Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

QT Wellington garners mixed reviews, with its prime location being a high point for guests, who enjoy the easy access to the waterfront and cultural attractions. Although the hotel's artistic atmosphere is admired by many, some find the decor lacking. Comfortable beds are a plus, yet rooms are often described as dated and not always well-maintained. Service at QT Wellington is a point of contention; while friendly at times, it can also be slow and inconsistent.
Guests have expressed concerns about the value, pointing out high prices and unanticipated charges. Amenities, too, receive variable feedback, with some appreciating the offerings but others frustrated by issues with housekeeping and room service. Cleanliness is another area where guest experiences vary, ranging from spotless to needing attention.

Last stop in tour of N Island before moving on to S Island. This hotel is very impressive with many pieces of interesting art work adorning the walls and floors in the public areas. We were booked into an Executive King Studio. This was extremely spacious with quality furnishings, a fully equipped kitchen including washer/dryer machine. It’s location is opposite the wonderful Te Papa national museum and within walking distance of the Cable Car up to the Space Place and The Botanic Gardens. Looking at the artwork alone was a really pleasurable pastime. Car parking was available through a valet service at NZ$40/day which on first sight might see a little bit pricey, but we noticed that the 24 hour rate at the Te Papa car park over the road was also $40 so not the case after all and the guys would bring the car o we within 5 minutes of making a request. The hotel has its own restaurant on the 3rd floor, but that was extremely expensive in comparison to some excellent restaurant in the immediate vicinity.
We departed relatively early to get the interisland ferry to Picton and the hotel organised a taxi service to take us at a fixed rate of $22.
Great hotel in a great location for a short stay in Wellington.

The reception staff helped us make the most of our two days in Wellington. This was the last stop on our honeymoon, and we weren't expecting much. A lot of people told us not to bother with the capital because there wasn't much to offer. To those people, I say, "Talk to the staff at QT." We got so many great recommendations that we both wish we had stayed longer. We had exceptional food, got to see some interesting exhibits at the Te Papa across the street, and we were a very short walk from multiple beer gardens.
The hotel itself was a perfect last stop. The apartment style rooms had a washer and cooking facilities which were extremely helpful in prepping us for the return journey to the States. The deep tub didn't hurt either. The staff told us about all sorts of amenities that we didn't get a chance to enjoy, but honestly, the room had just about everything we needed.
We had breakfast at the Hippopotamus the next morning, and the buffet was stuffed. They had a little yogurt bar with plenty of options, eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms...I could talk about the food for a while, it was that good.
Plus, it's got a ton of funky artwork. It gave us something to do while we were waiting for our ride back to the airport.
Loved the hotel, and we would definitely stay there again.

The good bits.. The hotel is well located, the staff were great and the communal areas were lovely. We had breakfast included in our rate which was nice and was replenished regularly as items ran down. The only down side was that the sun is very bright in the breakfast room and makes it hard to see.
Our room was on the 4th floor and aside from sirens, which can’t be helped, there was minimal noise and the room was pleasantly warm.
The not so great bits… We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment which was roomy but for the money you are paying per night was not quite to the standard you would expect. The bathroom was disproportionately small and aside from a heated towel rail next to the toilet there was nowhere to hang towels after you had used them, a rail would be great.
There was not enough seating for the 4 of us to comfortably relax in the lounge area. A chaise-Lounge, a narrow bench and a hard metal chair meant that we couldn’t even really sit together on an evening as it wasn’t comfortable. Maybe a sofa and an armchair would be a better choice.. we did ask if there was a spare armchair anywhere, but no one got back to us.
The dishwasher drawer kept jamming which was annoying and meant that it did not always open. The apartment in general just looked a little tired, I expected more for the money you pay really.
The pool/spa/sauna were ok, but the temperature in the spa seemed to vary significantly. One evening it was very cold and one evening it was so hot it was uncomfortable to sit in. On two occasions there were no towels, though there were many used ones on the floor, we did ring down to ask for some but none appeared.
Overall the hotel is nice enough, though we visited a number of years ago and I remember it being of a higher standard then. Generally the things that were not so great were little problems, but they add up and dampen the overall experience. I had been wanting to stay at the hotel again for a long time, but sadly I will not hurry back and would choose another option next time we are in Wellington.

