The room looked as though the bed had been made and that was all. I noticed the pillow cases were dirty with dust and hair so assumed possibly they were not clean sheets from previous people.all surfaces were dusty and sticky and the sink taps have soap stains and sink was unclean.I havent used the shower yet so stayed tuned for that edit.the bathroom slider is stuck open so if you were a couple you are toileting in full view of your partner.
It is badly damaged with sunken floor spots damaged carpet and hasn't been vacuumed along skirting boards or under or behind bed and furniture. Pretty sure the cleaner just made a used bed ,plonked clean towels on the bed and left. Even a very basic room like this could be cleaned and arranged 100% better with little effort. Incredibly disappointed.

Stayed here on our last visit to Wellington and loved the stylish room in the Lodge and kitchen facilities which enabled us to eat breakfast and make coffee. However we are very disappointed this visit: No towels in room. Cracked wash basin, stained toilet seat, dirty shower with hair strands coating the walls. Bedside light didn't work, no dishes or cutlery for eating meals in the kitchen. There was no coffee plunger available, yet the coffee provided could only be used with a plunger. One of the 2 lights over the kitchen bench malfunctioned. Also the TV didn't work properly, kept dropping out of station. Parking was charged this time too, free last time. There was no mention at time of booking that parking was not included in booking price. We will definitely not stay here again.

On my visit to Wellington I was recommended Halswell Lodge Motel, not only for its reasonable price but for its central location. Not coming by car that was essential. The motel covers several buildings. I was placed in an old building which may have been someone's home at a time with large rooms, ditto bathrooms. Nice and comfortable although a bit run-down. It is a motel, not a hotel, so don't expect the reception to be staffed at all times. The main thing is the perfect location for whatever you want to experience in Wellington. It is just down the streets in front of Halswell. Good choice for me and hopefully for other travelers.

The owners, the staff and the place is disgusting. My whole whānau all booked 4 rooms 14 of us and i arrived before my whānau and checked all the rooms to see if they were ok before they all arrived and i made the owners re clean all the bathrooms and the window sills. The bathrooms were disgusting not even cleaned and we had a toodler and no way were we going to make our kids shower/bath in that filth until my partner and i told the owners to clean it. Mold around the showers, broken toasters, dirty fridges, dirty microwaves, no dish washing liquid, missing bowls and utensils. My whānau and i all had to share appliances between the rooms. Theres a sign saying the rooms will be services each day and put towels and stuff in the shower, nope thats a lie. My mother had to tell the staff on our 2nd/3rd day for fresh towels, toilet paper, dish washing liquid for tge empty bottles. The under sheets and the matresses themselves were so disgusting. The bond they asked for before we even stepped into the place and had a check it was for damages when there was a hole in the outside wall, kicked in door, tagging etc. The staff/owners dont car at all, reception is non existant. We had to throw our own rubbish into skip etc. Paying $2100 for that was over priced and a total rip off and i hope they get shutdown because its disgusting in terms of health and safety. Broken shower head, my brother a plumber so he fixed it. My whānau honestly just bought paper plates and plastic utensils and our own coffee/tea/water etc because we couldnt even trust the cleanliness of everything. Also the photos that are online are what it used to be but are now not even true what it is in reality. Never again.

The parking is steep if you are booking a room and have a rental.

It would be a quaint place because it gives off rustic type vibes. The location is prime and that is what you are really paying for. You have Te Papa, the waterfront, eateries, shows, theatres, Cuba Street, all within 5-10 walking distance of this location.

However the vibes we were getting was Bates Motel vibes. Our group booked two rooms as there was 6 of us visiting from Auckland. They allowed us to book in early which cost us $30 per room to check in early. The first room outside 24 that was booked for our group was flooded even though staff said it was ready. We mean from the bathroom all the way to the front door the entire carpet was soaked.

They responded fast by putting our group in a room upstairs.

Room 28 had two hand prints in the wall directly across from the door, toilet door didn’t stay close when you closed it, dishes had to rewash them when we wanted to use them. Toilet didn’t flush properly and the shower water pressure was not great.

The second room 12 was better at least the toilet and shower pressure were good. The thing holding the shower head was loose, the door didn’t remain close si we had to put a towel on the door so that it stayed closed.

Beds were comfy but blankets and sheets had stains on them at the bottom. You wouldn’t know it until you inspected them.

Early in March my partner and I stayed at the Halswell Lodge, 21 Kent Terrace, Wellington for one night booked through the Agoda website. I WISH I HAD READ THE REVIEWS!

