at reception, I would not expect a homeless person to want to stay there & I wouldn't stay if they paid me $500.

Didn’t expect much tbh but was above my expectations. Nice bathroom, super clean, good location in the city centre, and allowed us to park our car early (before check in time). Toothbrushes and soapy stuffs provided :)
