As the picture shows, this hotel is literally across the street (a quiet, pretty street) from the water - a large, gorgeous bay. We had a room that looked out on the water and it was fantastic to wake up in the morning, open the curtains, and there was the sea. The common areas of the hotel were a floor up from our room and had even more expansive views. Our room was very attractive, too, and had everything we needed. Stella, who owns the hotel, and Jurgen, her partner, were fantastic. They gave us lots of ideas for things to do and routes to take, plus they answered every question we had. They made an amazing breakfast, too. The only tiny downside to the lodge is that it is not in the main part of the city, so you have to drive or Lyft/Uber/Cab it in. It's a challenging (but beautiful) drive because of a narrow, windy, steep road up one side and down the other of a hill. But it was such a special place that it was worth it. We loved it.

We had a fantastic stay here. The lodge is right on the water, walking distance to the beach. Stunning views of the water from the second story. Our room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Stella and Jurgen were excellent hosts.

Stella is the best!! And her Edgewater Lodge is pretty wonderful, too. We spent our last night in New Zealand at the Edgewater Lodge. The home is gorgeous, right across the street from the water. Our room had a balcony from which we watched the ferries going past, and at night they are all lit up.The room is beautiful, the bed was great, the linens are top quality, and the en suite bathroom is large. It is all very elegant. Stella does an amazing job with the breakfast, too -- many delicious offerings which she prepares. We left our rental car in Picton so as not to have to deal with it for one day in Wellington. We took a bus from the ferry to the train station, then a taxi to the Edgewater. The next day we used Uber to get around - cheaper than the taxi. I highly recommend a stay at the Edgewater Lodge B&B. It is quiet and not downtown, so having wheels or using Uber is pretty much a must. Stella goes beyond the call of duty to make your stay comfortable.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. What more could a girl want! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We enjoy hosting guests at Edgewater, it is nice to be able to share Edgewater and its views with guests, as one could take it for granted and needs guests like yourself to remind us how lucky we are to live at Karaka Bay. Stella.

This was another disappointing booking done through the QANTAS site. The lodge is in a lovely location, but the room we had was downstairs adjacent to the road. It had no windows for fresh air, nor a fridge, iron or ironing board. To go inside the lodge you had to lock your door, then press the entry code to go inside the lodge.. when in bed, if you left the curtains open, people walking by could look in.

The owners were very pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was a feast. But the inadequacies in the room made it difficult.

I look forward to the next time I can stay here. The rooms are well appointed, spacious, comfy and spotless, facing the water. Hospitality is some of the best I have every experienced on my numerous travels. Hosts are genuine warm, happy to share information on the area and have great suggestions. Breakfast was the best I had on this NZ trip. The location is beautiful - on the water with a lovely natural beach. The lodge is just a short drive into the town on Miramar Peninsula which hosts the Weta Workshop and The Larder, a great restaurant. Just a short drive into the capital, Wellington. Truly a 5 Star experience!

We could copy And paste the other reviews. Stella & Juergen host the most fabulous place to stop for as long as possible. Location idyllic. Nothing to do there except walk the most gorgeous path along the shore road. Breathtaking and relaxing while viewing the Picton ferry pass up the channel. City centre not far by car. A couple of cafe restaurants within a few km. where the food was ok but if you want fine dining you may need to go further. Stella’s breakfast was wonderful with great engagement with the other guests. There was a view to savour in an extraordinary vast room while indulging the taste buds and brain! Thanks so much. Probably our top BB experience in 4 weeks travel . Book it if you can.

As per all the other reviews, Stella is a great Hostess. We were provided with maps, advice on things to do and places to eat on arrival. Her breakfasts are amazing and freshly cooked to your specification. Bed linen in lovely and rooms are clean and well equipped. There is a guest lounge area where Stella provides complementary tea / coffee and cake. Small fridge with other items, beer, wine etc at an additional cost.

A high class B&B. The location, the view, and the breakfast were fantastic. Our hostess Stella was awesome. She was very helpful and friendly. The room, the lounge, the free wine and beer for our consumption was not normal. If we ever return to Wellington we know where to stay.

We spent one night at the Edgewater Lodge as our "jet lag" overnight in Wellington. Stella is a great hostess! She was very helpful in giving us travel tips for the rest of the trip. The room was very nice and comfortable. Her breakfast was amazing! Great location and beautiful view! I would highly recommend this B and B!

We reached The Edgewater Lodge after a pretty long day of driving, hiking and touring. Stella greeted us as we were getting out of the car. We had reserved the Green Room but because we were the only visitors that weekend, Stella moved us to the nicest room. Frankly, the photos don't do the place and views justice.

Our first night was Saturday and we had reservations for Logan Brown's 8pm degustation dinner. But after such a long day, the thought of sitting up and eating until 10pm and then driving back to the Edgewater in the dark on unfamiliar roads (and on the wrong side of the road no less!) convinced us to cancel.

We picked up some cheese, crackers and a good NZ sauvignon blanc at the local market and looked forward to a quiet evening watching movies on my I Pad. While we were getting set up in the lounge area, we noticed a very impressive home theater system. We asked Stella about it and she explained that it was Barrie Osborne's (Executive Producer of Lord of the Rings) home theater which he had left when he sold the house.

We pushed our luck and asked Stella if we could watch a movie on it. She played "A Good Year." This is a Russell Crowe romantic comedy from 2006 which neither of us had seen. We have a pretty decent home theater of our own. The sound system of Barrie Osborne's (now Stella and Jurgen's) home theater simply blew us away. A really great evening at the home theater in The Edgewater Lodge.

We scheduled our first appointment of the next day at 10:30am (Weta Cave which is walking distance from The Edgewater) so we could enjoy Stella's breakfast. Breakfast was a great time to learn about all the Lord of the Rings people who had stayed at The Edgewater (Orlando Bloom stayed in our room). We also were briefed about the penguins that nest in the hillside next to the property. We pinpointed Peter Jackson's compound. Stella was a great host.

Our second night was just like our first: cheese, crackers and wine in the lounge while watching a movie. We had to be on our way early the next morning to catch the Interislander Ferry to South Island. We weren't expecting it but Stella had breakfast on the table for us at 6:30am.

A few additional things: Scorch-o-Rama Cafe is walking distance and, though you might have to wait for a table, it is worth it. The Edgewater is located on the Miramar Peninsula which is New Zealand's version of Hollywood.

Our visit to New Zealand wouldn't have been the same without Stella and The Edgewater Lodge.
