We booked a Directors Suite with two Queen beds last minute and was pleasantly surprised (Room 105, cost NZD$583 for 4 adults.

Two entrances to this hotel. Front Desk/Check is on Gilmer Terrace (6th floor), staff were friendly and very efficient. The other entrance is on Ground Floor via the lift, accessing the lifts and entry into the building via Lampton Quay with key card only.

CityLife has parking available but very limited, I counted about 12 spots, the staff were very helpful, saying there is more parking nearby at a Wilson car park, park at your own risk as used by public.

The apartment itself is spacious and clean, each bedroom had their own toilet and shower. We had a room facing Lampton Quay and we didn’t find the street noise too bad. Had all the amenities including a full kitchen with washing machine and dryer. There is room service, food can be ordered from nearby food outlets, delivery fee of NZD$8 as long as the order is $20. If you prefer to cook, there is a countdown and new world within a short walking distance.

The location of this hotel is excellent, shops and restaurants on your doorstep, walking distance to the Docks is 5 minutes, and maybe 10 minutes to Te Papa Museum. There is a bus stop right outside.

If I was travelling in a group or having a longer stay, I would definitely recommend!

An excellent location in the city centre and within walking distance of the waterfront, botanic gardens, Te Papa and Parliament.

Key things to know before you book:
1. Parking is offsite in a public car park and is $31 per night
2. If driving, enter via Gilmer Terrace and check into the accommodation from this entrance (5-6 short term parks outside the reception doors). No parking is close on Lambton Quay
3. Rooms on level 7 are only available to guests via the stairs - so double check your room allocation before heading off.
4. Air conditioning is only in the sitting room - not suite bedrooms.
5. Countdown (supermarket) is very close for the self caterers.

The bed was fabulous and the apartment very clean and spacious but we found that the heating systems aren’t up to the job. Arriving in damp clothes to an apartment that was freezing cold was not a nice experience, and the heat pump was not working. In retrospect we should have got hot drinks and sat out near reception while the place warmed up after maintenance got it working, but we shouldn’t have had to. On day 2 a very old (but effective) lounge wall heater expired, filling our apartment with acrid smoke, resulting in having to be moved to another apartment that again was very cold, think 12 degrees Celsius, and did not have a wall heater.

The bedrooms were only heated by a tiny fan heater, which of course cannot safely be used while asleep. My daughter’s room facing the street would have been 10 degrees C at most on some mornings. Small oil heaters would have been enough. To be told with attitude that we could have asked for electric blankets was unhelpful. They can’t be safely used all night either.

Hi smart99chaos, Thank you for sharing your feedback. Once again, sorry for the inconvenience you experienced with the heating during your stay. We understand how crucial comfort is, especially when it comes to temperature, and we fell short of providing the experience we aim for. We did make several efforts to address the issue, including relocating you to another apartment for the remainder of your stay to ensure a more comfortable experience and providing a wine bottle and hand-crafted chocolates as a gesture of goodwill. Additionally, we waived off $470 on your accommodation to help make up for the discomfort. I’m truly sorry to learn that despite our efforts we did not meet your expectations in terms of service and comfort. Please be assured that we are taking your feedback seriously to prevent such issues in the future and to enhance our guest experience. I appreciate your understanding with unexpected maintenance, and I hope we have the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience should you choose to stay with us again. Kind regards, Rajeev Dahiya. Front Office Manager, CityLife Wellington

We stayed in a two bed two bath apartment for 2 nights. This apartment was huge and had a large 8 seater dining table. The kitchen area was a little small but perfectly adequate. My room faced the high street and I heard no outdoor noise whatsoever. I’m a light sleeper so this was a bonus. My bathroom had a washing machine and dryer in it, which is handy if you are on a long trip. There isn’t a restaurant onsite but it’s not really needed as there are numerous restaurants, bars and a supermarket practically on the doorstep. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the harbour where there were several bars and restaurants. We were only there for 2 nights which was okay and suited our needs.

We have 2 days to explore Wellington and places to go includes Weta cave, Wellington museum, Wellington zoo, cable car and botanical garden.

Location of this accommodation is quite close to the places we wanted to visit. We are staying like 2 blocks away from the cable car ticketing booth.

We do not have time to go to the water front but I saw signage stating water front is like 10 mins away by foot.

There are stores and supermarkets right below the hotel.

Complete set of kitchenette is available in the hotel room which my family loves it. We cook and eat before and after our day trip. This is something which we do not have chance to do when we are at home.

When booking this hotel, I had high expectations but found things not quite as good as expected. Upon checking in very late / early hours of the morning, it was discovered that the TV was not working. After calling down to the front desk and someone coming up to check, we couldn’t find what the problem was. We said we’d check it out in the morning and were offered a change of room if need be. Upon checking the next morning, it was found that the aerial cable was unplugged. Why it was unplugged we don’t know. The next thing was the fridge. It was sitting inside a shelf which had a protruding screw in the floor of the shelf in front of the fridge door which prevented the fridge door opening. We had to lift the fridge up to get the door high above the protruding screw to open it. Housekeeping was also bizarre. All they did was collect the used towels and throw new ones on the bathroom sink. Bed was not made up and other things (like toilet paper) were not replenished. I have never come across housekeeping like this. There was also little storage space in the way of draws to put clothes. I also found the bed not very comfortable and felt I was rolling into the middle on an angle. I think the only thing going for this hotel is the location which is right in the middle of Lambton Quay. However vehicle access is behind the property in Gilmer St.

Really great deal for a super nice place to stay in the main business district of Wellington. The staff there graciously upgraded us when we mentioned that we were hoping to utilize the in-unit laundry. We were amazed at the full kitchen, including an oven, stove, and full fridge, which we weren’t provided for most of our trip (even when staying in very nice hotels and AirBnBs!). While we weren’t able to get the WiFi to work, we were mostly just using this as a play to stay on our extensive travels through New Zealand. This place was fabulous, and I would recommend it to anyone considering.

We arrived fairly early in the day with the kids. We were greeted by a smiley young lady at reception who was polite, professional and very friendly as well. While the room was not ready which we expected, she took her time to find one that might have been ready for us. After couple of minutes, we were given a room, our bags were taken down by a gentleman who was friendly and well presented.
We enjoyed every moment of our journey.
Weather was great to do some sightseeing, housekeeping service was spot on and check out was hassle free.
Best place to stay in Wellington.
We will certainly be back soon.

We arrived by car and it took a bit of finding as the hotel has pedestrian street access but vehicular access and parking is the block behind. The car spaces directly in front are awkward if your car is large but there’s plenty of parking a short distance away in a multi-storey. Reception will give you a card to display and there is a fee. We stayed in a 2 bed apartment which was smart and clean. It had everything we needed including a washing machine and tumble dryer! The kitchen was well equipped with a neat drawer style dishwasher under the oven! Shower was good too! Would definitely recommend - it’s well situated for shopping - the museum is excellent too and plenty of places to eat. The cable car for access to Zealandia and Botanical gardens is literally round the corner.
