Detailed Reviews
Okay stay. The hotel is dated and although the rooms had been refurbished, the carpet was in dire need of cleaning and the provided banquette seating was horribly uncomfortable. The restaurant steak was good but very expensive at $42 for just a small piece of fillet and one small tomato. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. I really appreciated being able to check in early. It was great being able to access Lambton Quay via a lift but please clean the arcade area at the bottom of the lift (including the lift button) and the interior of the lift.

it was the first time I have stayed in this hotel, and the facilities were great. The 10th floor had lovely views out over the water, the exact rooms have free minibar including some nibbles which is very thoughtful, rooms well appointed, and the breakfast on offer had a great variety.Gary and others at reception made us feel welcome and the rooms were very clean. great idea the swivel shower glass door .

Novotel Wellington is ideally located for a stay in Wellington. Many attractions are within walking distance. We only went to the Botanic Garden with cable car, otherwise we ran everything. The rooms are modern and comfortable, the beds were very pleasant. Our room on 8. Floor was facing the mountains and not the sea, it was very quiet and the view perfectly fine. The rooms on the other side facing the sea certainly do not all have a direct or good sea view due to the high-rises in front of them. The staff are very pleasant and take great care of the guests. We had to check out relatively early as we went to Auckland with the Northern Explorer. The taking of breakfast was therefore not possible but we were given a breakfast. Breakfast is good overall by New Zealand standards. The elevator to the lower street is top and also facilitates the way to the hotel, you save yourself a steep climb including stairs, with and without luggage a profit.

Stayed for three nights as part of our five week tour of New Zealand. The room on the third floor was comfortable and quiet. Room service came on a daily basis to top up the basics and do the necessary tasks required of housekeeping. The lifts operated well within the hotel but it was slightly inconvenient that the lift down to Lambton Quay closed at 7:30pm.
The one disappointing aspect of the hotel was the lobby area and bar which was small and not furnished to a comfortable standard, hence we did not use that area, choosing instead to drink elsewhere.

Dear John, Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your tour of New Zealand and for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you had a comfortable and quiet three-night stay in your room on the third floor. It's great to know that our housekeeping team ensured that your room was well-taken-care-of during your stay, and that the lifts operated efficiently within the hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the early closure of the lift down to Lambton Quay at 7:30pm. Your feedback regarding the lobby area and bar is also noted, and we regret that it did not meet your expectations. We will take your comments into consideration as we strive to improve our facilities and services for our guests. We appreciate your valuable feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an improved experience in the future. Warm regards, Leigh Frame General Manager

We recently stayed at the Novotel Wellington and while there were some positives, we left feeling quite disappointed overall.
Starting with the good, the bed was very comfortable, and the room temperature was perfect for sleeping. The location was also convenient, especially with the lift access to Lambton Quay.
However, there were several areas where the hotel fell short. The lifts didn't require a key card to operate, which made the floors feel less secure. To make things worse, our friends were told the hotel had lost the master keys for the safes, so they were completely out of operation.
We dined in the hotel restaurant on the first night and found the prices outrageous considering the quality of food and service. $45 for a steak or duck breast with no sides, and $14 each for chips or greens. The pasta we ordered lacked flavor and was downright unpleasant. Even with Parmesan, it was inedible. On top of that, both entrees and mains were served together, suggesting that the staff might have been inexperienced.
Breakfast was passable, though the juice dispensers were left almost empty, and the sight of dead flowers on the tables only added to the overall sense of neglect.
The hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment, as well as improvements in both security and the quality of the food and beverage offerings. I expected much more from a Novotel, and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the brand’s usual standard.

having just stayed 16days I look forward to returning soon. The staff were all so polite and accomodating nothing seemed to be a problem. I made sure I sampled their breakfast, lunch and dinner including happy hour and was pleasantly surprised with the Russian mule cocktail. The rooms were tastefully decorated except I must admit I am not a fan of the curtains but they Smelt clean and looked clean. The location was perfect I spent as much time wandering between parliament, botanic gardens, museum including Te papa and where I could not walk I took a elevator down to lambton quay and hopped aboard. Also having other cafes, restaurants so close meant so much variety. All the staff cleaners, cook, restaurant staff , front of house coordinators really were a pleasure to deal with.

