It is what it is. A backpackers in Wellington's CBD. Plain and cheap. The communal bathroom/toilet area was not flash and looked dirty. Bedding had to be taken downstairs rather than being left in a laundry bin on the floor where your room was located. The elevator wasn't working so you had to use the stairs. Reception is not available 24/7 as advertised. The reason for this being staff were being interrupted to often. When I asked what time the outer door was closed at night the girl advised as soon as she left (around 5pm). However this was not the case as I arrived back much later than that. The receptionist was quite rude and dismissive and clearly didn't want to be there. If you want a bed for a night or two I would recommend getting a single room.

As everyone below mentioned, this is worst hostel ever in my memory. My friends even feel scare to go shower so that she decide just skip that. Everything dirty, broken, stinky, smelly. Even I was thinking go get some tap water to drink, when I walk to the kitchen, I change my mind just try to buy some water outside. Not just the cleanliness, this hostel look like got lots of weird guys(or drug? Or homeless guys?) walking around the building, waiting somebody open the door so they can sneak in, and some even looks nasty. This make my friend feel unsafe to walk alone in the hostel.

I don’t normally do reviews but thought I’d share this one. Booked for a week , looking for something cheap and cheerful , having stayed in backpackers previously we were prepared for basic and thought it was worth a try. The extremely pungent smell of weed didn’t bother us too much but should have been a warning. The rooms were less than basic and not very clean , stained and damaged carpeting , room door that could hardly close and let noise and light through. The bed frames had empty beer bottles and other things stuffed in them . The cupboard door had punch holes and we saw a few silver fish in the floor .
The noise outside initially was bearable but ramped up as a nite club started thumping it out well into the night and following morning. No sleep for me ! The lights outside flashing through the inadequate curtains. The shared toilets showers were again basic but should have been ok but one of the two showers was out of order which was an issue later The noise in the corridors was loud , especially with one person threatening to get her knife and stab another person using the shared shower and shouting it at various times down the corridor.
Needless to say we sat tight in our room , filled in a refund/ complaint form as no manager was on site and checked out after one night . To date we have received no communication or refund from the place. This place is the worst I’ve ever stayed in and I have been all over .

I'm not sure I have ever had worse customer service in my entire life. Having tried to ring these people multiple times and leaving numerous voice messages to arrange a room for a large group of my friends, a price and a room was eventually agreed upon over text. On the DAY of our booking, I received a very fuzzy voice message which I could only slightly make out the requirement to receive extra funding for the room. I rang them straight back but only (again) got voice mail and found out later that they had tricked my friend who was arriving earlier to pay the extra amount of which we had not agreed. The stay itself was completely unacceptable, I had probably about 1cm between myself and probably the most rusted set of broken springs a mattress could harbour and the cups all had a layer of grime on them. Afterwards when I talked to them about the unnecessary extra payment they agreed to refund the amount as soon as possible. A week went by with no refund to which point (having tried to ring them again) I texted them requesting reasoning for their lack of refund and perhaps they wanted to see the screen shots of our agreed price. To this they thought that a half-refund would be an acceptable recuperation for our losses. Which, it was not. Having (tried to ring again) texted them outlining AGAIN why the full refund was not only fair but required by law, they finally agreed to refund the full price two weeks after our stay. We are still waiting on this proposed refund which has not been paid by this company.

The place is very clean and comfortable, the only problem and sadly the biggest is the lack of respect from the staff to the customers, lack of professionalism and respect. The person who introduced himself as the second in command (he did not introduce himself or answer me when I asked the name) simply does not know how to express himself correctly with a client, he treats me in a rude way instead of explaining to me why I cannot be in the kitchen or In the living room, he addressed me in a bad way and making nasty gestures as if I was bothering him. Unfortunately I came looking to have a good time and you can de-stress and in the end I consider that loadge in you city was a bad decision. Unfortunately I will never come back here. Keep this in mind when making your reservation.

I want to say clearly that was a old man with beard, because here is also another two ladies working and they are very nice .

This is by far the worst hostel I have stayed in! Walking into the room, the carpet felt damp and sticky under your feet, with there being a stale musty smell. The room was basic which is to be expected - the usually noisy metal bunk bed - which the top bunk rail was broken. Then we needed the loo... 🤦🏽‍♀️ there is a room with 3 toilets and 2 showers for the whole floor, which I was told was approx 30 people. It was disgusting, there was a strong smell of urine as soon as you walked in, the toilets had puddles of urine around them, the showers looked like you would leave dirtier than when you got in - we didn’t risk showering, so can’t comment on the pressure. In the room, the electrics were terrible, a power bank only half charged after being plugged in all night, the lights flickered like something out of a horror film. Someone was sat outside our room until the early hours on the phone, the walls were paper thin!
If you want to stay here... good luck to you! If it wasn’t so late when we checked in, we would have checked straight back out again!
Staff were friendly enough, there were towels and clean linen provided, but I still wouldn’t recommend staying here!

I spent six month of my year of working holiday visa in The Lodge in the city and it was an amazing experience. I’ve met wonderful people there and I would 100% recommend this hostel for long term stay. The Lodge is located right in the city center, you have 5Go data per day and even if the place isn’t really luxurious, it doesn’t really matter because this hostel is about the amazing people you can meet there. By the way, the common areas are made to meet people so if you’re keen of socialising, go there and stay !

Absolutely appauling!
The photos on Lodge in the City's website are nothing like the discusting rooms and facilities.
Its diry, smelly, old, and beyond upgrading.
The only positive thing I can say is the linen and duvets were clean.

Quite good location with a small parking place. It was very dirty, showers out of service, the lift out of service. I was cheated on key deposit, they refused to give me back 40 dollars. Manager lied it would be deposit on my credit card. Never did. And they copy your credit card data, what for?