I had booked an executive two bed apartment for one night (16/10) directly via the hotel website, I was picking up a family member who was convalescing after recent surgery and this was a treat for us both! When we went to check in on a Friday afternoon at approximately 3.30pm we were told that our room wasn’t available and was yet to be cleaned and this would take approximately 45 mins. I enquired at this point whether we had a bath in the room and a TV in each of the bedrooms. I was informed yes to both questions; we were then directed to the lobby bar with our one free drink ticket to wait……while we waited we utilised the lobby floor toilets, now once upon a time you would gasp in delight at the luxurious surrounds and forget that this was the toilet! How disappointed were we, it was tired, there were no hand towels, the toilets were smelly and the soap dispenser was filthy! Certainly something you do not want to see with the current Covid 19 pandemic. The staff member at the concierge desk was informed but half an hour later there were still no hand towels …. We were beginning to regret the $458 we had just paid for girl’s night away. What was also apparent was that all frontline staff on that particular afternoon were dressed in different attire and looked unprofessional.
We ordered another drink and as we waited for our cocktail to arrive (with no straws as they had run out) we noticed a number of guests ‘waiting’ for their room, no worries we were enjoying catching up as it had been sometime. We noticed guests were slowly starting to move off to their rooms! Great we thought, surely someone would come over and assure us the status of our room occupancy and we would be seen to. It is unfortunate that this expression of fine hospitality was not provided to us, I had to go and ask almost two hours after first checking in at this point I was ready to ask for a refund and check into another hotel. Our bags sat at the concierge desk for the entire time and we ended up carrying our own bags up to our room (Apartment 317).
We were really hoping that the room would just take our breath away and all would be forgotten! The room was clean but it did not have a bath nor a TV in each room like we had been told at reception. The furnishings were nothing spectacular or luxurious in fact the dining table did not ‘look right in the room’ there was paint peeling in the bathroom and the blinds had missing slats which made the room look sloppy and tired. I was quite disappointed, however we were tired and ready to settle in and rest while we waited for friends to arrive. I certainly don't feel that the charge is worthy of the room we were provided.
I can recommend Hot Sauce for cocktails, the staff at the restaurant/bar were attentive and we were well looked after. We did not have an evening meal so can’t comment on that particular menu. Breakfast was included in our room rate of which we had delivered to our room at an extra charge. Breakfast was fine. Check out was not an issue and we were offered a discount for our troubles.
Can I add that I am not one to write these types of reviews but I really do think that management needs to know that the once high standards for which this particular hotel was renowned for has slipped. Very disappointing.

What an amazing hotel this is!
After a very long day travelling across from South Island we arrived in the early evening to be ‘wowed’ by the reception. Thankfully, our hire car was parked for us and we knew there was a charge for this but at least we didn’t have to use it again until we left which is helpful in a large city.
The art in the reception and bar areas is wonderful to look at. My husband ordered a burger as we were late and he had a very long wait indeed and it wasn’t really worth it either. However, they did give us a free drink to make up for it. A lady next to us was also underwhelmed with her fish and chips. We didn’t have breakfast so I can’t comment on it.
Our room was an executive king studio and was very nice and well equipped. We had a huge bath which we didn’t try as we decided it may well be extremely difficult to get out of and there was very little room to manoeuvre but the walk in shower was fine.
The room was very well equipped with washer dryer (very difficult to work and had to get Sam up twice from reception to help me out!), small oven, fridge freezer and microwave.
Reception and bar staff lovely.
Fabulous Sunday market was on next to the harbour and we had a lovely pancake breakfast from one of the stalls but the highlight was the Te Papa museum just down from the hotel. Truly amazing place especially the earthquake section and the Gallipoli Exhibition.
From there we took the cable car which was a bit difficult to find and had lovely views.
So what I thought of as a stopover from South to North Island turned out to be a lovely stay - Wellington is a lovely city and the QT is a lovely hotel
PS the brewery across the road is superb!

The hotel is well situated and not cheap. Breakfast buffet was healthy, inventive and delicious. Reception desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
However, it needs to update in several important respects. The first is its lack of "green" focus. On entering the room it was frigid (thermostat set at the very bottom) despite being a chilly day in Wellington. Altering the temperature was very hard to work out, and there was no way to change the fan setting. All the lights were on too. VERY wasteful in terms of emissions, not necessary, and uncomfortable to boot. Come on, this is 2020 and we have a climate crisis: hotels can do better!
The bed was so soft I couldn't sleep on my stomach without getting a "swayback". Duvet was synthetic and I doubt the sheets were cotton. All okay for a cheap place, but this isn't.
There was no bedside reading lamp apart from a dim hanging light that wasn't close enough to the bed, so had to use all the single-button ceiling lights to read in bed.
Phone was so old that the zero button to call the desk needed about 5 efforts to actually work (on 2 occasions). A small point but in an emergency it would matter.
I was told that there was no shuttle but they could order a taxi to the airport. I asked how much that would cost: "about $30". When I asked for a taxi to the airport at a certain hour, it turned out to be some kind of corporate cab with much higher rates - $45 to the airport.
The overall lasting impression was of a greedy owner in a place that could be very nice indeed.