I understand that Hoteliers/ Owners are ethically and legally obliged to protect the health and safety of their guests. This lodge has absolutely no protocols in place and I am asking could you please inspect this property as no one wants a repeat of the Loafers Lodge fire.

This has to be the dirtiest run down dwelling we have ever stayed in. There are no smoke detectors in rooms - well not in the one they we stayed in.

I am unsure about the other rooms but judging by the poor condition and bad reviews I doubt if they would have smoke detectors in the other rooms.

The TV turned on but sadly after complaining was told it did not work. One towel was supplied for 2 people – a second towel was brought in after I complained. There were no face cloths and we were told they do not supply them. These are cosmetic faults however the fridge leaked over the frayed rotten carpet and down the corners of the room water has got in, the smell of mould was horrific. Only one light above the bed worked.
The mattress was the wrong way around with the headboard screw holes facing the end of the bed. There was no mattress protector so the sheet was sitting on top of the stained mattress. The photos on the net are not what you now get, I would say they belonged to the previous owners - the current owners should not be allowed to manage this place. Remember - The photos are not whats showing there today. This plac e is a total dirty hovel and is not fit for anyone, I so wish I had read the reviews.

I have attached photos.

The worst place, no hot water, toilet/ seat broken/appliances having damage leads/heater broken leg /bad insulation, all-night you could hear thuds from the room above /graffiti outside the window/
staff assistant replaces the jug and toaster and says he wasn't told by the cleaners. next day he was the one cleaning the rooms.
we were going to stay for 2 nights but when we went to reception the manager wouldn't come out and greet us and stayed in her office and basically lied to us to be polite, she said that she had a plumber coming on Monday to fix the water + sink and i said that wasn't good enough as plumbers are on call24/7 and asked for compensation, she responded in saying that she would give our money back for the second night but we would have to check out. This was a busy weekend as we had come down from Auckland to see the wearable arts show and we knew that trying to find accomadation would be scarce.
lucky for us the Bays hotel just2min away had a couple of rooms 5 star compared to that dump and we paid the same amount.

note .after we came home I look online at the reviews and hot water issue have been an ongoing problem for some time.

Selling details on the internet amazing. Booked 2 rooms for 2 night- 4 females.
We left due to feeling unsafe, live bullet in the bed, blood on the curtains, could hardly see the mirror due to the filth and smears. Coffee table had no glass, matress protector was absolutely horrendously didrty. Rubbish outside rooms, under stairs in gardens. Smelt very very damp. Shower mouldy and dirty. ...list went on and on. ON Their security camera filmed - reception refunded one nights accomodation after we mentioned the live bullet. Would not refund the first night. We left and did not stay that night, as it was too unfit to stay in. Numerous emails to them to request refund and why. No response. Gang members present. So so dissapointed , pics are Nothing like how it really appeared.

I was going to upload photos, but they are pretty much in line with what have already been posted - and nothings changed.

My husband and I have stayed here many times over the years, but this time will be our last. We stay in the villa part, and although we absolutely love the old decor we were very disappointed with our stay. We always choose a spa bath room. The bath in our room was filthy, with black grease smears and debris in the bath. We went to the shared kitchen to try to find something to clean it with and there was nothing. The shared kitchen was left in an awful state with stains on the bench and the dishwasher had filthy cups. Our room had no batteries in the remote for the TV. We purchased batteries and something to clean the bath with. The bathroom floor was unclean with cracker crumbs under the vanity. The shower wasn't hot and the shower head was stuck at a weird angle. When we went to use the bath, again the water was lukewarm and not worth the effort we went to cleaning it. The fridge froze our milk and the tea bags were stale. The carpet had not been vacuumed.
We considered going to a different hotel for our second night, but we had already been charged over $400 for our stay. Even the fake flowers looked dead.
I am an ex motel housekeeper, so I was extremely annoyed at the lack of cleaning. We would have been fired if we left a room in that state.

Halswell lodge, we love the old villa, but we hated how you haven't taken any pride in the place.

We will not be back.

Helpful phone call telling me about the lockbox code etc for my 9.30pm arrival. The room was compact, reasonably quiet but there was no towel and no one on site to request one from. As the office didn't open until 9.00am I ended up using the pillow case for a towel. When I left and raised the matter I was offered late check out . . . . . . I was leaving, lol.

The room was not as good as in the photos, towel rail had disconnected from the fixture etc.

For a little more there are quality hotels in the heart of the city offering specials and providing much better quality accommodation.
