The location is very close to many tourist sights. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
It is a very crowded hostel with many guests staying for weeks/months while working in the city. I had a private room on the top floor called The Retreat. That was quieter and it was nice to have our own rooftop terrace for the six or so rooms in this section. I did not like that we did not have a bathroom on our floor. You have to go down a level and use one of the four private baths/showers shared by the two floors. Don't forgot to take your key where ever you go in the hostel. Each area automatically locks and you can't get back to your room without your key thob.
Bikes are available for rent although, not so much if you are a short person.

Location of the place was fantastic as it's right in the city so it's super convenient to walk if you don't drive.

I stayed in the shared twin room but no one else stayed there so I had the room to myself.

Locations of the electrical sockets in the room were in really strange locations. One was at the foot of the bunk bed and impossible to use unless you shifted the bed aside and the other was across the room. So that was really strange and inconvenient especially for the person sleeping on the top bunk.

The room had a private bathroom as well. It was alright however water kept splashing out from the shower and no bath mat was included in the room to dry our feets so I had to dry the floor myself everytime after showering to ensure I don't slip and fall the next time I enter the bathroom and also preventing wet carpets in the room with our wet feet.

The shared twin room came with coffee and tea amenities, body soap bar, shampoo and a towel. It also had a kettle for making coffee and tea so that was nice.

Hair dryers are not included in the room but it can be borrowed from the receptionist however, it has to be returned right after use.

There was a fan in the room as well but it looked really flimsy however, with the weather in Wellington, it's not needed at all as opening the window gives you a nice natural breeze.

Everyone there was really nice, friendly and helpful. I arrived really early and understood that it was too early to check in however, the moment my room was ready, it was given to me. Also do note that this is subjected to availability and you might not get a early check in every time.

Kitchen is available on every floors and it was really clean as well. There are some games available on the ground floor such as pool tables and board games that you can enjoy with your friends.

I would recommend this place to others because of the location however, I would need to consider due to the structure of the rooms...

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We appreciate all your feedback and have taken some on-board. Particularly with our en-suite twin rooms as we'd hate to risk someone slipping over because there were no bath mats! A health and safety report has been completed on this issue and we are working on providing foot-mats for rooms that come with en-suites. We're thrilled you were welcomed by friendly and helpful staff members as we take pride in our customer service. Safe travels, Tomo.

The hostel is situated smack in the middle of the city so everything you could ever need is within walking distance. Spent two nights here. No serious complaints. Extremely friendly staff who were very efficient and worked to make the experience good for us. Couldn't have asked for more.

I have stayed at Trek numerous times whilst passing through or living in Wellington, and honestly you won’t find a better hostel. I had stayed in quite a few others before I found Trek, and my only regret is that I hadn’t found Trek sooner! As a backpacker, the layout and overall vibe of the hostel is super friendly, welcoming and sociable. There are multiple communal spaces and kitchens for guests to use, all of a great size and well equipped. The facilities get cleaned numerous times daily, making the hostel easily the cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The staff are so lovely and really care about their guests, always going the extra mile. They threw parties for us occasionally (Halloween and Trek’s 6th birthday) which were so much fun, you could really see the time and effort the staff had put into them. They also organise weekly occasions such as free homemade soup, free sangria or mulled wine, free bbqs in the summer. Just small little touches that really show you are valued as a guest, which honestly is quite rare to find in hostels these days. I recommend this hostel to everyone and anyone, staying here is a must!

Stayed here a couple of nights. First time at a backpackers, selected this establishment as it was in town and walking distance from everything. The place was clean and tidy, patrons were also friendly. Staff were awesome. We had a private room but shared amenities, room had fresh clean sheets and pillows. The bunk beds are solid. I'm roughly 85kg and I was able to climb up and down without any problems.

The room we stayed in had a view of the carpark and a wall but it was fine and we were right next to the kitchen and bathroom. Bathroom and toilet are in the same room and there were two on the floor. You could hear the people in the kitchen but no biggie, its like being at home with the siblings.

