We had a fantastic stay here. The lodge is right on the water, walking distance to the beach. Stunning views of the water from the second story. Our room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Stella and Jurgen were excellent hosts.
We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Edgewater and absolutely loved the location, the accommodation, the breakfast and the expert recommendations we received from the owners. We will be back next time we are in Wellington!
As the picture shows, this hotel is literally across the street (a quiet, pretty street) from the water - a large, gorgeous bay. We had a room that looked out on the water and it was fantastic to wake up in the morning, open the curtains, and there was the sea. The common areas of the hotel were a floor up from our room and had even more expansive views. Our room was very attractive, too, and had everything we needed. Stella, who owns the hotel, and Jurgen, her partner, were fantastic. They gave us lots of ideas for things to do and routes to take, plus they answered every question we had. They made an amazing breakfast, too. The only tiny downside to the lodge is that it is not in the main part of the city, so you have to drive or Lyft/Uber/Cab it in. It's a challenging (but beautiful) drive because of a narrow, windy, steep road up one side and down the other of a hill. But it was such a special place that it was worth it. We loved it.…
The lodge is in a superb location with vast views. Stella and Jurgen made us very welcome with a comfy room which was clean and had all we need. Breakfasts were presented superbly and the food was fresh and beautifully prepared. Well done.
Stella is the best!! And her Edgewater Lodge is pretty wonderful, too. We spent our last night in New Zealand at the Edgewater Lodge. The home is gorgeous, right across the street from the water. Our room had a balcony from which we watched the ferries going past, and at night they are all lit up.The room is beautiful, the bed was great, the linens are top quality, and the en suite bathroom is large. It is all very elegant. Stella does an amazing job with the breakfast, too -- many delicious offerings which she prepares. We left our rental car in Picton so as not to have to deal with it for one day in Wellington. We took a bus from the ferry to the train station, then a taxi to the Edgewater. The next day we used Uber to get around - cheaper than the taxi. I highly recommend a stay at the Edgewater Lodge B&B. It is quiet and not downtown, so having wheels or using Uber is pretty much a must. Stella goes beyond the call of duty to make your stay comfortable.…
We enjoyed the spacious elevated common rooms and our expansive view of the bay while staying in the very comfortable, well appointed and accessible first level room. Our hostess enhanced our stay by sharing her local knowledge and assisting us with whatever we needed.
Jurgen and Stella are impeccable hosts with a gorgeous house in a fantastic location. Jurgen greeted us when we arrived and recommended a restaurant close by, and to check out the Roxy Theatre. Breakfast was a delight in their dining room because they open the doors wide and you have fresh air and a view of the bay. Fruit salads, muesli, hot breakfast with specialty items handmade by Stella like cheese biscuits and petite fours. We had to catch the ferry early our last morning, so they prepared breakfast early for us. Jurgen gave us helpful tips to get the most out of our visit to Wellington and Miramar. The room was beautiful with a very comfortable king size bed. We would gladly stay here again.
I look forward to the next time I can stay here. The rooms are well appointed, spacious, comfy and spotless, facing the water. Hospitality is some of the best I have every experienced on my numerous travels. Hosts are genuine warm, happy to share information on the area and have great suggestions. Breakfast was the best I had on this NZ trip. The location is beautiful - on the water with a lovely natural beach. The lodge is just a short drive into the town on Miramar Peninsula which hosts the Weta Workshop and The Larder, a great restaurant. Just a short drive into the capital, Wellington. Truly a 5 Star experience!
Our 10th lodge on a month long trip happened to be the best experience we had. Not only were we welcome on a sunday, almost 2 hours before normal check in time, but warml so. Though Stella and Juergen had personal guests for lunch, they took the time to make suggestions for short hikes, things to see and places to go for dinner. And Juergen being a wine aficionado, we had some ber nice suggestions for our drinks. If downtown Wellington was a sort of traffic and noise nightmare, Edgewater was a dream. Peaceful, magnificient views, a more than lovely and comfy bedroom with a small terrace overlooking the ocean. What else ? All has already been said about the great breakfast they offer, expresso machine available, etc, etc. Value for money ? Unbeatable, as we've stayed at more expensive lodges that badly suffer from the comparaison. Thank you Stella and Juergen ! Yoi have mastered the art of welcoming guests.…
Excellent b&b in Karaka Bay. Attention to detail, fresh flowers in the room, lovely views, helpful hosts & the most delicious breakfast. We didn’t have a car, taxis in the area were rather hit & miss & the weather was dodgy, but we still enjoyed our stay very much.