I have been staying at Novotel Wellington since June 2019, all on business trips.
This August 2022 I decided to cease staying at this hotel because I felt unappreciated and taken for granted. My room had a broken safebox and nothing was done to change that for the 5 nights I was there. I had to call to ask for a fork so i could eat the fruits served as a platinum Accor loyal member.
In August one of the lift was playing up for the 2 weeks i was there and this created long waits for the guest. Despite informing the hotel staff, nothing was done. No message or even a staff to allow guest to use the other lift esp. when it was busy.
One Friday I was asked by the hotel staff my room number while i had bfast with other hotel guest around, and mind you it's my 10th time at the restaurant for breakfast. Prior to sitting down I informed the staff my room number yet I was approached by another staff to ask my room number. I was very insulted. That afternoon ard 1:30pm with my packed lunch in hand, I went to my room after my business meeting only to find I could not open my room door. I went to reception and saw the same staff who extended my room card that morning and informed him it wasnt working. He said sorry and did something from his end and then said it shld work now. I went up to the 10th floor after waiting for some time for the stupid lift to work properly as it wasnt registering the 10th floor for some reason, only to find I still could not open my room door. Again a mere sorry and this time the manager came up to with me. He opened my room door with his card and turned to leave. I asked him 'did you expect me to pack and eat my lunch in the dark'? He panicked and quickly dashed off and came back to pass me a key card so i could get the power going in my room.
I dont understand why people who are NOT passionate about giving a good experience are placed at the front desk. I was totally disgusted and swear never to step foot as i felt marginalized and taken for granted because I stayed at the hotel too often. Its ironic as you would think that guest like me would get good service.
This is my story and I will never recommend this hotel to anyone.
Oh yes another thing, the mattress is saggy and I do get back aches from it. It dips in when the body is on it. Its very obvious and nothing is done for the past 3 years (minus covid periods) i stayed there.

Responded 1 Sept 2022
Dear @PreetPangu Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Novotel Wellington. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. I understand the frustrations of your key card not working twice however the way you dealt with my team members was unacceptable. Being frustrated does not condone swearing at the staff and as CCTV shows, you throwing the key cards at the staff members. My team member may have been panicked because he was unsure of how you would react when he did not have an extra key with him. I do also appreciate your comment on the comfort of the bed. The beds were replaced earlier this year and also chosen for the properties of our brand are of high quality; however, I understand the choice of bed is a very individual one and therefore the feeling of comfort and bed preferences vary largely between individuals. In order to cater to most of our guests needs, we do have adjustment methods in place to either harden or soften the beds in the rooms. We appreciate your sharing your concerns. Sincerely, Blair Morten Front Office Manager

A great location and should be a great hotel, has been in the past. Had a horrendous experience when we checked in and pir room and our friends room cooling systems were broken. Took over 6 hours, many poor and rude interactions from the female on the front desk and a room diff to our booking. As a plat member bringing 2 extra couples for a new years getaway we were treated poorly and were left extremely disappointed. Probably won’t return

I have stayed here a few years ago and loved it but unfortunately this time it was just plain hard work.
I booked and paid for 4 adults in an executive room for a girls weekend to WOW. Both days I was ringing reception as the room was not properly stocked for 4 people, only x2 towels, x2 cups. The executive room comes with a free stocked mini bar except IT DIDN'T and had to phone everyday more than once to get this. The toilet paper ran out - no refils, the hand soap dispenser was empty and not filled. The excuse at first was staff had called in sick so short staffed and we are sorry but then same again the next day. In the end I gave up asking and I honestly think that is their game plan, make it too hard to get what you paid for and you will give up and they will save money.
Breakfast was good and location is excellent especially is it is walking distance to the TSB arena so the dishonest cost cutting measures have let them down.

No utensils for those who choose not to eat the the resturant, no bowls, had to make my sons breakfast in a mug the only source of utensils provided, our room didnt get cleaned on our stay! Definately not worth the $800 that we paid which was advertised for $580 online to get told the deposit we paid doesn’t go to them so we had to pay another deposit on arrival. Not suitable for toddlers will definitely not be returning the beds we’re definitely not worth the price of our stay :(

Hi Jamie,
As stated above, we do have 24 hour reception. Should you be arriving by car, please feel free to park out in front of the hotel in the loading bay and check in at the front desk.

No unfortunately.
Valet parking is $30 a night self parking at $20 a night. We used valet parking and ended up with a scratch. Parking is a real issue even when you're checking out.