I did not have enough time to explore rooms, but take the stairs .. the rooms are not that high up that you need a lift unless you have a ton of luggage. Stairs is a much quicker option to reaching your room. Also be careful of taxi drivers when travelling from the bus stop to the backpackers as we were charged $40 after that we used the uber service or walked everywhere. I'm geographically challenged and go down the wrong corridors a lot, this place only has two flights so you cannot go wrong. All the information you need is on each floor, on the bulletin board in the kitchen.

I'd definitely stay here again.

Every night people start making noise.all rooms have a small common kitchen and people start playing music for 6pm till 12 all way long if not music then speaking louder.i think receptionist is south american thats why she dont bother what south american guests doing. Forming group making late noise and disturbing others.

Note:- As a backpacker its not our responsibilty to go out and tell people to low or shut music.Management should have plan in place.if we have to complaint every night than its your failure not ours. Yes some things are allowed but not every single evening loud music. But seems eveyone want to party so doesnt matter you want to sleep or not. Highly not recommended.
Fyi they have a security guard who sleep downstair.why he cant do a round around in an hour and check.

Hi there :) thanks so much for the review! We are sorry to hear that you found it noisy, while we strictly enforce the noise curfew after 11pm it can sometimes be a little noisey before then, particularly on weekends. If at any point you find people being noisy after 11 you can call reception and we will send a security guard right away to deal with the problem, we have 24/7 security on site to make sure that the noise curfew is enforced. While we do have a south american receptionist I can assure you we provide no preferential treatment to guests from any nationality. If in future you have any issue with your accommodation situation please let us know at the time and we will do our best to fix it :) Kind regards, Sean

This is a great place to stay right in the heart of Wellington City CBD for tourists and backpackers. Rooms are lovely and at least 3 people can stay in one room.

Kitchen and toilet facilities are shared. The facility is very clean. Being right in the city CBD is it close to everything which is required. Parking is available at a fee, which was $28 when we stayed here.

We both really enjoyed our stay here, it was the perfect location for everything we wanted to do for the 2 weeks we were there. The beds were comfortable and the staff were friendly. It was just 15min walk to the train station, 1 min walk to the closest bus stop which was great going to and from the airport and getting around the city. Te papa and the waterfront were a 10min walk away. Good bathroom facilities. We would stay again.

Stayed 4 nights in the sanctuary (female only floor) and had a fantastic time!
The hostel is in an idyllic location to the city centre and transport routes.
The dorms are clean and comfortable and offer toiletries/towel upon arrival with a kitchen for every zone area.
Great common area with games, tv and library. The only negative was the friendliness and welcoming of a couple of the reception staff, who seemed like they would rather not be dealing with another guest and talking amongst themselves.

UNACCEPTABLE!!!
without getting to know anything I got charged 250$.
When I asked the reception they told it's their policy to charge if the fire alarm goes on.
I was frying something for dinner, I did accidentally make a bit of steam and the alarm went on.
after asking explanation they just ask me sorry for charging me without telling but anyway they just justify themselves saying that this is part of their policy.
TOTALLY RIDICULOUS!!!

Kia ora Alessandro, It is fair enough that you are upset about being charged a fee, as no one wants to have to pay $250 for a cooking error, but let me explain once more for clarification why it was charged. 1. Our fire alarms are industry standard and are serviced regularly. The kitchens are used by hundreds of guests weekly with out issue, however when you poured water on a hot frying pan, more than "a bit of steam" was created. Enough in fact that the fire alarm around the corner outside the bathrooms was activated, and our receptionist 20meters away heard the hiss of the pan. 2. False fire call outs cost money. It depends on the situation, but we are charged between $450 - $700 per call out by fire compliance services. As a business we decided to only charge a portion of this the guest responsible, though we could charge the full invoice, and the NZ fire department also has the right to charge $1,500 for negligence. 3. There is clear signage in every kitchen, directly in eyeline above the stovetop, of the fire alarm fee. The signage states the automatic fee in red bold lettering as $350, though we only charged you a portion of this as a gesture of goodwill. The fee is also stated on the In-House Rules sign framed in every room. I apologize that this was not explained to you on the night directly after the alarm, and our team member has since been informed that the correct procedure requires verbal communication prior to charging the fee. The communication was clear in the morning though, and we hope that you now understand the reason for the charge - that it is not a penalty, but a contribution to the fee we are required to pay for your error. I wish you the best for your travels in Aotearoa :) Nga mihi, Erin
