Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having spent 17 nights here, i feel i know the hotel fairly well. The location is the best in the city. The excellent airport bus drops you on Lambton Quay, one block over, a 2 minute walk from the hotel ( get off at Panama Street ). The bus operates every 15 minutes, and takes 30 minutes. It’s NZD 6.00, and you pay the driver, either in cash, or by credit card. Also on Lambton is a terrific Countdown Supermarket - again, only 3 minutes walk. Next to the supermarket is the cable car that takes you to the botanical garden. In the other direction, you are only a 5 minute walk from the waterfront, and a 10 minute walk from the Te Papa, national heritage museum, admission free, and on the waterfront. If you exit the hotel to your right, you are only a 10 minute walk to the train station, and likewise, a 10 minute walk to the “Beehive”, which is the house of parliament. You can take 1-hour, free, guided tours of the latter - make a reservation online. Breakfast at the hotel is not exceptional, but perfectly adequate. The supervisor, Alice, does a great job, and overall, the staff was very sweet. All my experiences with the reception staff were positive, and Jordine, in particular, was extremely customer-oriented. Overall, this is a very solid hotel, and were i to return, this is where I would stay.

This is by far the best Ibis I have stayed at. Rooms are very well maintained, clean and bigger than any other Ibis I have stayed in. Shower pressure was a bit hit and miss but hot enough. The hotel is older but tidy and in a fantastic location. Only limited parking at the hotel but plenty of options close by to choose from.

The room / stay was as advertised and easily met my expectations. Staff at all levels were friendly and helpful. The city centre location is great. The std Ibis room was ok / adequate but was good value for Wellington. The included full buffet breakfast was excellent. Separate evening dining there was also pleasing. My only gripe was that the room thermostat achieved nothing and the room was a too warm 22 - 24 C all the time. Wellington had its hottest ever Jan day while I was there = 30 C so maybe this was part of the problem but the bed quilt supplied was way too hot to use.

Average property. Probably wouldn't stay there again. Carpet was ripped and frayed in our room - needs a good update. No safe in the room. They have wooden card keys which I'm sure are for looks and maybe environmentally friendly. When we got to our room, we weren't able to get our lights to work by putting the card key in the slot. Upon returning to the front desk, the gal said 'oh yea, sometimes those wood card keys don't work in the slot' and she gave me a regular plastic card key. Why not do that right away so a tired traveler doesn't haven't to go down 7 floors to get an answer to a problem.

I stayed solo for two nights visiting Wellington for a concert in the CBD. The Ibis is very well located 5 minutes walk from the wharf where there are several great bars and restaurants. Supermarket 5 minute walk away. Very good value with typical great Ibis prices and excellent service. My room was absolutely fine and the bed was super-comfy. Added bonus was a great bar on-site. A+++++

I stayed for a week on business and found the room to be perfectly suited to my needs. It was simply but adequately appointed. The bed was super comfortable; as good as my one at home. The staff were professional and welcoming. I would definitely stay again.

Charged my credit card for drinks at the bar which I did not have (Obviously staff mixup or thirsty guest loading up on my room number). Chap apologised during checkout and promised the charge will be reversed. A week later my credit card was charged. Either a scam or just negligent staff. Either way I will NOT be staying again.

Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I had stayed once before and the room was next to the lift which was quite noisy which I mentioned so the staff went out of their way to give me a better room. Great that I could book in early when I arrived and the 11am check out is an extra bonus. The bed and pillows were comfortable. My only disappointment was the room appeared quite dusty and the air conditioning does not really cool, would not like to stay in the summer, had it set on 5 degrees and even at that the room was not cool.