Dear Martha M, Thank you for sharing your experiences at QT Gold Coast. Obviously I am disappointed to read that your stay wasn’t up to your expectation. It is never our intention for a guest to leave disappointed for any reason and for that I apologize. I can assure you there is no greedy owner here. I truly appreciate your honest feedback relating to going "green" which is something we are all about, you may have noticed the larger pump packs for our bathroom amenities and we are in the process of changing over all in room and property lights to LED's in an effort to reduce wastage and promote a greener space. Please be assured that I will share all of your feedback with the team to ensure we can amend what we can in the short term. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Again, I apologize you did not have a perfect stay & we hope you return again on your next visit to the best city in New Zealand. Warm regards, Ian Charlton Hotel Manager

Spectacular hotel, very different, like living in an art gallery. Ideally located on the harbour, but a number of niggles. Bath had no plug, called reception, did not get a plug. Bathroom not shiney clean. Buffet breakfast only warm, so bacon was slimey, and buffet location was cramped. Toilets beside restaurant had no towels. For the price we felt a little short-changed.

We stayed here for three nights taking advantage of a special price offer and were generally very impressed.
We arrived ahead of check-in time, but the great reception staff gave us a coffee as we waited for twenty minutes. The art decor was fabulous and this reviewer thoroughly enjoyed this aspect of the hotel.
Great room. Very comfortable bed. Great bath and shower.
We felt aspects of the housekeeping were below standard. The bathroom floor was not properly cleaned and the bathroom supplies missed being replaced one night. On one occasion we were resting in our serviced room in the afternoon when housekeeping knocked and asked if we wanted the room serviced!
Our biggest issue was the dirty linen hamper that was left in the hallway both day and night throughout our stay, along with a vacuum cleaner and mop. Why were these items not put away?

It’s been interesting to see all that various reviews in hindsight and to try to get a balance myself. Agree that all the concierge and reception team are terrific and responsive.
The location by the waterfront helped open my eyes up to a different side of Wellington after staying more in the centre area. For example, Sunday was market day across the road which was terrific. I also was introduced to the red Uber electric scooters and easily did over 100 km exploring the city (just a note, park in designated spots or Uber does charge a $15 ‘fine’ even though it says it ‘might’).
QT is across from Te Papa museum which is lovely and free.
My room was clean and modern, no issues like other people wrote about cleanliness.
Downsides are first floor rooms look directly into gym! There are opaque curtains that do help give privacy and light but it’s a bit disconcerting and curtains do need to be closed for full privacy, especially as it starts to get dark. The aircon system is old, and I did not use the cold mode as I could sense I was reacting to it. So I used the dehumidifier mode which kept things a bit cooler and it was intermittent and less noisy as a result. My main beef was the wifi which was truly hopeless and did interfere with my ability to work. The telco network and hotspotting is a much better option but added cost. I should mention that wifi around Wellington seemed to be generally useless but QT was particularly not great.
The lap pool and spa and gym was great.
Shower was ok , spacious and I didn’t have too much of a concern about water being around, although I’m sure there will be more hotel washing due to the extra mop up towels required.
Hotel aesthetics were very nice as mentioned in previous reviews.

Love this hotels vibrancy and colour. Rooms are modern and elegant with good functionality .Clean and fresh .
AS others have commented I do find the noise of guests in hallways can be irritating but I accept that the hotel can only manage some of that and it is the responsibility of guests to be respectful of others. Concierge and reception staff are helpful as is bar. We were disappointed that Hippopotomus ( fine dining restaurant) was closed for a refurb on this visit and look forward to this being open again soon. We didn't try the other Hotel restaurant and ate out with the many options on offer within walking distance . There is a grocery store a block away for those whose room includes a kitchen and i find this hotel brilliant for its location as well. The airport bus stops almost outside on Wakelin street if you need that and Valet parking is $40 per day. A room with a view is recommended as the harbour can be stunning and the evening lights across the bay a lovely scene to come to .I would have liked to have had branded capsules for the Nespresso machine though the no brand option was drinkable . Definitely my choice when staying in Wellington though just great location so you miss the one way labyrinth that defines the central city and close to Museums and waterfront .

Cannot be sure but our room overlooked another high rise which had the restaurant situated...so no seaview. We had a grab One special with the room rate at $250 a nite which included breakfast for 2 plus a free drink each (my wife does not drink) so I did not want to waste the offer!
I do not know if they offer this facility. Please contact this hotel directly. Best wishes.
Believe so, I’ve never used it though. The hotel is split into two sections, the old Museum Hotel which was moved across the road when Te Papa was built, and the original serviced apartments built separately. These two buildings are now joined. The rooms are not that different, some are apartment style, some are hotel style.
They’re all well appointed. The biggest difference is that the apartment rooms have cooking and washing facilities. As for the pool, the room keys are limited per floor, so it’s plausible that some are not accessible to the pool.
Hi Pam
We drove up to the front of the hotel directly next to the concierge. There is a little driveway off the main road that will lead you there. We gave the keys to the them to park it for us. Enjoy your stay. The hotel and staff are amazing.
